Absolutely. I don't want people to freeze on the streets, it will cost less and be safer to let them fill out paperwork and fly home to await a decision. I've been wondering for years why defunct malls, schools, gyms, warehouses, or storage facilities are not being used to provide emergency housing. It's not perfect, but it's shelter from the heat and the cold.

The law for a long time permitted them to cross anywhere and declare themselves an asylum seeker once detained. So all these migrants are waiting for temporary work permits until their court date arrives. Biden did change this policy when title 42 ended. Now crossing illegally will get you blacklisted 5 years (so they say). But there's already so many that have already entered. Whole thing is a mess.

There needs to be legislation repealing the Sanctuary City status. Vote every alderman that supported this out.
Hopefully this will be an eye opener for many of the attendees. The city of Chicago has a long history of underinvestment in poor black communities. I too would be furious at the way Chicago politicians are rolling out the Red Carpet for people with highly dubious asylum claims who have shown up on our doorstep. Why should they receive free housing, food, legal services, social workers to sign them up for any and all available benefits, free medical care, free clothes, etc. etc while actual American citizens are in danger of being evicted and are cutting prescription pills in half to make the supply last longer? Charity begins at home and as long as we have needs in our own community the buses should be directed elsewhere.

The border states have stated for a long time that the cost to have all these illegal immigrants is putting a strain on these states financially. Then the border states started sending them to the Democrat sanctuary states, and the sanctuary states are now saying the same thing, that it's putting a huge strain on them financially and they simply can't afford it long term. So this means it's not cheap, and it's not an easy problem that you can bully states by calling them racists for it. This is why rules exist in the first place, to prevent insanely costly things such as this. Do you have any idea how far $51 million dollars would have gone in addressing problems HERE in Illinois? I live here, I used to go to school in downtown Chicago, you see homeless people everywhere. Why can we come up with $51 million dollars for people who aren't even from here, but we can't spend that money to save the people here? If you think that's acceptable, then it's because you're an absolute moron who can't think clearly.
I am so proud to see the residents of Chicago walking the talk and supporting the migrants with everything they want. Truly living up to the tile of a sanctuary city. It's good that this conversation is being had in other parts of the county than just the border states. This is something the whole country needs to discuss. Ultimately both the Democrats and Republicans are allowing millions of people to pour into the country because it allows big corporations to have a workforce that doesn't cost much in wages or require safety regulations, healthcare, and other benefits. Such a low paid population also allows the minimum wage to remain at $7 rather than the $24 it should be if it kept pace with inflation.
You understand the big picture. This isn't political. The GOP's donors are the people lobbying for the expansion of child labor. The companies being fined for immigrant child labor are the same which line the pockets of the Republican party. For Dems, migrants willing to work for low wages with no benefits or unions would be an obstruction to workers' rights that the liberal voters care about so much. I don't blame the migrants for wanting to come to feed their families and live a better life. They're some of the most hard-working people around. But if they're not being taught English and have no skills, they're effectively wards of the state, and sheltering them is nothing less than warehousing.
