I would like to make 2 recommendations
The first is Patrick Ness's Chaos Walking series, the first being The Knife of Never Letting Go. Basically everyone can hear everyone's thoughts, but then the main character finds out something that forces him to run but how's he gonna do that when everyone knows what he's thinking. Ness's The Rest of us Just Live Here is also a really good book, it's a stand alone.
The second is Kate Griffin's Mathew Swift series, the first is A Madness of Angels. It is difficult to describe this book without spoiling it but basically its about a sorcerer who's trying to find out what happened to London. This book can be difficult to read because the writing style is a bit strange, but if you can read it then please do so. Also this book has the best, most interesting magic system I have ever come across in any book, it is just so different and unique and just really really good. I'm not the reigning authority on magic systems but fantasy is my go-to genre and this is just the best system that I've read about.

I want to second the recommendations by others for Dune, Discworld, Wheel of Time, and the Martian. If you want something thoughtful, Station Eleven is great and has beautiful writing. I'm enjoying Orson Scott Card's Pathfinder series and I recommend Scott Lynch's Gentleman Bastards series (the first book is The Lies of Locke Lamora).
For non-fiction, I think you would enjoy An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth by Colonel Chris Hadfield. I think this book is really related to lot of the things you discuss on your channel. Also, as a Sci Fi fan, it's fun to read about the realities of living on the ISS. Another non-fiction book you might find intriguing is The Four Hour Chef. It's more about effective learning than about cooking.

You should read The Gentleman Bastards sequence, starting with The Lies of Locke Lamora. The characters are amazing, the worldbuilding is unique, the narration is teeming with flavor and the humor will having you thinking of the book for months. Three out of seven books have been released with the fourth one coming up soon. It's one of those books that once you pick them up you can't put them down until you've finished it.
Also, have you read the Stormlight Archives by Sanderson? It's like Mistborn but with a much grander scope (two out of ten books released), everything you liked about Mistborn is in it and much more. It's kinda hard to get into it though since the first half of the first book is filled with unfamiliar things and has you stumbling in the dark but once you realize what's going on it's a hell of a ride.

The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. My favorites in the first ten books are "A wizard's first rule, Faith of the Fallen, and Confessor. book 1,4, and 10 I believe. The whole story is great though. Also "Stranger in a strange land" by Robert A. Heinlein is one of my all time favorites. The split infinity trilogy is a lot of fun and really shows off the difference between fantasy and Science fiction. The incarnations of immortality by Piers Anthony. For loads of fun check out the myth adventures series by Robert Aspirin. R.A Salvatore writes great action scenes with Drizzt Do'hurden, also really enjoyed the cleric quintet. The books on your list that I have read were great so I am going to check out the others, just wanted to return the favor by sharing some of my own favorites.

For Sci Fi, I'm currently reading The Martian right now and I absolutely love it (haven't seen the movie yet).
For fantasy, I recommend Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. I've only seen the show, but I adored it and everyone said the show was an accurate adaption so I'm excited to read the book (I already bought it). It's another book with magic it's written in a way that throughout the book there are footnotes that explain things about the world and make it into a really believable place.
p.s. I have that same exact Sherlock Holmes book on your shelf! And the ultimate hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy leather book, but the cover is different.

I love Douglas Adams (I still listen to his books a lot) and based on that you might enjoy Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. In the first ones there are some attempts of rules of magic which are kind of abandoned in later books. The books are fantasy humour. I'm an audio book addict and you can find the whole series in audio version.

Great list! I've got a book recommendation that I think you'll enjoy. Although your list comprises mostly of sci-fi/fantasy books, the book I'm recommending is a horror novel called Bird Box by Josh Malerman. It's about a mother and her son and daughter navigating through a post-apocalyptic world blindfolded after most of the planet is overcome with this virus that turns people crazy and end up committing suicide. I'm currently reading it and it's really good so far.

One of my absolute favorite Science fiction is "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke. Another british writer. It is the mixture of unconventional science fiction, absolute fantasy and transcedental mystical tragedy behind it, which makes it in my eyes one of the best in the genre.
But i also enjoyed every single other of his books. Unlike other science fiction writers he also knew alot about the physical and technological capability of mankind in his time (mid 20th century) and applied the knowledge to rational think ahead of ongoing developments.

I adore the Hitchhiker series, but I haven't read any of the others you mentioned. If you like the sort of new genre of weird fiction, and you haven't read Jeff VanderMeer yet, try "Borne." I'm not sure I'd say it's a favorite, but it has stuck with me, and I did like it.

If you like "Fantasy" novels, then I can thoroughly recommend The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley.
It's sort of fantasy meets historical fiction and is touted (rightly so IMO) as the best ever retelling of the Arthurian Legend.
In order to preserve the "Old Religion" from the arrival of Christianity, the Druids perform an act of magic that creates two parallel worlds where the Isle of Avalon is taken into the mists, but lies side by side with Glastonbury, so that, if you approach the Tor "normally" there is a Church Tower at the top, but if, by sailing a boat on the lake and calling down the mists, you'll arrive at the same place, only the Tor now has a stone circle at the top.
It's basically a book about the struggle between the two religions and is a very long, but fascinating read. I've read it a number of times and love it each time I do.
All the "characters" from the legend are there, but The Lady of The Lake, is the high priestess of the Goddess Worship, based in Avalon and Merlin is a title (The Merlin of Britain) the head Druid.
The stance of the book is very much told by the women in the story.

3:30 so I picked up the first book based on your suggestion and the concept sounded amazing! So I read it and ..... ... The Warded Man was so bad! I got to a point halfway through that I was forcing myself to keep reading in the hopes of it getting better. I stopped reading altogether once I got to the part where the protagonist meets the "persian tribe people". The only pro about the book are the action scenes were well written, but besides that - womp womp. I could write more about why I did not enjoy the book at all, but I do not want to write an essay here. But still, you got my hopes up for this book :(

I love that two of the only Neal Stephenson books I could actually get through were the ones that got featured on your list. Snow Crash and Diamond Age are amazing! Also love Mistborn and Name of the Wind. Have you read The Dresden Files and/or Codex Alera, by Jim Butcher? Butcher's magic systems, worldbuilding and character interactions/development are some of the best out there, and he has a pretty good sense of humor as well. Also, more on the sci-fi side, I'd also recommend the Miles Vorkisogan series by Lois McMaster Bujold. Her protagonist is one of my all-time favorite fictional characters. Think Tyrion Lannister in space. ;)

I cannot make a ranking, because these are my top ones ever:
John Flanagan's "Ranger's Apprentice" saga - I loved this from the very beginning these are my climates. Definitely a "hole in one" for me.
Andrzej Sapkowski's "The Witcher" saga - Yes, you read that correct. I am a Pole, but that is not the main reason. It is just like it was with "Ranger's Apprentice", I just fell in love with "Last Wish" (I don't know how they translated it, but I think like this)
Camilla Läckberg's saga - I'm reading crime fiction for about a year and first crime fiction I read was the second part of the saga (I don't know what is the title in English). Yeah, reading from the second part doesn't make sense, but I didn't know it was actually the second part.
Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" saga - If I had to go to the desert island with only one book saga, it would be definitely it. I have read "The Lightning Thief" for like 10 times and I am never bored. This is actually my top.
My honorable mention would be Brent Weeks' "The Way of The Shadow". I like assassins and ninjas (seriously, I love books and games with this motive), but I don't know if I should buy the second part. Maybe I should. I don't know.
Anyway, awesome video, congrats (you COMPLETELY deserved it) and thanks. You made me a better student and I am really thankful.

If you like Kurt Vonnegut, I recommend Blindsight by Peter Watts. It's about a team of specialists in different fields on a mission for the first encounter with an alien species, but according to the author, the book could also be described as being about the singularity (of the transhuman variety) where not everyone could afford to participate. Watts himself is a marine biologist, so the aliens are done very well in the sense that they're not wholly implausible. I recommend getting the e-book, a physical copy would be a nightmare to get ahold of. If this appeals to you, there is a sequel titled Echopraxia that follows very similar themes, but is more focused on Earth and humanity rather than aliens. Cheers.

I've read the complete Ender's Saga and am planning on reading Ender's Shadow as well. I found I really enjoyed it. It is a fiction that could be a prediction of the human race's future and deals with a lot of morals, ethics, politics and strategy regarding alien-human interaction. But the author never fails to insert the human element which, in my opinion, creates a totally realistic universe that you can completely imagine being part of. To anyone who is a great fan of science fiction, it is a read I would recommend. Speaking of science fiction, I would completely recommend reading the Dune series by Frank Herbert. This deals more with humanity expansion across the universe and its dependence on a certain resource. It showcases the powerstruggle for control of said resource and the consequences and effects it has in humanity through time. A very advanced and precise type of science fiction especially for its time.
