Excellent explanation. I was in tears first time watching this after I just finished watching Xceleste BTS hardships. I was a new army last January so I wasn't familiar with their music videos yet.
Actually, the part after the whale came up is not from MAMA 2018 but from the WINGS Tour Final (which was in 2017). The here depicted scene is when they cried during their ending speech of their last concert of the WINGS Tour. (There are official DVDs of the concert and the behinds of the tour btw.) Anyways NJ, this MV is not just a video Armys can just watch without thinking or without looking at little details. Like how do Armys know which MV or situtation a particular scene (of this animation) is from? And how do we exactly know which member it is? Let me point out some aspects for you NJ: 1. THE BACKGROUNDS AND ITS ELEMENTS: examples: - The first scene shows their old practice room (which you saw in the Danger Dance practice). - The next scene shows a yellow bus in an alley (which you saw in the No More Dream MV). - The checkered floor is from their We Are Bulletproof Pt.2 MV (which you also did a reaction video to). and so on 2. THE CLOTHES AND HAIRSTYLES: examples: - The first scene shows RM (Namjoon) from the Boy With Luv era (blond styled up hair and pink clothes) representing the him of today while looking at his past self (black clothes with white letters/numbers etc and black afro-hawk hairstyle from No More Dream and We Are Bulletproof Pt.2 era in their debut year 2013). - The scene where the person has pink hair and wears something like a blue uniform with white stripes at its shoulder area is Suga (Yoongi) and he/his clothes represents the I Need U era. The clothes are not actually from the I Need U MV but are clothes he wore on stage for a performance on the 30th of April in 2015. and so on 3. THE STUFF THAT HAPPENS TO THEM IN THE ANIMATION basically represents (some of) their hardships: examples: - The black wave that swallows up a person (Jungkook) represents the so called "black ocean" which happened to BTS at the MMAs 2016 and the GDAs 2016. Black ocean means that the audience (basically fans of other singers/bands/etc) turned off their lightsticks to show that they do not support BTS and to discourage/disrespect them. - The sharp shards thrown at them probably represent the hate that people threw and throw at them. - The scene where a person (RM (Namjoon)) is deep drowning while the shards follow him in the water also represents hardships that took them down. and so on BUT this MV is not about their hardships itself but about Armys helping them overcoming all their hardships by supporting them, loving them, going through all their hardships with them and runnning together with them towards a bright future. They were 7 against everyone but they have us Armys now. BTS shows us in this song and MV in particular that they know we Armys were, are and will always be beside them throughout their journey (and beyond). Just to point out a central detail which implies that we helped them up: when RM (Namjoon) was drowning there were "bubbles" bringing him back to the water surface. These bubbles were not actually bubbles but little purple hearts. (Purple is our (BTS´s and Armys´s) colour btw.) After this scene the mood of the MV gets brighter and they keep running forward knowing that we got their backs and with that they overcome everything smoothly without any big trouble. Also, the whale is not just any whale but the 52-Hertz Whale which is known as "the loneliest whale in the world" because no other whale communicates on the same frequency as the 52-Hertz Whale. Therefore, the whale here represents them who were lonely at first but have us Armys now who heard them and understand them. To NJ and everyone who did not know that and did not know why this MV and song holds an important spot in Armys hearts I hope I could help you understand the MV, the song and the loving one-of-a-kind bond between BTS and Armys a bit better although I could not point out and explain everything because it would have been too much to write down. 💜 (I recommend to watch videos that put the scenes of the animated MV next to the corresponding MV scene or situation so you can see the little details for yourself. Props to the animators for including such details like Jin (Seokjin) giving Suga (Yoongi) a tissue to wipe his tears (that really happened during their last concert of the WINGS Tour Final).)

This was their song to ARMY and showcases scenes from their past MV’s, right down to the same clothes. Every time I see this or hear this song, I cry. For them to say that before ARMY, they were just seven and now with ARMY, they have it all just shows how important they feel we are to them. It makes me proud to have been ARMY since 2013. I am 60 years old and I can’t remember when these amazingly talented young men were not a part of my life. I am thankful to them every single day.
I learned about BTS when my youngest daughter (same age as Jin, including birth month) became a GOT7 fan with her bias being Jackson Wang. I became an avid Army over a year ago after seeing their carpool karaoke with James Corden. I admire them for their courage in overcoming all the odds stacked against them, their being gracious and humble, all while displaying their own individual and unique talents. I don't believe there'll ever be another global superstar power like BTS who attracts EVERYONE. Borahae 💜
My daughter also introduced me to BTS. She is younger than Jungkook, but she was searching for a different type of music. Something with meaning. She found BTS and they gave her the will to persevere through life's trials as a teenager. I will always be grateful to these talented and beautiful young men. 💜

Since you have yet to see the so many MV's the various clips are showing in chronicle order from earliest til recent along with the animated characters representing each member along with their hair color changes throughout the yrs, you won't quite recognize all the so artistically amazing animated versions of the actual MV's they represent! It just makes one more emotional being aware of each MV and the time period they were in! But even without knowing, the song is so beautiful, so emotional, and heartfelt, it will still so easily effect the listener!! The song was on the Map Of The Soul: 7 (MOTS:7) album that also had ON on it, Black Swan, each members so awesome solo song! It is such a masterpiece of an album and the tour that was supposed to happen for it would have been equally beyond spectacular! I still wish with all my heart that BTS will still do the live concert in stadiums from all these songs like was intended before the pandemic hit right after their comeback and being in the US to showcase their comeback song ON! They stayed in US for quite awhile making appearances in award shows and crating some of their ever so awesome MV's as well as produced a few of their songs in the US back then! But then returned to South Korea expecting to come back for the tour right after! But so devestatingly sad it never happened, because of covid:19. It would have been so awesome for BTS to sing this song live as well as the rest of the equally so awesome songs on MOTS:7! Hopefully it will still happen!!

All the scenes are just something that every Army's treasures a lot. The song itself speaks for BTS story. It really hits your heart if you know BTS very well. I mean, their story from the start up until now. You'll know how it feels, and how it hits really hard. Army was there through the screen and it was the first time in 8 months that they were able to see army, even if it was through the screen. It was an emotional concert. In this MV they tell their story about their journey and all the went through until now. From their first song No More Dream until now. You can see the different sites of different songs that they have sang from their start until now. They are saying that they were 7 but not any more cus we have you meaning that now they have army so now they are 8. They are also tell the story of the pain, tears, and dealing with their haters and how they handled all that and still stay humble. They got back at their haters through their songs. And RM told them " I will show them" and he did show them how great and amazing they all are.

This song is so special to both BTS and ARMY. Hits me in the feels every.single.time. Like many others I cried the first time I heard it. Still get a lump even now but thankfully no more tears.
I see many comments about how their MVs are referenced in this video, so I won't comment on that. However, there are other events that are also referenced in here. They released this video last year during Festa, the annual celebration of their debut. We're having Festa right now, actually. Yesterday, they released their handwritten sheets about themselves, each other, and ARMY. When Suga's character first appears, he's holding his left shoulder, which was injured before debut. He only got it operated on last year. He's been in pain all this time. BTS actually had to deal with a black ocean once, early in their careers. J-Hope being boxed in. RM sinking and drowning until the lights of ARMY showed up and gave him the strength to fight. After the whale leaves them on the stage, they stand in a circle, facing the audience. That's from the performance of their song, Born Singer. When they stand in a row, all of them crying, that's from the acceptance speech for the award they won at MAMA 2018, I think. When they admitted that they'd almost disbanded and, yes, they all cried as they talked about it. There is a real whale out in the oceans, nicknamed the loneliest whale in the world, because it sings at a much higher frequency than the other whales and it's the only one to do so. The lyrics in the song, Whalien 52, talk about how he's both a whale and an alien, so Whalien, and how he'll keep singing even if no one responds. The whale in the animation represents ARMY, who hear and respond to BTS. We lift them up and carry them to the heights. With so much symbolism and so many references to the things that they've been through, that ARMY has gotten them through, damn near every ARMY in the world cried the first time we saw this video. Honestly, it's my favorite song off of the Map of the Soul: 7 album, closely followed by Louder Than Bombs. They show their love and respect for ARMY all the time and we love them all the more for it.

I've been an ARMY since before they debuted in 2013 (after 6 years of stanning them in 2019, I finally got an autograph from one of the members haha!). I cried when this song came out and then even more when they sang it in their concert. It's so nostalgic and hopeful.

BUT
this MV is not about their hardships itself but about Armys helping them overcoming all their hardships by supporting them, loving them, going through all their hardships with them and runnning together with them towards a bright future. They were 7 against everyone but they have us Armys now. BTS shows us in this song and MV in particular that they know we Armys were, are and will always be beside them throughout their journey (and beyond).
Just to point out a central detail which implies that we helped them up: when RM (Namjoon) was drowning there were "bubbles" bringing him back to the water surface. These bubbles were not actually bubbles but little purple hearts. (Purple is our (BTS´s and Armys´s) colour btw.) After this scene the mood of the MV gets brighter and they keep running forward knowing that we got their backs and with that they overcome everything smoothly without any big trouble.
Also, the whale is not just any whale but the 52-Hertz Whale which is known as "the loneliest whale in the world" because no other whale communicates on the same frequency as the 52-Hertz Whale. Therefore, the whale here represents them who were lonely at first but have us Armys now who heard them and understand them.
To NJ and everyone who did not know that and did not know why this MV and song holds an important spot in Armys hearts I hope I could help you understand the MV, the song and the loving one-of-a-kind bond between BTS and Armys a bit better although I could not point out and explain everything because it would have been too much to write down. 💜
(I recommend to watch videos that put the scenes of the animated MV next to the corresponding MV scene or situation so you can see the little details for yourself. I became an avid Army over a year ago after seeing their carpool karaoke with James Corden. I admire them for their courage in overcoming all the odds stacked against them, their being gracious and humble, all while displaying their own individual and unique talents. Since you have yet to see the so many MV's the various clips are showing in chronicle order from earliest til recent along with the animated characters representing each member along with their hair color changes throughout the yrs, you won't quite recognize all the so artistically amazing animated versions of the actual MV's they represent!
It just makes one more emotional being aware of each MV and the time period they were in! But even without knowing, the song is so beautiful, so emotional, and heartfelt, it will still so easily effect the listener!!
The song was on the Map Of The Soul: 7 (MOTS:7) album that also had ON on it, Black Swan, each members so awesome solo song! It is such a masterpiece of an album and the tour that was supposed to happen for it would have been equally beyond spectacular!
I still wish with all my heart that BTS will still do the live concert in stadiums from all these songs like was intended before the pandemic hit right after their comeback and being in the US to showcase their comeback song ON!
They stayed in US for quite awhile making appearances in award shows and crating some of their ever so awesome MV's as well as produced a few of their songs in the US back then! But then returned to South Korea expecting to come back for the tour right after! But so devestatingly sad it never happened, because of covid:19. Army was there through the screen and it was the first time in 8 months that they were able to see army, even if it was through the screen. It was an emotional concert. In this MV they tell their story about their journey and all the went through until now. From their first song No More Dream until now. You can see the different sites of different songs that they have sang from their start until now. They are saying that they were 7 but not any more cus we have you meaning that now they have army so now they are 8. They are also tell the story of the pain, tears, and dealing with their haters and how they handled all that and still stay humble. They got back at their haters through their songs. And RM told them " I will show them" and he did show them how great and amazing they all are.

This song is so special to both BTS and ARMY. Hits me in the feels every.single.time. Like many others I cried the first time I heard it. Still get a lump even now but thankfully no more tears.
I see many comments about how their MVs are referenced in this video, so I won't comment on that. However, there are other events that are also referenced in here. They released this video last year during Festa, the annual celebration of their debut. We're having Festa right now, actually. Yesterday, they released their handwritten sheets about themselves, each other, and ARMY. When Suga's character first appears, he's holding his left shoulder, which was injured before debut. He only got it operated on last year. He's been in pain all this time. BTS actually had to deal with a black ocean once, early in their careers. J-Hope being boxed in. RM sinking and drowning until the lights of ARMY showed up and gave him the strength to fight. After the whale leaves them on the stage, they stand in a circle, facing the audience. That's from the performance of their song, Born Singer. When they stand in a row, all of them crying, that's from the acceptance speech for the award they won at MAMA 2018, I think. When they admitted that they'd almost disbanded and, yes, they all cried as they talked about it. There is a real whale out in the oceans, nicknamed the loneliest whale in the world, because it sings at a much higher frequency than the other whales and it's the only one to do so. The lyrics in the song, Whalien 52, talk about how he's both a whale and an alien, so Whalien, and how he'll keep singing even if no one responds. The whale in the animation represents ARMY, who hear and respond to BTS. We lift them up and carry them to the heights. With so much symbolism and so many references to the things that they've been through, that ARMY has gotten them through, damn near every ARMY in the world cried the first time we saw this video. Honestly, it's my favorite song off of the Map of the Soul: 7 album, closely followed by Louder Than Bombs. They show their love and respect for ARMY all the time and we love them all the more for it.
