Finished all 15 levels and they were amazing. I think I am a pretty good problem solver but not a good gamer so it took its time to finish them. Dough I think I cheesed level 12 not sure because I was forced to do pixel perfect jumps. But amazing work Pontus
Can you quickly explain how you fixed your issues? Like you talk about the menu not working in the build, while it works in the editor. This is an interesting problem and people want to know how you fixed it. It's just cool for fellow game devs that might encounter the same. It would be entertaining and educative at the same time. :)
I like how this guy is doing this, Then he is like "shit this is a bit hard" now he is STILL doing it, That is the separation between achieving your goals and not. We all can take a note here and realize the path to success is doing it even when it is hard, I started game dev about two years ago, then I learned code, modeling, animation, texturing, now I am finally able to start using unreal in a meaningful way, it takes a long time to get to that point. lots of respect points!
Game jams are a right of passage. The next rites of passage are a. working in a team b. making EVERYTHING yourself and c. doing one in 48-72 hours. Good luck!
After 3 hours I am done! It is a good gam though, but let me tell you something: "The hard part about a puzzle is to find the solution, the easy part is to execute it" So if I already know what to do, I should be able to easely do that. In your game I had fun finding the solutions, but it was frustrating to do all these perfect jumps. Fix this, and Im sure people will love your game!
Every time I work on a game for Ludum Dare, I always work myself to death knowing it has to be done within 2-3 days. But it feels so rewarding. Congrats on making it on time!
my friend's game jam game was similar to this in terms of game mechanics, character sprite, and game name lol. His game name is called Looped, I helped him with the level but it still needed more polishing and levels. Great job on your game its sick and fun still stuck at level 4 lol. Keep up the good work!
You are actually super underrated. I remembered seeing your ue4 video but i was ignoring it but then youtube recommended this and i thought that you are gonna be famous youtuber then i saw your pfp and reliable that you are the same guy. Lol this comment makes no sense but still the video and its quality was so good
This might be the best vid I've ever seen. Showing the exact process but without the video being 1 hour+ long.. love it. Hope you put more content like this up. Subscribed!
I just spent 20 minutes playing this, it's such a good game. Rather than spending 6 more months on punch a bunch with no income coming in spend a few weeks polishing this, add some more levels and improve the art and release it as early access on steam. It may give you some income to continue on your main game and will at least give you some experience of selling a game
First off, gotta say, you're videos are always top-tier, keep it up! Secondly, level design is an interesting beast. When I made my game, I wanted to make levels that were challenging, but fair. But it's quite difficult to know what a player will find challenging when you're looking at the game through a level designer's lens. You of course will know how to solve the level (or what platforming trick to use), but the player is looking at the game for the first time and may find what you think to be good, fair challenge to be rather frustrating. I can say from experience that when I played your game, I did get frustrated by (the infamous!) level 10, and by the time I got to the levels following it, I was more prone to frustration than optimism. I don't want to ramble on any further, I just think it's an interesting discussion.
I tried to make a game like this once, but I found that the puzzles I was making were just too basic to be interesting to anyone, it's just the nature of moving multiple players... once you figure out one problem the rest seem to be incredibly easy... so I added things like toggle switches and fans to blow the characters upwards to higher ground but yeah in the end scrapped it. it's very interesting to see you ran in to the same issues I did.
This has to be the most relevant game in this game jam. *Stronger Together* The naming of the game seems to be a little off but it's not. Cause after each door there's another door. *MindLoop*
Hey Ponty, Great video as usual. If you got interest in the black belt of the game jams, then join the Ludum Dare Compo jam. You got no graphics, no sounds, no music and only 48 hours.
This reminds me of a game I used to play as a kid. It was called FireBoy and Watergirl. WASD controls water girl and Arrow keys control Fireboy. And you can only go to the next level when you stand next to your corrosponding door
Hey Ponty, great content. One thing bugging me though is how do the game jam guys know that u haven't been working on the game for 2 years,, like how do they actually know u been working on it for 3 days o something Oh, and you can't dance BTW,, stick to game dev :)
