- OK, it was the Vulcan but it wouldn't have been possible without huge Victor support.
This is an excerpt from a programme released at the time of the Victor's retirement from RAF service entitled 'Salute the Victor'.

I flew in the victor twice that night. Firstly a short trip where we gave away fuel to another victor then we were the recovery victor that met the Vulcan out of the Falkland Isles. It was a very interesting RV out of Ascension.
Huge respect to you John and the other crews involved. Astonishing effort and did its job - showed Argentina that it WAS possible to bomb at that distance which meant the mainland was a potential target - kept their fighters at home rather than deploy to the Falklands.

Having read Vulcan 607 how tight was the first landing back at Ascension given the shortage of fuel and the number of Victors holding at the far end of the runway, speaking as a former airline pilot? Btw, immense respect, the Victors not getting as much recognition as they deserved.
