Did you know Clapham is the inspiration behind several Disney films? You didn't, because that's not true. Learn what is true about Clapham* as Andrew takes in the Old Town, the intergalactically famous Infernos nightclub and the local Sainsburys. We talk about William Wilberforce freeing the slaves from his Clapham pad, how the Windrush generation started at Clapham South and why they wouldn't have ended up there had we had the money to build Crossrail in 1950.
*except the bit about the bars and restaurants I just made that up

Thanks to Underground History (underground-his...) for their excellent website
I had family living in Stonehouse St. Years ago. My family used to walk up from Brixton to there. I remember the old pool or that big concrete thing in the common. Streatham I had relations living there too one stage. Woolworths in Clapham was around the corner from Stonehouse St where my grandfather walked all twelve of us then to get sweets every Saturday morning in the early to mid eightes. Then have a few drinks in the Windsor pub that used to be there.
Memories.....
Well done on the offer from Londonist, I see a great future ahead for you
This is a very interesting video, you took a lot of videos to be able to make one! love every part of Clapham video- the history plus humour in one! Your wits is incomparable. One day, I'll be able to explore it, too! BUT no ads!
Very engaging - Love the historical integration with the occasional 'sardonic touch'! Ironic that the home town of the abolitionist, William Wilberforce ,should be the very town to offer accommodation to the descents of Britain's Caribbean slavery system, in bringing their skills and services in support of making 'The Mother Land', great again! Well done!
5:18 "in fact, there's a Northern Line train going through right now ..." lol
Thank you
No problem
We used to live in Macaulay road, three families in one Victorian house was normal, and shared one bathroom.
We couldn't afford it now.
I just love your sarcastic style. Although there must be a lot of cultural references I miss.
I love that you're obsessed with Roman roads too! I thought it was just me!
I just think it's so cool, roads that you can see driving in straight lines across half the country, built MILLENNIA ago, and we still use them.
I agree with Lubos...I really like and look forward to these videos.
I lived there... Have now moved... You were a stones throw away from my flat.
Did you know Clapham and Battersea used to chop down each others trees?
Edit: and they used the common for grazing livestock.
the common is for grazing livestock, everywhere in UK
William having an eat pray love moment is a movie waiting to happen.
Thank you that was very interesting
Just finished watching all your videos, they’re brilliant! Think Blackheath could make a good exploring video...
It's like a walk with a friend rather than boring sightseeing. Cool
I think the shelters are below not along side the Northern Line tunnels.
chadjj Ugh... I think you might be right...
5:19 is one of several moments that were too funny to only watch once.
I think you are a fine example of a great north-western European chap.
Excellent work
Ha ha, I lived on Macauley Road, my pro-Wrester dad bought the first home on the block called Lynwood House, no number but that's common in the UK, We luckily escaped and moved to Montreal, my dads home Lol
Lol I lived on the west side of the Common and now live in Montreal, too!
Me and my sister used to live in Macaulay road, and used to know a little boy called Tony, whose father was a boxing or wrestling referee.
He lived on the corner of Lilleshall road and had an older sister.
She used to take us all swimming in
Clapham Manor baths, and we played in your garden !
Glad you're enjoying Canada. Best wishes.
We played in your garden when we were children.
You had an older sister who sometimes took us both swimming at Clapham Manor baths.
Glad you like Canada. All the best from London.
