The snugpak poncho liner is the same material and quality with the added bonus of being wearable. It has arms and a hood so it can be used as a blanket and then worn as a great coat
I went through a snugpak phase a few years back. I bought a blanket for all of my kids and my wife. I just looked up the blankets I bought and the regular size was $24, XL $38, hamock quilt $33, the poncho liner $53 and the softie elite was $78. The prices are crazy now. I wore the poncho liner a couple times on hikes in the snow. The temp was in low 30's. I had to take it off because I was over heating. The thing is crazy warm. Great for sitting around but not hiking. I would still buy Snugpak products even at todays prices. Assuming the quality is the same. The hammock quilt and poncho are definitely my favorites.
I totally lucked out I found a brand new one at a rummage sale for 1 dollar and a snug pack ionosphere for 10 dollars. The gentleman bought them for his son for boy scouts and his son quit boy scouts and never used them. I almost felt guilty that I paid so little, but they wanted all their stuff gone and I was glad to take them off their hands.
I have had a Snugpak Blanket for about 8 years as well. I use it regularly, have never had to wash it yet and for certain, it keeps me comfortable even down to about 60 F - 16C . This allows me to sleep in my bedroom with just this blanket with the thermostat set to 60F which saves a lot on the heat=ing bill over the Winter.
Pretty much saved my life in Namibia last year.. I took a simple summer bag with me because a) Africa and b) who reads the instructions they send you. Turns out it gets Very close to Zero C/32F at night in the Namibian desert in a tent. I had brought the Snugpack blankets (1 regular 1 XL ) for chilly driving in open vehicles and as a pillow.. I had added some buttons to my XL across the bottom and 1/3 up the side.. Tucked my bag into this Snug-glove and slept like a baby.
I originally purchased one of these (xl) as a supplement to my mil-sur bivy, as my wool blanket was starting to get too cumbersome, and I wanted something lighter for backpacking and hunting. It is hands down one of my favorite pieces of gear. I love it so much I now have one in my suitcase for traveling, one in my car for all kinds of things like concerts, picnics etc, and also bought their sleeping bag version. For colder weather, using my bivy, bag and blanket combo has kept me warm into the 20's with minimal layers on (hat, wool socks, light gloves and base layers) I very glad you mentioned the current state of their business and the hit or miss quality, some of their stuff like the cold weather bags are quite pricey, and perhaps not worth the gamble when I know this blanket, when layered properly will do anything I need it too. Excellent review!
Bought my first Snugpak blanket right after that first review of yours. We keep one in every car and in camping gear as well. You are 100% correct in today's review. Thanks,
I have had one of these for many years as well and i completely agree with everything you said about this blanket. it is incredible. I have even used it on my bed at one point and simply added a wool blanket over the top and it kept me warm no problem.
I agree with everything you have said, living in florida it is the perfect blanket for a sleep system. I agree with your assessment of the weather ratings and rely on a wool blanket underneath to aide in warmth during colder weather. Durability is excellent. after seeing your initial review, I purchased mine for $39 on sale and have never needed to wash it in 7 years.
Thank you so much for your honesty about the blanket! Another reason why I love your channel! And bless your heart for looking out for the younger generation by gifting them a blanket, it will make a difference!!❤❤❤❤
I added press studs to mine so it could be fixed as a sleeping bag and a hammock under blanket. I've wild camped and hammock camped with mine, successfully down to about 8 degrees celcius on a thermal pad. Great product.
I love the jungle blanket. I team mine up with the Urpro waterproof blanket which is ideal for better temperature control as you can layer as required. For winter weather I add a down blanket.
I was issued a British army jungle sleeping bag/ poncho liner many years ago. Best versatile bit of kit. I now use it over my hammock netting rigde line, keeps the warmth in, in the winter months.
These blankets are awesome, been using them for years. I even just snagged two more in their new terrain camo which looks similar to multicam - it’s awesome!
i own the Snugpak Jungle Bag. Same thing as the Jungle Blanket but with a zip and a hood. Can zipped all open to become a blanket. I'm very pleased with it.
Spot on brother. I own both the bag & blanket but I find the blanket far more versatile. I gravitate more towards the bag because the mosquito net offers protection in environments where you only need a lightweight/Summer type bag
I have this product and been using it for two years now. Solo camping, motorcycle camping and family camping. Extremely good quality and very versatile. I have always been a massive fan of snugpak from when serving in the British army. Lots of the lads (including me) had their softie jacket and a few other items like sleeping bags etc - my jacket is still going strong 22 years later and sleeping bag is around the same age. That being said, I get your point about quality vs price recently with them. Seems to be since they broadened their product line that the quality has dipped.
I have got one on your advice. Still have it and it is as good as the day I bought it. Sure there are better blankets and lighter blankets but for the price you can’t beat it. Thanks wolf.
I bought one a few years back. I use it every night to sleep with. Perfect for summer camping. Lightweight for backpacking. Enough to keep you warm on any chilly or rainy summer camp days. Love it. Go buy one. It's money well spent.
My first experience with the GI Poncho Liner was in Vietnam. After discharge, I started a collection of the PL. One issue is they are kind of short for a tall guy, BUT my wife fell in love with them. We still use them as a top layer on our bed. OD green and black are better colors for most uses but we still use camo as well. I picked up a GI Artic poncho and liner in a tan color that are great because they are larger for Artic clothing but are much better for my size. Your product here is the legacy of the liner. Thanks for the review.
I have four of them, bought way back when you could still get them for $25 a piece. My experience has been similar, they have held up really well and are really handy. The only con I would add to this list: you really shouldn't store them long-term in the compression sack they come with and they are a tight fit when you want to get them back into the sack. But they do compress down to get very compact when you want to hike with them. I mainly use them as an extra layer with a warm weather bag. A cold weather bag in unexpectedly hot weather is almost as miserable as a warm weather bag in unexpectedly cold weather, and this thing buys you a lot of flexibility in your sleep system for not a lot of extra weight. You can sleep under just the jungle blanket on a warmer night, or in just the sleeping bag, or put it over the sleeping bag if things turn cold. Temps in the desert, the mountains and the shoulder seasons can be unpredictable, but this thing gives you the ability to adjust to whatever the reality in your tent turns out to be, within reason. They aren't for winter camping but I use them in the other three seasons.
I use the large version of this blanket as my main bed quilt. Have had it for 4 years, never had an issue with it. Very thin, very lightweight, comfy to sleep under every single day. I also have a regular sized blue one for summer tent camping; though as Luke stated, it does tend to run a little chilly on slightly cooler nights.
Awesome product I have had for many years myself. I would recommend the extra large size because it gives more room for most People. Recommendation 100% as well.
Bought one when you first reviewed them. It is on my bed right now! I use it as a topper on cool nights. My wife borrowed it once and wanted her own. This is a solid buy for anyone. I wish they came in king size.
The XL version is 91cm wide when doubled-over, as such, you can actually wrap it under and over you to trap more warmth, however, at that point, you may as well have bought an insulated sleeping bag.
I have had the jungle bag fo 20 years, I recently bought a left and right vesion in blue to make a double sleeping bag. CHeap, great aspets of jungle blanket and so much space.
I have used the jungle bag for the last 5-6 years. It has served as my woobie or light blanket in NC and AK. I keep saying I’m going to get the blanket. They are essentially the same but the bag when used as a blanket does have the zipper on the edge. It’s a great product and well worth it.
Hey TOGR, I've been watching your videos. They are great and the reviews are very informative. I love your Quiet Adventure channel as well. Saw this video of the blanket. I would LOVE one. Keep up the great job with the videos. Love your channels. God bless you
The Jungle Blanket has been my go-to for 3-season use for almost a decade. It's the closest thing to a woobie I've seen since leaving the military. I added snaps to mine to make a footbox on one end for use in my hammock (works on the ground too). I agree with Luke about durability. Mine is almost a decade old, and still looks new. I wash it maybe once or twice a year, and have never had issues with smells or anything (just do it to make my wife happy). I bought an ultralight synthetic quilt from Enlightened Equipment this past year and that has replace the JB ... but ... I gave my old JB to my son, who is in Army ROTC in college, and he loves it. I have so many friends and acquaintances who have seen mine, liked it, and bought one for themselves. Over the past 10 years, I've probably seen 2 dozen or more folks do that. Luke is 100% right about this blanket. It's awesome. Great for starting out and experienced bushcrafters, campers, and hikers. Great product.
I actually don't have something like this. I've a x-large wool blanket I've used for years I'm quite happy with. Sheds light rain, quite warm and of a good size (66 inch x 90 inch). Yes, it's probably heavier and needs a bit of maintenance, but it's been good to me.
I ended up going with the jungle bag. Still works great as a blanket and has the added advantage of being a sleeping bag too. The price difference isn't huge so if you're on a budget I personally would go with the bag. Everything true about the blanket is true about the bag. I've never taken it down below 50 as I prefer warmer Carinthia mummy bags but I doubt it's performance is much better than the blanket so keep that in mind. It also comes with a mosquito net but I've found it annoying to use during sleep but in certain cases I'm sure the bugs can be more annoying.
I love my Jungle Blanket. For cost, weight, and versatility, I don’t think there are many outdoor products that can compete. I bought a Jungle Blanket back in 2020 for around $38 on Amazon, and it has come with me on many backpacking trips. I sleep very warm, and have used it comfortably (with a good sleeping pad) down into the mid 40s. I love it, but I think Luke is spot on. For most folks, this will be good down into the 50s, but not lower.
Please make sure the girls' blankets are the same quality, even if they are from a different brand. Otherwise, they may be discouraged from camping by a bad gear experience. If they're not comparable, just get the girls the olive one. Most will appreciate a quality item they can use for years more than they'd appreciate a hot pink item that doesn't hold up. And great review as always, I'll probably end up getting one of these myself.
I was going to say this too. If they are the same quality then ok but if it’s just a color thing, don’t buy into the commercialization of being a girl. Good gear is better than the right color.
If they are the same brand and model then there will be no difference in quality @@kateq7212 if its a "girls brand then it will just be crap 😂.. shame really
I use the jungle bag and poncho liner, instead of the JB. Would agree with the temp ratings, I sleep fairly cold and at 10/11 degrees I wake up with the JB . I combine the two at camp after using the PL to sit around. Also now added a swagman roll as a double poncho and JB liner.. Maybe a little weird with all 3 but can take me into sub freezing temps and super versitile. Total is around 2.6kgs. Not that light but a good bushcraft setup.
I have had mine for 3 years now and I love it. It comes with me everywhere I go its a bit short for me (I'm 182cm) so I'm looking into buying the large version
I have one and love it. I use mine with my jungle bag. If I need more warmth I will shove my jungle blanket in my bag. I’m good in 30 degree weather. But I do wear thermals and wool soaks and I sleep like a baby.
I live in North Queensland Australia (tropical environment) and I have the XL Blanket which I use as my regular blanket all year round. In the dry season (winter) I couple it up with a sleeping bag liner and I am sweet. The temp range is usually at the min 10 degrees Celsius (50) which I use the sleeping liner with, through to 25 degrees Celsius (77). I love it and recommend it.
I just did an experiment with the XL Jungle blanket. I camped out under a USGI poncho set up as an A frame tarp. I am 6'1" and 260 pounds so I have a fair amount of natural insulation. I probably sleep more comfortably in cool temps than the average person. The temp got down in 37 degrees in North Florida where the humidity is always high. I wanted to see how well the Jungle Blanket would compare to the USGI poncho liner. I slept in my clothes, which consisted of blue jeans, cotton T shirt, lightweight fleece and light wool socks that I had worn all day. I slept on an insulated Big Agnes air mattress. When it got down to 40 degrees, my feet started to feel a little chilly and I had an occasional shiver. I pulled out my poncho liner and added it over the Jungle Blanket and was completely comfortable. My conclusion is that for me both the Jungle Blanket and the poncho liner are good to about 40 degrees if I have a tarp, air mattress and am wearing clothes. A light wool blanket does the same but is much, much bulkier and heavier. I agree with your opinion of the Jungle Blanket. I have gotten really good use out of it indoors and out. I highly recommend it.
This is a great idea! (I"d love it if you can remember the company for the girls. I'm the leader of a girls group) We take kids camping over the course of the year so it might be good to have something like this for ideas/etc. (And we're in Texas so most of our temps are warmer)
Looks pretty good, good size and a great price but the Rumple Nanoloft Flame blanket is perfect for backpacking. Very similar warmth to their down puffy, it's 30D ripstop nylon is coated with DWR, AND has fire resistant material on the face. Packs down to 3.5"x11 at 1.1lbs. And it's on sale right now at Backcountry. Can't beat it for a one person blanket.
I got a similar blanket but from the company Arcturus. It seem a bit cheaper on amazon than the Snugpak and you got 90'' x 90''. I think the quality of the fabric is roughly the same from both of the blankets. I love mine! Always in my car, use it anytime we go camping, at the beach, picnic, etc. Worth every canadian pesos I paid.
That's an awesome blanket. I'm approximately 6.4 in height. Thank you for sharing the information $40 looks like a reasonable price. Snugpak like the name, I will google it, see what's else they offer, and I'll be sure they know who gave me the scoop on snugpak
I also bought one of these, and i am very happy with the blanket. Ist just a great product. 😊 Bought it to use it in my Hammock or in addition to my Sleepingbag.
Cool product. Would make a good pickup truck bench seat cover too...I use a fleece one on my Ford Ranger and it keeps you warm, less wear on the seats. If you set down Indian style and had an emergency candle, with that wrapped around you, it could prevent a person from freezing to death. It would be great in the fall for taking to football games when it's cool outside.
I have the smaller one and I agree, the larger one would have been better. That said, great piece of kit, definitely to be used in conjunction with other coverings in colder weather. Very durable, similar to military poncho liner. But the USMC zippered poncho liner that can be converted into a light sleeping bag is, so far, the best I’ve found. I have 3 of those. Thanks Luke, great review of a great product.
I have 3 of the XL version. I absolutely love mine I no longer use a quilt on my bedding have aii the bedroom windows open all year round and sleep in just boxers. I've never been cold. I am a hot sleeper so can probably get away with it the way I do. I would recommend them without hesitation. BTW I live in the UK, it doesn't get massively cold here but it gets cold enough
Blankets like these, and poncho liners(woobies), paired with a good bivi sack can be used down to just above freezing. For myself anyway, I may have to pair it with a warming layer of some variety, nothing too heavy to be comfortable, but that’s something you are already taking if your low temps are right around 33-40ish. Thats my standard sleeping system when hiking and doing patrol ops and stuff
The snugpak poncho liner is the same material and quality with the added bonus of being wearable.
It has arms and a hood so it can be used as a blanket and then worn as a great coat
I love the fact you bought blankets for kids. That is noble.
“We purchase them a blanket.”
Awesome, investing in young peoples future outdoor experiences.
I went through a snugpak phase a few years back. I bought a blanket for all of my kids and my wife.
He does not make the blanket or have anything to do with production. Good idea tho. Perhaps email the company these thoughts
Yes, items made for girls are typically of poorer quality and more expensive. Give the girls the same item as the boys.

It comes with me everywhere I go
its a bit short for me (I'm 182cm) so I'm looking into buying the large version
I have one and love it. I use mine with my jungle bag. If I need more warmth I will shove my jungle blanket in my bag. I’m good in 30 degree weather. But I do wear thermals and wool soaks and I sleep like a baby.
Good review of another product I didn't know existed. Lightweight and seems great for warmer months of the year. Excellent
Best kit I have this blanket warm cosy in the 4 seasons I take it along when I am fishing
I've had the regular size for 8 years and bought the XL in camo from Britain this year. Love them both!
Thank you sharing your thoughts on this blanket and for being generous. This seems like the military “woobie”.
I have a Jungle Bag, and it's awesome. Perfect for summer/warm weather camping.
Thanks I’ll get a couple, it will be perfect for my down blanket from the hammock store here in my local area
I have a light weight nylon thermal blanket iv used many yrs its nice to have another layer when u need it .
I’ve owned 2 of these for years and they are great.
This is a great idea! (I"d love it if you can remember the company for the girls. I'm the leader of a girls group) We take kids camping over the course of the year so it might be good to have something like this for ideas/etc. (And we're in Texas so most of our temps are warmer)
I have two Jungle Bags and one Jungle Blanket....great summer gear!
That’s great. We can all make a difference
That's an awesome blanket. I'm approximately 6.4 in height. Thank you for sharing the information $40 looks like a reasonable price. Snugpak like the name, I will google it, see what's else they offer, and I'll be sure they know who gave me the scoop on snugpak
I own 3 of these and was just getting ready to purchase 2 more
I also bought one of these, and i am very happy with the blanket. Ist just a great product. 😊
Bought it to use it in my Hammock or in addition to my Sleepingbag.
I modified my jungle blanket by adding two drawcords and a few small loops, so i can use it as quilt and underquilt. I like it too very much. S&H
I believe that I just found my poncho liner replacement. I came back from Iraq in 2005 and I always sleep with a poncho liner or two.
I own the surplus version from the British and I agree it’s great. The new civilian versions snack sells has extra features like the stuff sack
I own 5 of them. One for me and 4 for my kids. It's a great blanket, get the XL version.
Ok. Ordered one last evening to use in my kayaking unexpected overnight kit.
Its Something Im Interested In Trying Thank You Luke❤
Blankets like these, and poncho liners(woobies), paired with a good bivi sack can be used down to just above freezing. For myself anyway, I may have to pair it with a warming layer of some variety, nothing too heavy to be comfortable, but that’s something you are already taking if your low temps are right around 33-40ish. Thats my standard sleeping system when hiking and doing patrol ops and stuff
