Most gold dredges only recovered the smaller stuff. They used a classifier that dumped anything bigger than (?) 1.5 - 2.5 inches in diameter. 95% of all gold recovered by dredges is the small stuff. If you go thru the tailings piles with a metal detector, you may just find a fairly large nugget. Have done this myself... Just don't tell the landowners. Get permission to be there, but deny what you have found.
