This doll is probably a resin bjd, if that's the case the chemical smell is from the resin. The smell will go away once the doll has been out of the box for a few days.

I have my son’s dog at the moment - we love him to pieces but he chews everything! Awww, she is a cutie! Love her final look. She sure does have some big eyes. Sometimes you never can tell much until you have a doll in your hands. I have been looking at that sculpt for a while. She's really cute! What I use to hold wigs on is silicone ear plugs from walmart. They come as little discs and I use a tiny rolling pin to make them flat. Then I just press them onto the scalp of the doll, in a thin layer. Then put the wig on over that. It won't slip at all, it doesn't damage anything and I've had dolls with their wigs securely in place for years. How do you adjust the eyes to look different ways? Is there a lever?
