Maam and Sir are use to address people with respect regardless of status or profession that was what been taught to us in college and commonly use during the old english times but i guess we are in a different era where we are more open on gender neutrality.

@@dorainfinland8067 in canada and australia, we call strangers, mate or friend, because calling someone with this to non royals is considered offensive, in UK address of sir and maam are only allowed for royal officials and banned the use of it to commoners

filipinos uses sir and maam a lot they call everyone using that which is not good for them they are destroying it's real meaning

The correct term for filipinos to address everyone with respect is "Ginoo" and "Binibini"
