The movement jukes and understanding the gamepace makes it looks like this Im nowhere good as sir repoze at playing rogue so i just sit on slayer fighter so i can do something when i making mistakes)
I think it all comes down to solos. You can use the non-replenishable abilities because the fights aren't as long and it's easy to leave when you don't have to worry about anyone else Also he's just built different

Smoke bomb shoudl probably just be reverted and given a longer cooldown to compensate, since the change to looting and party size has made it much harder for that old smokepot rat strat to work, and gear is so much more plentiful now. As it is, I can see it being a good pick if you're only playing 1 layer maps, but no recharge at campfire means it's a liability to take it if you're planning to go down to layer 2 or layer 3.
the crossbow gains stats from rondel, so if you have a rondel with +1 weapon damage the crossbow will benefit from this, as well as the flat 5% armor pen innately on rondel
