I'm not buying that Oz was too traumatised to warn his guys of the bomb, Oz's only priority outside of Francis is saving himself in any given situation, and he does it without an ounce of guilt. Also, I'm probably in the minority here, but I actually hope that Batman doesn't make an appearance in this show because I wouldn't want him robbing these characters' thunder in any way.

This was absolutely not filler. For my money, the word "Filler" gets misused in regard to American series a lot. Beyond old live television when stations would literally air live cams of fish bowls to fill the air, the current use of the term comes from Anime where the series would outpace the manga which necessitated the creation whole arcs to air until the manga had made some distance. These arcs, because of their purpose, couldn't contain any character changes at all and could not move the story forward in any way. As it was made by people who weren't creating the manga they also couldn't delve into characters backstories to flesh them out. Serialized television became this weird evolution of episodic television where a small block of episodes exist entirely outside of continuity.
This episode of The Penguin has almost none of those markers. We learned a ton about Oz and Francis in this. This episode revealing what happened to Jack and Benny is literally the one I've been waiting for since they first mentioned he had brothers. How could the episode where Sal and Oz finally battle, and Sal meets his fate, be filler? No way.

It was definitely intentional; it just wasn't pre-meditated. An act of an emotional angry outburst in the moment... but he knew what closing the hatch and NOT informing anyone or going back to open it, would result in. Looking out of the window at the heavy rain highlighted that he was aware of it ending badly for his brothers.

@JohnRochaSays I agree with you. After the bomb went off that would trigger Batman. Bliss is still new and it doesn’t seem to be killing anyone. I don’t think Batman‘s gonna get involved in a turf war over who’s going to control the family. But the bomb he would. Possible ending, the police commissioner is mad at Oz tells Gordon to investigate. The show ends with Oz on top. You hear the Batman theme one of his boys tell him to come outside and look up and you see the bat signal and end credits. That way he’s not in the show, but he’s in the show.

To break the cycle often means letting go of revenge. The Rocha's right. That was the lesson on last week's SUPERMAN AND LOIS, breaking the cycle of intergenerational pain by letting go of (perceived) wrongs and the need for revenge.

Hey Rocha and gang do you think Rex Calabrese is actually Oz’s dad and that’s why he’s both drawn to him but also has those cut throat tendencies that the other 2 didn’t. They have brown hair while Oz has the sleek black hair which we also see with Rex and his mane. Also Oz says he never knew his father and Rex and their mom have to be close for this gangster to trust this woman with his books and handling them.

Mike summed up that family dynamic nicely that's exactly how I saw it as well. I think it's there to show don't think that this guy's heart can be softened by any character it doesn't matter unless it's Mom. Even now she asked him to kill her. Don't think he has the stones to do it but he's definitely orchestrating it.

Gotham really is in dire straits if Julian Rush was able to keep his license as a psychiatrist, he seemed way too excited to “take care” of Gia for Sofia. I think Sofia should be much more wary about Julian because he seems like someone who is too eager to please her.

The ultimate revenge Sophia could deliver to Oz is Frances. The hypnotherapy takes Frances back to that morning worrying about Jack and Benny and why they let Oz walk home alone and questions she dare not ask causes Rush and Sophia to deduce the truth that Oz, somehow, killed his brothers ...
... and reveal it to Frances! 😱😱😱
But instead being blunt, Rush accuses Oz, needling Frances with accusatory questions about Oz that night while Sophia comes to his defense saying it might have been an accident and Oz was too scared to tell his ma.
So when Oz and Frances reunited, she's flooded with suspicions and pelts Oz with questions he can't answer until Frances concludes he is guilty of murdering her boys and just starts slapping him for his nondenials.
At which point Sophia says Italy would be nice this time of year and walks leaving the squabbling Cobbs behind her as her car pulls up and a guard opens the door for her and gets in afterwards as she tells the driver to the airport.
Then she realizes the driver is Vic, who head shots the guard, locks the door and say she's going on a slight detour and drives off. 😱🤣😱🤣😱🤣

Rocha actually I don't think Oz was getting mad at Vic forming a connection with his Ma. If you're talking bout the scene where he was saying "Jacky went to pay the electric bill" when she was having an episode and she got SUPER happy cause her dependable son Jack was gonna take care of em... giving that love to one of the brothers and that's what Oz was mad at. He wants all that love.

Being analytical about this show now because not everything is hitting, but still liking it more than not. It was nice to see that Rex wasn't as big as Oz had built him up to be and I think as people we do that a lot. Even sometimes undervaluing someone's position. Cool commentary.

Agree with Michael too it was a little underwhelming, but I think their "finale" a lot of it will carry over to the Batman 2. Plus that scene with Victor didn't even ask if he was okay wasn't concerned about him just where's Mama, the little boy that never grew up.

  • @nickvaughn8533

I love the actor that plays Victor…but no I don’t think or want him to be Red Hood specifically. Not because of race or anything like that. Red Hood is a big, intimidating guy and Victor isn’t which is not a slight against the character or actor. I’d be fine if he hypothetically became a different Robin but no for Red Hood

Why do people just assume Batman has to show up because shit blew up or is going bad. We have ZERO evidence he's even in the city and not on a mountain training with ninjas, that's just as plausible as him just sitting around the batcave after all the trauma he just endured with the riddler. Such narrow thinking.

Could you consider a tribute to Kevin Conroy as Batman? Nov 10th marks 2nd anniversary of his death. He and Mark Hamill as Joker were amazing. I made a tribute to him using the classic 90's toys with footage from Burton, Nolan, Arkham and Injustice but I don't got ur reach, and he deserves much bigger tribute
