  • Assassin's Creed Mirage is the most forgettable Assassin's Creed title in years. Not only is it NOT a return to roots, it takes the worst aspects of the originals and hangs on to too much of the RPG game mechanics and systems. I'm sad that Ubisoft let me down with AC Mirage. Is it a bad game?

@@danipatac7210 Look at the industry as a whole. It's not an opinion, it's a fact. The rise of microtransactions, games as a service, the marvel formula and the fix-in-post attitude has destroyed so many franchises and morphed the industry into a greedy for profit shit hole. Games used to be made for people to have fun: now games are made to milk players of their money. If you can't see this obvious and glaring fact then you are part of the problem. All informed gaming enthusiasts who are passionate about gaming know this.
Look, I'm glad you're having fun with the game. But don't deny it's flaws and dismiss the fact that a minority of studios actually care about making games that offer maximum fun and value for customers. The biggest case in point is Balders Gate 3 - that is a title made for players by players that highlights the shortcomings of 90% of other games. And to look at the other side, Cyberpunk took 3 years to become what it should have been (and is even still missing a lot of the promises that were made). Look at the graveyard of live service games. Look at all the single player games that are even getting stuffed with microtransactions to solve problems created on purpose by the studios - such as Assassin's Creed. Look at the broken launches like Redfall. Look at the terrible writing we see in most games, such as Forspoken or Farcry 6. Look at how studios are reviving older titles with remasters because they can't capture the same gold with new titles. Look at how Bungie destroyed what Destiny used to be in the name of making more and more money by manipulating players and on purpose and under delivering so they get praised when they do 1 tiny thing right. Look at how flanderised CoD and BF has become while also sporting some of the least creative game design we've ever seen. Look at how this new Assasain's creed game can't even capture the same tone or impact that the classics made. Look at how Rockstar neglect their single player experiences in favour of their online modes which get literally years of support and millions invested into making players buy more useless crap. Look at how all these incentives to make players log in and psychological tricks are deployed to increase the chances of you buying something.
Old school developers are probably sick to their stomach when they see what the industry has become.
You have been living through the death of games designed for fun and the birth of games designed for profit. It's literally staring you in the face. Don't try and tell me this isn't true without anything to back it up. This is why November is a hero because he actually speaks the truth about these things.

Not that I'm blaming the AC community for why this franchise has fallen off a cliff...the franchise has definitely strayed WAY too far from what it originally was...however, I know there are a lot of AC fans that HATED the present day stuff. But I maintain that the present day stuff was literally the entire purpose of the Animus allowing us to revisit the lives of various people in history. It would provide information to present day characters and inform their decisions to take action going forward. The historical stories were often interesting, but at least to me, they weren't the primary selling point. It was the mystery of the First Civilization, the artifacts of eden, all those things that, if uncovered, would allow present day characters to essentially rule the world due to how much power they wielded. Instead...
They basically wiped out the importance of the present day aspects, minimizing it to just brief strolls around the Abstergo offices for additional lore (don't even know if they still do it, I haven't played since maybe Freedom Cry), meaning the historical aspects have to carry more weight. Add to that the decision to add more and more and more rpg elements just for the sake of padding time, barely any system innovation, and completely losing the look, feel and creativity of the game world in favor of imitating other games.
Doesn't surprise me this game is being panned as terrible.

We really took for granted the old mechanics of the AC series. At the end of the day, they were at least unique to the AC series, now all we have is a combat system that's just a rip off attempt of Whither 3. The chain kills were easy to pull off but at least it made you fell like a real bad a** when you took out 20 enemies without taking a single hit. It actually made you look like a skilled assassin Also, at least pre-Origins AC gave you distinctive time periods with distinctive cities. Venice, London, Florence, Rome, Paris, Constantinople. All AC Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla had to offer were empty deserts, hills, and fields sprinkled with villages and one boring, almost flat city

Why are the animations for something like that so fucking off-putting? Man, brings me back to the last two splinter cell games and their stupid "point here and everyone dies woohoo" mechanics.

  • @juandalinho1363

you do realise that this game didn’t have the same backing nor the necessary amount of time to develop as the others. they were essentially stuck with branching off of valhalla in terms of the story and the engine they used to make the game which is why it feels similar to valhalla. however at the end of the day with the resources they had they made a fun game which while admittedly flawed is still enjoyable just like the older games which have flaws themselves but we are able to look past them because of the memories we had. this game hasn’t been out that long and still has time to be updated and fixed so while you may not get the nostalgia of the old games from this one, give it the benefit of the doubt for closely resembling the genre that we love because the developers seem really passionate and proud of this project and i’d say they’re on the right track to going back to the roots. they can’t start this journey with a perfect game but at the very least this game (for me and for most) was a fun game which is something we all desire at the end of the day. you can’t go into a game expecting it to suck or ready to compare to another game because that just ruins the experience. people play games differently so who am i to judge how others play but i just think that your perspective on the game is very negative and narrow minded.

oh and another point which i really wanna get off my chest. that teleportation thing basim does gets a lot of criticism which i really don’t get. because a) it looks cool as fuck, b) it not being realistic is a dumb argument because the series started with an apple that can control minds (i.e. nothing is realistic in this series it’s fiction you’re telling me an assassin can run around and climb shit for days without sleeping), c) what’s wrong with the game trying to be unique have a mechanic that somewhat distinguishes itself from its predecessors?

    • @Endersoul-tx1of
      @Endersoul-tx1of 7 месяцев назад

@@juandalinho1363My counterpoint to the teleport thing with Basim is that it feels redundant. You already have overpowered tools like the smokebomb, and in combination with the braindead enemy AI, you're gonna breeze through the game even in hard difficulty. Save for style points, it just feels unnecessary to have it and even using it trivializes some of the actual challenge the game has to offer. That's just the gameplay aspect.
In lore, the devs say that it's because Basim moves so fast that the Animus has difficulty keeping up... which is nothing short of lazy justification. You're telling me the that technology that can track the effects of an ancient piece of technology from a civilization much more advanced in turn can't track the speed of a man that's fast and so glitches out? That sounds lazy. Hell, if the Animus can track the effects of the Apple of Eden, why the hell can't it track Basim's speed? It's just so redundant and lazily justified in lore that it pretty much deserves the criticism it got, especially in the type of game it's in.

It’s so fragmented and uninvolving the way they set it up. A tighter, more focused direction would probably made a small difference. As it is it just feels like more Ubi junk food. Did i enjoy it more than the last 3 games? Yes absolutely. But if Ubisoft wants their respect back, they should have made it from ground up making a more realistic approach to stealth and smooth out the movements and combat. Add a few new stealth elements that would make it feel fresh and new. Allthough i didn't like the direction they took starting with Origins, they did work on a new type of combat system so they at least tried.
Sorry, i don't agree with what others say about this is what they were able to do in such a short time. Saying that means you accept that Ubisoft are lazy. Take an extra year on the game to polish it, give it better dialogues and story and not rushed out.

i've been meaning to buy the first game and try it out for a while now, but on your point about the combat system it did make me question "why is a stealth assassin doing combat?". Or perhaps you're a more regular assassin which would make it fine.
now i'm probably gonna be proven wrong and that's fine, but i think having combat be more similar to Mark of the Ninja would work better if you're meant to be a more stealthy assassin - you can kill enemies in direct combat, but it's a bit harder than stealth is (due to Mark of the Ninja being a stealth game) so you're encouraged to do the stealth (perhaps you could even get a stealth bonus on your XP to further encourage it).
granted, i probably shouldn't have made this comment since i haven't played the games, but stealth games are a great genre with only a handful of good ones so it'd be nice to have another entry into it, ya know?
