I am a professional painter for over 25yrs and have my own company in maryland, and I have actually learned a few tips by watching your videos just wanted to say good brother keep the painting vids coming. Ken
OMG is that the Truth...it's Really common sense in painting bro...most guys paint for years and still don't grasp how to put paint on properly... they paint exterior of house and it last may 1yr or 2yrs if lucky...Couple ways to paint exterior of house...2yr,5yr, 10yr..even 15yrs..I have done exterior house painting and they can last 15 yrs easy..just did a repaint of one I did 14yrs ago..I didn't need to scrap anywhere because I prep it so good last time...this technique Mike showed here is 100% correct...its how to get the proper mil thickness of paint..on a 1 coat pass...second coat will add years if customer what to pay more material and labor cost...Take Pride in your work..This is what's wrong with trades these days...No Pride...Thanks for Video's Mike..you are dead on Bro
Super helpful. I'm not a professional painter by any means but your videos might make me into one... lol... the part about not pushing but releasing the paint was the issue and I didn't even know it! Thank you!
Mike you are old school. I’ve been watching some painting videos and yours are the best, no bullshit, tell it how it is. A lot the good painters are dying out. I grew up fourth generation in the industrial painting. I am now 44 years old. Residential/commercial is the same but different. Nonetheless, I know you are THE authority on this stuffs. Even though your a little cocky, you’ve earned the right to be as such.
Mike, I like watching your videos alot of great information on here. I am also a licensed painting contractor and I prime and paint 2 coats on all exterior trim. Yes, it takes longer but all my jobs last 10÷ years. I have always believed that applying paint is a two coat process for proper mil thickness, durability and performance of the paint. Happy Painting.
You can get the same results by doing the method I do. My paint jobs last over 10 years as well. I did a house up in the mountains that lasted more than 20
Love the way you go about explaining techniques with fine detail to the viewers. You're setting yourself apart from other paint-video-RUclipsrs. This Channel will grow quickly. Sub'd & Shared. Two questions for you when you have a moment: 1. Using the standards of painting, can I paint my eaves with the same semi-gloss I'm painting my facia boards or is there a different finish to be used? 2. Can I paint with rain gutters with the same semi-gloss and Alkyd primer I'm using, based on the standards of painting? Note: I'm using a Graco Cordless Handheld
I have a home built in the 60's that looks almost exactly like the home you're working on in this video. Roofers replaced some of the wood fascia, and the old fascia has prior paint. Do I need to use a stripper or just sand the old paint in order to paint all the fascia?
Always better to do 2 coats private jobs isn’t about how fast you are it’s about quality I do it your way but do it 3 times, 1 undercoat 2 top coat unless the area isn’t too badly messed up just under coat and one nice top coat not too thick covers well
sadly it is always about time and money. Most people want a super long lasting perfect job for a dime store budget.....you need to compromise to make a profit.....Not saying cheat but give them a good job that lasts long and meets their price point. were not building monuments. NOBODY will pay you for primer and 2 coats and let you make a fair living. Keep that in mind.
Tried again today, last time ws good today when i came through with the brush it started sticking to the wet paint that i had rolled i cant tell did i wait too long or not long enough?
2 good coats better than one thick one ,and if you have to quote jobs that only have enough $$ on them for one coat.the client is thick or your cheating ,I've seen a few paint jobs
Couldn't you just use a 1/2"nap roller all the way rather then a brush? only thing with rollers they leave stipple bumps but brushes will leave brush marks.
weenie or slim jim is the type of roller the nap is 1/2 inch. But using the brush after helps the coverage immensely. gives you a thicker coat and better coverage.
that was for demonstration purposes I have several videos with me putting on paint. surf the channel that was for technique only. My one coat jobs last just as long as any 2 coat jobs I have ever seen. many for over 10 years. So faster and better is better than doing the job 2 times and not getting paid for the second.

thanks I still learn new stuff every day. Guys who think they can learn anymore are not usually very good at what they do.

That's how I've been doing it for 25 years... good video!
figured you do it that way. Brush after roll on that facial board. ha ha.
mikethepainter I've sent guys home to think about it. When they cut in first
yea that heavy coat really makes a better job. it lasts longer fills in the cracks and makes the job look nicer.
Thank you for the suggestion/video

Great video, thank you.]

probably too long
Hi mike you NOT done video of your spraying interior work
2 good coats better than one thick one ,and if you have to quote jobs that only have enough $$ on them for one coat.the client is thick or your cheating ,I've seen a few paint jobs
Fascia?
That facia board needs repaired
Couldn't you just use a 1/2"nap roller all the way rather then a brush? only thing with rollers they leave stipple bumps but brushes will leave brush marks.
rollers can remove the paint. Brush can release the paint better.
Great advice, but it is fascia board not facial as in the title
Yeah I think I was using text to speech and it doesn't recognize that word
Ordering Graco silver plus gun 2moro
Is that foam slim jim or wool ???
I like the synthetic for the slim jim the wool tend to lump up a bit and more cat eyes.
Who uses weenie naps anyway. Half an inch naps is what I use and it covers in one coat.
weenie or slim jim is the type of roller the nap is 1/2 inch. But using the brush after helps the coverage immensely. gives you a thicker coat and better coverage.
Could have filled holes and cracks ? One coat that's why your faster ,not better
Ph Br you know he wasn't really painting, right?
Bo Haggin yes but he says he's faster and better than everyone but I don't see and paint being applied? ,normal yank think they are best at all
