    Hey man,
I want to say thank you for showing us your perspective of what it’s like firefighting in the Air Force. I’m 23, live in Florida, both Florida fire 1/2 and NREMT certified, but finding a job hasn’t been the easiest. With your videos and other research, I’ve put a lot of thought into whether joining the AF would be a great path to jump into, and get a boost towards my career path without the struggle of getting a job, or if I’d be not really using my time wisely if what I really desire is to just be a civilian FF. I have 32 college credits which I know that would help me join slightly higher rank, and since I’ve already have been through a fire academy, I feel as if that would help me through tech school tremendously. On top of that I already have my Emt so I have the great opportunity to come in a little ahead of the people around me enlisting.
I believe I saw another video of yours saying you didn’t want to continue firefighting post AF, but would love to hear what the talk around the station is like for people who aspire to do just that. I know about DoD already, but what have you heard about it from being around the station for 3+ years, have you heard people loving it? Have people had a lot of success landing a civilian job if they decided to leave the AF entirely? Im aware those national carts won’t work everywhere, and I feel like the veteran points only get you so far on an application, but I’d love to hear your thoughts man or at least what you’ve heard about from other people around you who still aspire to be a FF after their contract.
Thanks man and thank you for your service! (Btw I’ve been a follower of CG, Maxx, Shawley, Russ, the whole gang for about 4 years now. Love seeing you do your own thing and inspiring others, while repping the stuff from people who’ve inspired you.)

Nick Schoepf I just want to start off by saying I truly appreciate you taking the time out of your day to watch this. Just like you I’m sure tons of other people are having the exact thoughts running through their head. The Air Force is a great way to have a reliable and steady income as oppose to certain jobs where you can be laid off at any given time. Just remember at the end of the day you sign a contract, if it’s not what you expected and don’t really enjoy it unfortunately we can’t just get up and leave. So definitely there is pros and cons just like everything else in life! It really seems like you’re far ahead of the curve for fire protection. If I was a recruiter I’d definitely do my best to work with you knowing your past experience, certifications, college, etc. Once you’re out or close to getting out I do know it’s easier to become a civilian government employee in the fire service. So technically you’ll still work for the Air Force or any branch you choose really but you’ll be a civilian. As far as that goes I’ve heard it’s who you know really that can get you in a good spot somewhere. It can be easier to get an actual fire job at a civilian department as well just like you said based off the point system. You’ll have military experience, hopefully some of your certs transfer over, and a combination of things can set you apart. Really just depends on what the civilian department you’re applying for accepts. Definitely, that’s an awesome video topic tons of people would want. People with more experience than myself, people who are wanting this career as a lifer, and people who genuinely cannot get enough of that fire fighter lifestyle. Got a couple of people in mind at my station. You’ll definitely will bring seeing their perspective from it. Small world!!!! Been watching them for years!!! Once again, your words are truly motivational to continue to crank out information/content that people want to know more about. Best of luck on your future, I’ll be sure to get you and others the most inside perspective of the department here at Peterson AFB!😎🙏🏼

I've been in tech since March at Goodfellow, you can get up to four fails right now, or if you get three fails in the same block your out. Some people it's case by case scenario and some were rarely granted a few more.

Was it academically hard? I know nothing about fire fighting but I want to do it I’m just scared I won’t pass the tests... I passed the asvab and got a average score of 50. @Mk3Bomber

@@chickensandwich9986 Everyone learns different however when it came to the academic/classroom portion of training it was fairly straight forward. They give you everything you need to know for a written test, its just up to you to study it. Its not setup for you to fail, the instructors want you to pass but like i said its up to you. It was fairly simple as an out of high school average kid to score 90's on the written tests. A lot of the failouts/washbacks were from the hands on portion of the training. A lot of fails for evals were for safety such as not correct ppe, over time, or missing a step. I got reclassed due to med. but if your passionate about this job you will make it through. They have the greatest instructors there and its one of the best academies in the US. Tips: don't let a recruiter force you into a job, wait for the one you want, study, exercise, and have a great attitude. My operational friends I saw come and go in the academy have the best jobs in the AF. Make someone tell you no and give it a shot. I'm glad I can say I tried my absolute hardest rather than not trying at all.

Just got out of tech school! In the fire academy there’s three blocks now you can only have 4 fails and one washback they have started to get stricter since I’ve been there. Out of a class of 10 only 4 of the original 10 graduated I just wanted to add a little more insight of fresh eyes. But I love your videos thank you!

Really appreciate your videos, I’m currently active duty coast guard and looking at joining the Air Force reserves or air guard for fire protection.
What are the differences between reserves & air guard in relation to fire protection? Is it easier for 1 to volunteer for active orders (title 10) over the other one? And do they work 24 hour shifts for their drill weekends or do they have to day work.
I’m currently FL Fire fighter cert 1 & 2. I have my NREMT and FL-EMT. I will be starting paramedics this fall too.

I drink 3-4 32oz bottles of water a day and basically eat keto but it’s more protein than fats and I’ve dropped about 100 pounds since November of 2018. I’ve got another 40-50 pounds to go before I can go talk to a recruiter. Weightlifting wise cross fit is a great workout to get fit for fire
