Hi everyone, so as you can tell, this is a re-upload of yesterday's video. Turns out the original version was too hot for youtube, so I had to make some re-edits. Sorry about that >_>
3:36 'Dragão Brasil' was not the Brazilian version of 'Dragon Magazine', altough it was an RPG magazine. 'Dragon Magazine' also ran an official licensed version in Brazil, with that very same name, for 14 issues. 'Dragão Brasil', created by Cassaro, had a much longer run, and it is still running digitally.
i really liked that art style since it was closer to anime like dragonball than american cartoons and their rpg had archetypes inspired by tokusatsu and anime, it was called Defenders of Tokyo
It looks like a mishmash of early 00's X-Men artists. Mostly Joe Madureira. Joe Mad could do quiet moments just as well as action ones though. One of the best issues of the Onslaught crossover is just the team having breakfast in the partly ruined school in the aftermath of the storyline.
Just to clarify, no, at that point it wasn't official that Noob Saibot was Bi-Han. That was, at best, a fan theory that only became canon in MK Deception
Always thought that Mortal Kombat actually looks better when it's done in this kind of Western stylization or hyper-stylization rather than the realism they have gone after so often. I think the art style in this one is amazing.
Knowing my favourite fighting game having a weird comic series made in a foreign country is also connected to one of the most memorable runs of DC history os crazy adding this to comic book lore
I'm surprised with how much of the two other Brazilian comics(the infamous Mega Man and the oddly decent Street Fighter) you covered made what could best described as a good take on MK4. great video and it just makes me want to learn of the other comic titles Brazil did along with your vids on game titles both of bootlegs and official plus what comes out of the new titles for past consoles like Genesis
@@st1ka I dont know if it is was exclusive here but I got a 4 issue comic for Tomb Raider I think it was by Image comics it came with a famous gaming magazine. Also can you make a Brazillian game comic compilation video in the future?
We were amateurs back then, not only many just rip-off trending artists, like Mcfarlane and Liefield, but sometimes we simply copy entire pannels from them. Dark, but funny times to be an artist here! And, no, I didn't draw for any of those comics, but was part of the manga scene of the time.
About Noob Saibot, by the time of MK4 it wasn't estabilished that he was Bi-Han, his story and motivations were unclear, except for the fact that he was one of the Brotherhood of Shadows. In MK Trilogy we can even see Kuai Liang, Noob Saibot and the masked Sub Zero, supposed to be Bi Han (they didn't have that names either). This was only revelead in Deception, and further details came on the reboot. As a Brazilian kid I thought the artwork pretty weird back then, but it was Mortal Kombat, so I enjoyed it a lot. And I couldn't complain about the art on Tanya's backstory, it was pretty... Interesting, let's say.
It's clear to me that they went through the home port with a fine-toothed comb for content- probably with a Strategy Guide or list of codes fresh from the printer. Not only does it feature Goro (who was an exclusive sub-boss), but secret characters like Noob Saibot, KItana, and even friggin' Meat make appearances in this comic. Which, coming after the Street Fighter and MegaMan writers that didn't take know anything about the games (and the latter didn't WANT to), it feels like a cool change of pace.
I am a brazilian, and I collected the Dragão Brasil's magazine, and it was so, so cool for us. It had a lot of cool stuff, and by chance of fate, I had one of the writers as a friend, ways after the magazine ended
Ah yes I remember those. The comics were full of untamed, unsupervised horny nerd energy (as pretty much everything in the 90s). They were violent, they were wild, they were heavily sexualised... And they were awesome!
So Brazil just have it's own version of everything? I keep hearing about how SEGA games on the master system are still popular there even today, but that can't be true right?
Basically, the master system is to Brazil what the NES is to America. The difference is they keep making new master system models and they keep selling. Similar to how the nes mini sold well in the US
Today, not much. But yeah, the Master System and the PS2 were extremelly popular here. We also have a lot of pirate, bootleg games in both platforms. There is a edited version of PES called Bomba Patch, that was more popular than PES or FIFA for a while.
7:12 You probably already know this since i saw you hearted other comments saying it, but i just wanted to explain it a bit more detail. In the original Brazillian Portuguese dialogue, Jarek calls Jax a "Negão", which basically translates to "Big black man/dude" in Portuguese, and its in no way meant to be a racial slur here in Brazil, and its mostly used to refer to well, big black dudes, it's just the augmentative version of the word "Negro" (which is also not a racial slur here in Brazil and in most South American Countries). I imagine that translator was not really being edgy, i think that he must have thought that since "Negro" can be used as a racial slur in the USA, "Negão" would probably mean something like the N-word, or at least that would be my guess... or maybe he was really being Edgy and thought this was an opportunity for that, idk... Great video btw, much love from Brazil 👍

Hey dude! Great video! I remember that comic, I'm from Brazil, in fact I'll try to find those in portuguese to check out the lines. Also, this kind of art (the distortion and, textures, woman and stuff) I guess Fabiano was on the 90's hype, which we can check out A LOT of arts, even Jim Lee's on X-Men, also, Gen 13, Wildcats, and, as you even mentioned, McFarlane's Image Spawn and his previous Spidey arts.

What is interesting about the MK4 comic is that all that edgyness and violence from the Megaman and SF comics fit a lot better with an already edgy and bloody franchise like Mortal Kombat.
Well, time to comment again to please the finicky RUclips Algorithm. Of course, St1ka, it was a pleasure to watch this again though - your recent videos on weird video game comics has been super entertaining! I know there's been weird video game comics forever (Valiant Comics did the "Nintendo Comics System" briefly in the 'States back in the day - everything was a "System" with them for awhile, like the "Nintendo Cereal System" being the official name for the OG Nintendo cereal), but Brazil's take on things is really interesting! Do they have their own Sonic comics? At any rate, I really do love the art in this. It may look odd in places, but overall, it definitely reminds me of Joe "JoeMad" Madureira's stuff (Darksiders, Battle Chasers) and Adam Warren's stuff (the American Dirty Pair comics, a TON of art for PSM: Playstation Magazine here in the 'States back in the day), as well as Image Comics' output like you pointed out. It just looks cool, and while the storytelling suffers from myriad issues, yeah I think I'll take a look at this series! Thanks for mentioning that "Victory" series by the same artist too; I went and hunted down the 4 issues of that via NewKadia and MyComicShop and ordered 'em. Looking forward to seeing what that's about too! I love discovering stuff like this. Keep up the great work, St1ka! Your videos are pretty much always awesome!
You point out the art being odd, but the art seems pretty “'90s knockoff Joe Mad” to me. If this comic is coming post-MK4, is might also be coming post Madureira’s PSM covers too.
This comic was cool. The people who produced it still work with comics and RPGs today (and are successful at it). In addition to this comic, the Mortal Kombat RPG was launched with rules and a ready-made adventure. They made the same type of product with Megaman, Street Fighter and Final Fight.
Very cool comic! i wish i had the chance to read this stuff back then when Malibu comics stoped producing it´s MK comics, I can see clearly that Eduardo Francisco the main artist was fan of John Madureira´s work, because his style looks alot like the material Madureira produced in his series "battle chasers"
But sending Quan Chi to Netherrealm, doesn't the guy practically live there nowadays? When he's alive, weirdly enough. When he's dead he's NOT on Netherrealm, I think.
@@st1ka Obrigado amigo!!! I'll read them tonight, I now want to get the real comics paper copies, if you see them on ebay or something please let me know. you could talk about ''el cazador de aventuras'' wich was an argentinian adult dark humor comic featuring copyrighted characters from marvel, dc, dragon ball, star wars, etc. it was very popular in the 90s and was released in brazil as well. they recently made a movie adaptation wich features deadpool and wolverine. the comic was made by ariel olivetti, mauro cascioli and jorge lucas, they all work at marvel and dc nowadays, the art in the comics is excellent but the stories are... something else.
If Rob Liefeld had drawn these, nobody would have feet and everyone would be disproportioned. Although I do see a lot of disproportion in these so maybe he was doing art direction. But they have feet. 🤣😂
@@st1ka Well sadly he passed away a while ago. He was a Mexican comic book artist, did what is considered the most succesful comic book in the Mexican industry Metorix 5.9, and had a sexy female character similar to that Sonya. Then again, that quasi anime style was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s in México, and perhaps Latín América seeing this comic now.

To be fair... Reptile has always had the shortest end of the stick all the way through the MK series... This comic just seems like its continuing that tradition.
The artist was clearly trying to emulate Joe Madureira's style, which makes since at the time Joe Mad was the hottest up-and-coming artist in the business.
I probably am the only guy who liked Kai a little more than Jarek because he was supposed to be another White Lotus member that would be next to hold up as Champion but i guess that never happened haha...But I still would like them to return,
This one seems kinda cool and think the Todd McFarlane works best with Mortal Kombat. Id actually would love to see a new Mortal Kombat comic now that Mortal Kombat is more story heavy and kinds embraces the violence and darker style.
Huge props to the brazilin team. You can tell they respect the lore and game series. The stick figure fatalities(15:19) are probably the result of budget cuts. That being said, I agree Tanya was handled poorly. Tanya could have jumped Kai after he defeats the undead mooks. Eventually, Tanya knocks Kai into huge fan blade. Tanya picks up a win and Kai dies with dignity.
Wonder if one day you will cove Holy Avenger, the comic book created by many of the main people... That you already know, in an original story that ended up as an RPG background world.

I, too, greatly enjoyed MK Mythologies Sub Zero back on the PS1 during it's hey day. I rented it over a weekend, I believe, to beat the game.
@@jonathanlisowski5618 MK mythologies sub zero was actually my first PS1 game :P
Man I LOVE THIS ATSTYLE!!! It's so cool and dynamic, looks like the proportions are being exagerated on pourpose!!!
Also, Salve form Brazil!!!
sim o HQ é bastante bom :D
DUDE THIS VID MADE ME SO HAPPY HAHAH
i'm such a big fan of Erica Awano!!! I had no idea her work was here as well, when I was a kid, her Holy Avenger illustrations were such a huge inspiration, like omg....
She's truly a legend
Haha glad I could help!
Do you have any links to the MegaMan and street fighter roleplaying guides that seemed super interesting and I would love to take a look.
Sure I'll send you in a bit gimme a few minutes ^^
Thanks
Do you have a discord ? I would love to see scans of all these weird material you display on the channel, the content is basically abandonware at this point but is impossible to find to us outside of Brazil that didnt buy it at the time.
here you go my dude. I have a link for the comic book on the announcement channel: discord.gg/zuN9dZr3
@@st1ka thanks I will give it a look
Am glad I saw the original first yesterday
Sorry :(
15:35 Noob being the first Sub-Zero wasn't established until one of the later games that came out _after_ MK4.
That DBZ Abridged Chiaotzu clip freakn sent me, lmfao!
haha
Marcelo Cassaro and Erica Awano worked together in another comic book series called "Holy Avenger". It was really good.
yep, I've checked the art, it's awesome! :D
Hey dude! Great video! I remember that comic, I'm from Brazil, in fact I'll try to find those in portuguese to check out the lines. Also, this kind of art (the distortion and, textures, woman and stuff) I guess Fabiano was on the 90's hype, which we can check out A LOT of arts, even Jim Lee's on X-Men, also, Gen 13, Wildcats, and, as you even mentioned, McFarlane's Image Spawn and his previous Spidey arts.
sounds good! :D
Where can I find that "are you coming?" Clip? It's hilarious out of context.
OMG, yes, i live in Uruguay next to brazil, and we got a magazine called "Top Kids" that had video game related things, and it had this comic in spanish, it was pretty weird yeah. I remember the magazine came with MK action figures and fatalities and those stuff. I had like 10 years or so
damn I want those MK action figures
@@st1ka they were so so bootleg omg , i still have the goro and the kintaro on display on mi living room haha. Just look for "top kids mortal kombat figures". Danm this brought too many memories
@@jitox haha I just googled them. those are some janky-ass action figures haha
Wow what was "offensive" this time?
no idea. YT doesn't tell you what it doesn't like. It only says the video is bad.
@@st1ka still baffles me how it works. There is so much degenerative content allowed its crazy. But talking about history and origins of games... St1ka you bad boy! 😂
what can I say. We gotta navigate through the tricky waters that is RUclips whether we like it or not lol
Not gonna lie, the panel of Kai's severed hand given the middle finger, sayin "STILL, FATALITY" is way beyond awesome. So metal.
Haha agreed
What is interesting about the MK4 comic is that all that edgyness and violence from the Megaman and SF comics fit a lot better with an already edgy and bloody franchise like Mortal Kombat.
yep very true
What did they have a problem with? Video seemed fine to me
no idea. RUclips doesn't tell you what's wrong with it. So you just have to guess.
Thanks man! I really appreciate it ^^
Good vid👍 Honestly the mortal kombat lore baffles me. Bit like youtube censorship policies lol
Haha
You point out the art being odd, but the art seems pretty “'90s knockoff Joe Mad” to me. If this comic is coming post-MK4, is might also be coming post Madureira’s PSM covers too.
that's a good point!
That's a great idea, we always love when a nom Brazilian speak about us.
I am Portuguese though, so it's pretty close ^^
Justice for st1ka!!!
Justice for all 👍
thank you! ^^
@@Retro_Royal haha thank you I appreciate it
This comic was cool. The people who produced it still work with comics and RPGs today (and are successful at it). In addition to this comic, the Mortal Kombat RPG was launched with rules and a ready-made adventure. They made the same type of product with Megaman, Street Fighter and Final Fight.
Holy crap! I know Joe Prado (the artist who did the Tanya side story) and took some art lessons from him. I should ask about this.
Aaah thank you!
Thanks again for sharing 😊
Anytime:D
Haha :D
But sending Quan Chi to Netherrealm, doesn't the guy practically live there nowadays? When he's alive, weirdly enough. When he's dead he's NOT on Netherrealm, I think.
Yeah that's a good point actually
Do you have the original version of this video uploaded elsewhere? The video that was first rejected by RUclips
It's on my patreon. But honestly there's no major difference. Only a few seconds got cut
Where can I get these comics? That's not a rhetorical question, I really want to know.

Could you also give me the link for the Street Fighter ones as well please? If you have them in English or Spanish (preferably in English) that would be awesome.
Thanks again bro!!
@@Kypduron1 the street Fighter 2 one? That one is only in Portuguese and was hell to find. I know I left link on the pinned comment conversation of the street Fighter video.
If you mean the Alpha 3 comic, no idea I haven't started researching it yet
@@st1ka Ok bro, I'll search now for it, thanks for responding dude!!
you could talk about ''el cazador de aventuras'' wich was an argentinian adult dark humor comic featuring copyrighted characters from marvel, dc, dragon ball, star wars, etc. it was very popular in the 90s and was released in brazil as well. they recently made a movie adaptation wich features deadpool and wolverine. the comic was made by ariel olivetti, mauro cascioli and jorge lucas, they all work at marvel and dc nowadays, the art in the comics is excellent but the stories are... something else.
oooh thank you for the tip. I'll check it out
Can you imagine if we got a Brazilian King of Fighters comics? Imagine the weird shit that it could have!
Imagine a Brazilian Dead or Alive comic series 😏
If Rob Liefeld had drawn these, nobody would have feet and everyone would be disproportioned. Although I do see a lot of disproportion in these so maybe he was doing art direction. But they have feet. 🤣😂
Haha poor Rob
Did Rob Liefeld work on that Mortal Kombat comic?
I wish I could find some of these for my graphic novel collection, I did buy some volumes of that victory comic, that looks awesome.
You could try a website called mercado livre in Brazil
@@st1ka cheers! It's great that these have been preserved. They are a very interesting corner of the videogame industry.
@@mechabroski9993 Indeed, i just wish they were better known
The way Sonya is designed, reminds me of the art of Jorge Break.
Oh I can't say I'm familiar with him
@@st1ka Well sadly he passed away a while ago.
Aaah I see
U earned a sub. Can u share the comic or where i can find it? I really want to read it

I wonder did you altered the video's timeline or just censored images and words.
Censored images and words but also removed about a full minute of video
It's a crime that they didn't have a designated girl fight between sonya and tanya with this art style
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
To be fair... Reptile has always had the shortest end of the stick all the way through the MK series... This comic just seems like its continuing that tradition.
yeah that's a good point
These were ripped and posted by Tabmok99. He made a video how he acquired these. The translations are done by him so they are accurate
The artist was clearly trying to emulate Joe Madureira's style, which makes since at the time Joe Mad was the hottest up-and-coming artist in the business.
Ah thanks for that. I'm not a comic book expert so I wasn't sure ^^
I knew the style look familiar. I loved his work with PSM
I probably am the only guy who liked Kai a little more than Jarek because he was supposed to be another White Lotus member that would be next to hold up as Champion but i guess that never happened haha...But I still would like them to return,
Yeah, MK4 introduced a lot of characters that were simply brushed aside. At least it gave us Quan-chi and Fujin though.
Thanks St1ka,you are my fuck-ing hero, brutal and badass art of the comics of Brazil, you have my Like 👍.keep you good work and awesome information.👍😃
haha thank you I try :D
Loved the Dragon Ball Z Abridged reference! =)
Haha thank you! The original version had more references
This one seems kinda cool and think the Todd McFarlane works best with Mortal Kombat. Id actually would love to see a new Mortal Kombat comic now that Mortal Kombat is more story heavy and kinds embraces the violence and darker style.
yeah it was pretty cool! :D
Yeah I'm pretty sure the stick figures bit was the result of a tight deadline:/
This is so cool dude.
right?! :D
Isn't Mortal Kombat already, Lewd Violent and Gory though...?
I would say this goes a bit above and beyond :P
Wonder if one day you will cove Holy Avenger, the comic book created by many of the main people... That you already know, in an original story that ended up as an RPG background world.
I wasn't thinking of covering them because they're not gaming related, but who knows? Maybe I will?
Is it just me or did some of the art get put in GamePro and Tips & Tricks magazines? The art looks familiar.
Maybe? No idea
Gamepro and Tips & Tricks oh the memories
Yesss... Another weird AF Brazilian comic. Keep em comin 🙏👍
haha glad you enjoyed it
Great video as always st1ka, was not expecting an appearance by team four star
what did you have to cut to re-upload?
About a minute of content tbh. More Team four star references, the slur dialogue and a few other things
they made you cut stuff thats on 4stars youtube?… weird
to be fair, TFS had tons of issues with youtube back in the day and truth be told, youtube has gotten more restrictive since then
fair enough, are you youtube only or is the uncut video available somewhere?
@@tylerd4884 Right now I only have it on my patreon and discord server. Once this video dies down, I'll try sharing the original version again. I don't want to do it now for fear that drawing too much attention to it will have RUclips take action against me again.
Fala mano tudo fixe?

Brazil's video game comic scene seems pretty wild :D
It definitely was :D
10:14 while sub-zero did defeat the 4 elemental gods mythology, they naturally came back to life. But shinnok and his forces permanently ended 3 of them. Fujin is the fourth member.
Yep, I used to love MK mythologies
From all these brazilian comics my favorite is still the Street Fighter one.
hehe understandable
Those neatherrealm hoards look like the masked guards in the mortal kombat movie
Oh yeah I never thought about that. That's yet another reference to the movie it seems
What the? I've been living here since i was born but never heard of those comics lmaoo
hehe now you have :P
Now I'm curious if there is a brazilian SNK comic 👀
Not as far as I know. >_>
