I have to agree with you the kits are brilliant. I have many of them now. I haven't a layout to put them on i just like building them. I do intend to put them on a layout as i have many locos and rolling stock. Love your videos keep them up fella
Looks great, Especially when lit up! A great tip there about keeping the resistor outside and easily changeable, I shall have to make sure I do that myself when I start on buildings and learn enough electrics :) Cheers, Michael
I've been watching lots of these construction videos for these kits, and I like the suggestion of using LEDs to light them. One thing I have noticed in all the videos is that no one followed Metcalfe's recommendation to paint the edges of the card or the folded corners to remove the white of the card.
The calculators online to calculate the resistor don't take into account the ambient and temperature rise. Most electronic components at rated up to 50 deg C at full capacity which is hotter that a cup of coffee to hold. To reduce the temperature rise change the resistor from 1/8 to 1/4 watt. Nice video, I am learning a lot about Metcalfe before I purchase
Hi Michael and very nicely done, I did this very similar on my shed too although I used different LED's but the principle was the same, you have done a cracking job of the building mate, excellent video. ...........Graham
I have been learning a lot from you especially relating to lighting and have implimented some ideas, in lighting my metclaffe models that I obtained ready made.. I will mentuion New ones will use your ideas as I build. I hope that you do more very soon. I have subscribed and look forward to seeing more. All the best from Paul at No Name Junction. I will mention you in my next channel update...
to add i made a longer shed with two kits.(if you have room to do so) works well with two outside workmen/driver sheds one at each end or one on either side, depending on room two tracks can be fitted as well
i reinforce with plastic plain card for extra strength,on all ,Metcalfe Models (just a ideal)and use clear film to stop fading which occure's via sunlight
Hi, Very nice, well put together, video. Have you thought of using a 1K Potentiometer, which you can wire all LED's to it to control the brightness/power to the LED's rather than normal resistors? You could wire the lights to the Potentiometer back to your control board or have the Potentiometer local to the buildings...Simon
I think the problem would be that, using 12 volts, I am limited to 4 LED's in each group and so would need a lot of potentiometers to cover the whole layout, so probably not worth the cost. But it will be worth doing for one or two, so the lights could be dimmed, creating a nice effect - thanks for the suggestion!
I'm currently working on fitting the rest of the point motors and will then probably install the turntable. Be another video soon. Thanks for your comments.
Great video, I'm thinking of getting this kit myself. However one thing is holding me back, The width of the entrance to the shed. I have two roads going into the shed, but they are a non-standard size. Can I ask please what the measurements are for the entrance to the shed? Thanks.
that looks amazing :) im jelious :) you should start your own business selling them :), know im doing electronics I GCSE and they have not told us about a resistor benig able to explode
Thank you for the video it helps me with my recovery from my brain tumour and stroke as this helps me to get back to my modelling
Glad to be of service 😊
I’ve just bought one of these and it’s my first go at Metcalfe. Thanks for the great tips.
Great video. Concise, no waffle or repetition. Instructive and useful. keep making videos.

That image on the back reminds me of a RWS Tidmouth route on Trainz
A very built and i am impressed with the lighting. Keep up the good work. Martin (Thailand)
Just a suggestion for further interior details a set of firebuckets
Shapways supply 3d printed tool bench and tools
I enjoy the lighting demo
Love the lighting, and the clock!

That is something I might get round to doing when I complete detailing on each section...

Excellent video... Wish we had Metcalfe Models here in the US...
Very nice kit and well executed. Nice detailing as well. Thanks for sharing this. Regards, Solomon

It is definitely best to put the lighting in before or while you're building it. Nice job of it. Rob

Very nice job - must do the same for mine!
Hi nice work, can I ask how did you get the orange glow from your LEDs in the shed
These LEDs are yellow and available in various colours.
Thank-you!

Great videos and being as I'm completely new to this hobby I'm learning a lot of useful information ,have you any pictures of your layout as it is now
I'm currently working on fitting the rest of the point motors and will then probably install the turntable. Be another video soon. Thanks for your comments.
Yeah @moorway south get some more vids up

Hi Ross. It is 10.2 cm, which is just enough for standard Hornby and Peco OO gauge twin track separation.
Please where can you get the led strips now Maplins have closed?
Rapid Electronics is a good source for everything. Also, you get get lots of model railway electronics on Amazon and Ebay.
What gauge of wire are you using within the card construction?
the roll says 'tinned copper 26' so presumably 26 gauge - I have had it for over 35 years!
Where do you buy your LED's and what are they described as. Thanks
Rapid Electronics online. 3mm Kingbright LED's.
Does Metcalfe ship to the USA?
No, but 'model railway imports' sells their kits in the US
