Just out of curiosity why do you wear 2 watches?
@@southernbang5896 So he can tell what time it is when he's coming and when he's going???
Maybe buy a few rubber matts to throw down on the concrete where you are going to drive that thing and park it.
My apologies for pointing out the obvious in your last video I understood you knew what those pins could do to your driveway. I was just trying to share some friendly knowledge that I've required my apologies again and God bless
“Furious Rant” “Ice Spikes”!!!!
As a fellow skid steer aficionado I enjoyed the video, but I thought we were going to be talking about Minecraft.
Just a suggestion, when you stud a snowmobile track(similar studs) you don't want the scratch pattern in a row, so its best to offset the studs by an inch or so so the aren't in a line down the track. That way each stud is biting into a fresh area of ice or snow. Really enjoy you channel.
Yea, I was thinking the same. I always prefered a double zigzag (diamond) pattern.
Yeah a quick template and as many offsetting scratch lines as possible will get the most traction out of your studs. Good call Scott.
Shut up

@@greatwhitenorthlife2327 thats why kubotas has different track options studed, turf, threaded tracks options
If that cat hanging out underneath the wood stove doesn't convince people the set up is safe then they truly are lost.
You didn’t show what it looks like with all the pins in. I’m going to give constructive criticism. You have started not showing completing videos. It’s like watching a movie and then it turns off 10mins before the end. Some examples are, not seeing the gas tank get painted, not seeing your sons reaction to the car upgrades and now not seeing all the pins in. I think it would be more interesting to see the videos completed. I know I might get blocked for saying this. But I enjoy your content and then I feel let down at the end. Sorry if you take this badly. It’s just my opinion.
Yeah I was waiting for the finale' and see how much better the traction improved . Everyone was. And then there was the empty ending.
Dual alternators just aren’t enough for Cody anymore. He’s resorted to dual watches.
Never in my life have I seen someone wear two watches at once. 🤦♂️
David LaMattina General Schwarzkopf did.
I think NUTNFACY is up to 3 👍🏻
The other one is probably to watch his heart
@@Llamathellegend He wears two so he doesn't walk crooked. It's all about balance.
About the studs and Captain Obvious. A friend of mine, in Montana, studded a couple of pieces of power equipment last year. To prevent gouging on his shop floor he bought a couple of those heavy rubber mats like they use in stables to help traction with horses shoes. It worked like a dream in his shop. In summer he simply hung the mats on the wall near the door. Just a thought from a friend. God bless you brother.
Old tires works well too.
The "Do I spent $250 and 10 hours of labor on this thing or do I just spend the $500 and be done with it?" decision has to be one of the most agonizing decisions a Professional Homeowner ever has to face
I used to agonize over these types of decisions, but anymore if it is at all close and I can use my time with family or in another productive way, I offload whatever work I can. I spent to many hours on the road working for others, then coming home and working on my own projects to the neglect of family. I realized that my time had a value not only to employers, or customers, but also to myself and my family.
A couple pieces of plywood to lay on the floor when you back it into the shop will be cheap anti scratch for your concrete. Same as what we use for when we run the dozer in and out.
We used old tires for our track vehicles, just leap frogged them.
That's a great idea. I was thinking about a couple layers of thick cardboard, but figured it might pull up in some areas, but the plywood sounds like a great idea. Maybe not ideal for turning though. Just drive it straight in and out could be great.
I have first had experience with these grip studs in our John Deere 333 track skid loader. The machine is used for power line right of way construction in New England. Like Cody said, they will gouge the concrete and asphalt. Most modern skid loaders that use an "iso" pattern joystick control tend to drag one of the tracks while the other track rotates in order to turn the machine. And because of this, our machine has lost approximately 80% of the studs after one season.
We have also found that they don't help much in situation where the surface is uneven and the machine can't scrape the snow cleanly. Even if there is 1/4" of snow left on the ground, the studs no longer made contact with the ground and were basically useless. I believe that using a longer stud would only cause more pull outs.
They probably would work great on very smooth asphalt parking lots of concrete.
Just got my Icebugs with carbide studs today, took them for a run on an slopy icy road in -13F (yes, with a minus), they stay on ice like glued. Total game changer.
I use the same setup on my boots for ice fishing lol. They work great.
I love hearing the cuckoo clock in the background. Just a suggestion, use your 12" speed square, line it up on the outter edge of the track, with a white market draw a 45° line across the track, slide the square up 12" and repeat, put your studs in every other track pad. This will give you a chevron pattern, much better then inline.
those glasses breaking apart at the nose caught me off guard. 🤣😅
I ordered small studs intended for bicycle tires and studded my winter shoes. I heartily recommend!
Everyone know you don't turn your studded skidsterr around in your driveway. If you need to do it you go out to the public road at the end of your driveway to do your cookies. Geeze people
We run compact track loader for yard clearing as well. For winter to pull into the shop during the winter we went and got thick rubber mats from princess auto (our harbour fright) works perfect and way cheaper than fixing concrete floors.
I ran studded tires on a wrangler here in dallas. You could hear me coming down the road!
No need for apologies. Part of being a professional homeowner/husband/father is knowing when your time is more valuable than what something costs. Kudos sir.
good choice I raced motorcycle sidecars on ice we used sheet metal screws in knobby tires on 750 cc motorcycle front and rear tires better traction on ice than the tires had in dirt and we had a blast. thanx for the video
Great info! Thanks!! I live on Texas Gulf Coast, not much snow here; sir!
Used a version of these spikes on our quads to ride on the ice. Work great, rarely came out.
My wife gave me a Ken Onion knife sharpener for my birthday recently. I was able to finally sharpen my EDC to a great edge, next up is the kitchen knives. She said she had to go back and watch some of your videos to find out which one to get me because I didn't curate my Amazon Wish List. 😂 We need a Spyderco or a 940 emoji :D
So I'm an electrical engineer in the controls automation field where I'm using molded end cables literally every day in varying gauges and number of conductors and whatnot. And I can say without a shadow of a doubt in this situation, Cody is 100% correct and way better off in just getting the pre-manufactured plug. I can and do make plugs myself but... yeah it's worth it to buy one off cables if they're available.
I guess the next video will be about installing hakkapeliitta tires on your cars.
The Navy made me into an aircraft electrician, so yeah I would buy the connector, wire, tools and get the 'pinout' diagram. I probably wouldn't save much money, it would take some time, but I'd have fun.
Yes, that sounds fun.
my buddy has 3 kubota svls track skid loaders and it has universal connetors wich take a wrench and swath it wich the connectors at my kubota dealer only $15.00 and cat and deere here are rediculas with theres
Mate can I ask for you to keep me in your prayers. Last year I lost my cafe to covid. Most of my money retrained now lost my work to covid as a disability worker. And now my wife wants to separate ahhhh
You're in my prayers Michael. Lord grant me strength, teacheth my hands for war and my fingers to fight. 🙏💙
Cody, I remember back in the day, studded snow tires used to be the thing. In Missouri, you were allowed to use them during the Winter months. Between certain dates, they weren't allowed. Either I haven't looked for them or they quit making them, but I don't see or hear them anymore. I hope your snowfall isn't too wet, I'm anxious to see how the blower works.
Please send some of that cool weather to us east coast guys in North Florida! It’s been 80° this week, not cool at all. God bless y’all.
It is below freezing here in New England, northern east coast!
Yes please! from south Florida
The cat has the right idea with the weather, hiding under the stove!
My old uncle used to say you aren't paying me so much for what I do, you're paying me for what I know. Sometimes you come out ahead just spending the money.
I feel more Christmasie just watching your show. Being a Mesa man = no snow. Like your rig. I want to see you run that rig with the 'enhancements'. Bump up for the algorithm.
Use loctite 480 on those spikes!
The most tedious job I ever did, was to install steel cleats on my old 73 snowmobile track. The cleat kit came with two bags of rivets, each of which, I had to put in by hand, after drilling out hundreds of rivets to start with. Took me two days of hand cramping work. I said never again, after that was over with.
Your furious rants ain't what they used to be, Cody. ;o)
I'm still hoping for a Q&A. Clean those sunglasses and let's go!
In regards to the 14 pin... I believe a professional homeowner is not ever scared to try anything themselves (as you say), but, a professional homeowner also knows which battles are best dealt with a purchase or hire. Bought not built can sometimes be better when it comes to time!
Hey Cody. Hope you and your family are doing well. I have a possible suggestion to dealing with the thick heavy snow. I went to college up in the mountains were we were always hovering around the 32degree mark so we had thick wet snow and ice storms that would drop 1"of ice after snowing 12". And they used the hydro power brooms on their bobcats to clear all of the sidewalks/mega walkways. Me being curious I talked to one of the snow crew guys. He told me that if he runs the broom at full rpm it will shoot snow 20-25' at the typical "snow blower arc" and take it down to bare concrete. Since you no longer have a gravel driveway I figured it might be something to look into. Love all of the content for years. You and your family are always in my prayers. Thank you for everything you do!
God bless.
Our crews have a dozen old tires in the truck. They create a perfect runway to protect the surface from damage. Just lay them down in a row. Needs a couple of people though. Driver plus tire mover so your mileage may vary.
Toupee looks pretty good today. Trimmed and nice and shiny.
Cody has a very distinguished looking toupee. I might like to pick one up like that for myself. I wonder if he ordered it off Amazon?🤔😂
What a terrible rant!!! You’re getting soft with age Cody. Lol bless you and family this holiday season. Keep up the good work and looking forward to our next episode
I was hiding behind the couch waiting for him to go Baldwin🙂
I found a company that does screw in studs for forklifts. Just like the one you have. Really handy on ice and frosty smooth surfaces.
In Australia we harness the flies to keep the tracks off the bitumen so the tracks don’t melt
Had some wicked winds here in northeast Kansas today. Lots of trees blown over. Getting the gang together with chainsaws and going to clean up town in the morning. Wish us luck!
Yeah, I agree, I was looking forward to a bigger rant 😎. The winter intro with floating Loctite and mobile was great- made me laff - thanks. I can’t say “captain obvious “ to my daughters - they would be mad at me - but tempting 😎
To minimize the wear on the concrete floor, you coud park your skidsteer on some rubber mats. Make sure you can drive it straight in to your barn on to the mats.
In our organisation the montain rescue hast the whole winter snowtracks on there landrovers. To protect the washbox we have some mats on the ground. This system works now for years and is pretty cheap too.
East coaster here. These are so great. I can’t wait to get some put them on my wife’s tires. Might even do all my vehicles and my tractor.
🤪 West coasters probably thought I was serious.
Coooooooool!
Nice wood stove and fan.
The coockoo clock is lovely
I like the room 🐱 👍
The part for the JvC plug, I would order that part too.
Good to hear you are well 🙏
Mama kitty 🐱 deserves a blanket for her curl up on, under that wood stove.
Those studs are a lot smaller than I've seen used before. It will be interesting how those work out. Not sure how long they will survive CTLs are tough on tracks. Not sure if you watch Stanley Dirt Monkey he does a lot and I mean a lot of plowing with CTLs in Minnesota.
I have ran grip studs for five years since they were invented 100% the best unbeatable
Cody was the person who put Stanley on. Stanley was a little RUclips channel before Cody recommended his viewers to watch Stanley's channel.
My snowblower is studded, I bought it used and it came that way. I'm careful and it still scratches the heck out of my driveway and garage floor. Grips great...I just am not a fan of the scratches. It will be interesting to see how you fare with them.
No matter what I do or how careful I am, my carbides on my snowmobile chew up my driveway. I don't know about your machine but with snowmobiles it's bad. Throw some plywood or something down to protect your floor.
Used tires, old conveyor belts or horse stall mats. Wood is too valuable nowadays.
@@putmeincoach7663 you're right, it'd be cheaper to replace the concrete than use the wood. LoL 🤣
I think I redefined “double take” with the loctite snow flakes.....best edit ever!
You should put a small rug under the woodstove for the cat. Doesn't need to be fancy, just enough that it will get her off the concrete.
My uncle always used to put machines with studs on a big rubber mat. These mats are cheap and a good maintained workshop floor gives me the fizz. God bless.
Im sure you have already heard about them but zig zag tracks work quite well in the snow and won't damage driveways. Albeit likely not as good as studs which I have not used. Great content!
Yes, a man needs to understand the value of his time. It is one thing you cannot get more of. Determine your value, make a decision and move on.
You can make more money. You can’t make more time.
Minnesota, we had 56° today!!!
CRAZY temp for Minnesota!!!
I say SO WHAT!!! I have to run chains on my wheel skidloader in winter Ya the drive way shows some scuffing.. yet Im getting out in the worst case snowstorm.. its not like my driveway has to be perfect as I live in the country.. trees get rubbed... brown spots in grass areas...tree limbs fall.. AHHHHHHH a few scuffs...
AND yes common since in how you turn but I also use that same since on dry soil too..
UGG some people.. good video Cody..
I seriously thought he was going to address the fact he’s wearing two wrist watches.
I have the same machine with studs in it and we do commercial snow plowing, it works great.
You can do a lot of damage with the studs but I run logging chains on my loaders and those things will pull asphalt up if you're not careful. I'll tell you what I can go anywhere with those chains.🤠
Keeping the cleats closer to the center will allow the weight of the machine through the bottom rollers to dig better in side hilling and forward motion. Plus reduce the chances of tearing a track with holes further from the edge. Keep up the good content and god bless.
Great video Cody. 🙏👍
Don't beat yourself up about the pigtail, as a professional homeowner one of the most important lessons you can learn is to pick your battles. It's very easy to waste huge amounts of time and effort on something you should have bought in whether it be professional help or in this case pigtails!
I got some studded screws for my dirt bike tire from the local shop and they were basically just super sharp sheet metal screws. Worked amazing on slippery trees and clay.
lol oh man, the christmas intro and outros are back! That's was fantastic Cody. Those spikes are seriously cool, you just know when you find something well made. So....these spikes seem like they are just for when it's icy? I'm a winter noob so I don't know much.
I added the accessory harness to kabota skid steer it wasn't difficult. A complete harness plug n play style would have been nice. I've had cat skid steers my whole life. My first one was a Case then about 15 years of cat. Then I had back to back situations where the machine died in such a way the only way out was to bust the front glass. I'm 2 years into my kabota. And the door makes everything easier.
May I ask what stove fan that is
Do you have any scrap lumber that you can lay on the floor to run on when using the studs? Even if it is just a straight in and out lane to go on in and out of the shop.
Us poor folk just use hex-head sheet-metal screws.
Did that on my self-propelled snow blower and all slippage stopped - immediately.
Easy to find and inexpensive. Get 'em in bulk at Home Depot or Lowes or similar.
The Axe is an Ochsenkopf. The design is so iconic.
Lol! I can't believe people told you to build it. Those mil spec circulars are an extreme pita to procure let alone the crimp too the positioner and the crimp pins. I wouldn't wish that on anyone and that's what I have to deal with on aerospace
I was waiting the entire video for the 'Furious Rant". Did you edit out the Furious part? :-) Was a normal fun video :-)
The furious Wranglerstar rants aren't the same without aviators.
You are awesome! Keep doing what you're doing. "Professional homeowners" need a reference.
Hey Cody, just bought a granfors bruks outdoor axe, thoughts and what else should I get for a homeowner/shtf, keep in the vehicle axe? I was thinking about either the small forest axe or the American felling axe so I can have something bigger as well.
Winter so far In Florida is terrible. Usually around this time we can get 30s and 40s at night but the last 2 weeks has been mid 80s every day and like 68 for the low. It’s terrible. I look foreword to the cool weather every winter in Florida only for it to stay warm and humid
So, which wrist do you prefer to wear your watch on?
I expected the studs to be way bigger. I thought they were gonna be 3inch studs. Those ones will do fine for a west coast winter 😉.
I believe the right term is donuts, not cookies! Merry Christmas 🎄
It would be interesting to compare these carbide tips to the ceramic tips we used to use in snow tires in the late 60s.
Damn it that axe teaser has me going. Buddy of mine was asking me about trying to find him a 20inch camp axe to throw on a four wheeler to clear branches but he didn't want to pony up the 120+ dollars for the swedish stuff.
Blessings to all our brothers and sisters. Peace be with you all.
You could drill and stud with auto studs .We do it all the time on ATV tires they stay in real well
Any one else know he’s rocking the double watch ! He’s never late for anything
Love the intro and outro! 😂
some times spending more saves you in the long run. making that plug would save you a few hundred but like you said. in the time researching buying all the stuff you could be doing more useful stuff
If you don't want to scratch or damage your shop floor get a couple of sheets of plywood and make a road into your shop just have someone lay them in front of you when pulling in and behind when pulling out
What will happen in the summer when you take out the studs, go in gravel and stones get in the holes and work their way in the rubber or better yet in wet conditions when water acts as a lubricant for rocks to cut the rubber easier. I would have kept them without studs and just been more careful operating. Or maybe find and old set of tracks and keep those studded for the winter
I don’t get it. He talks like he is 12, but looks like he is 65!
I wonder if some horse stall mats would work to save the concrete in the loaders parking spot.
That's a fire proof kitty!
Two watches? One must be for east coast time, very practical. 😏
I didn't know Loctite made Christmas themed packaging.
love the studs brother good addition
What happened to the cabin build?
Coming soon, after the storm passes,
That wasn't a Wranglerstar rant! I want a Wranglerstar rant! Lol kidding. Hope those studs work out well for you. 👍🇺🇸🐍💪
As an Eagle Scout; Three years as a lift operator and five in the outdoor recreational industry.
I’ve learned you pay for it here, or you pay for it on the trail. Time is money and vise versa.
Of course you’ll be careful on you driveway and garage floor. Amazing how those little pins can grip the ground so well. Looking forward seeing them in action. Cheers 🦘🇦🇺
Putting the temp in the corner is interesting it's like 73 here in central Texas after the sun went down
Hey Cody, what's up with the low depth of field in your videos recently? It seems to be AI and not physical. What have you been using to film your videos? Same Canon? Did you add an effect in post?
It appears that you've used a consumer camera (not pro video like your Canon) or a phone with Lidar like the iPhone 13. It appears as though the rough proximity map created by the lidar has been used to apply a DOF (Depth Of Field) effect onto footage
If I was a betting man I would bet those with the ready complaints about studs are city folks. Their streets are cleared and salted even before the snow hits the ground. None of them have driven on an uncleared road after a thaw and freeze or an ice storm that left an inch or more of ice on every surface. I live in Western Newfoundland and studs are allowed from November first to May first.
