If you don't know how to cancel slash, then you clearly completed every DMC mission with Rank S on Normal or Hard difficulty, but not in DMD.

If you lock on and press shoot while slashing, it produces the same effect. You'll know you did it right because he draws his guns instead of slashing the third time
