I have to say my life has changed once I started using tretinoin. I went through purging and I started to get discouraged but yes I agree that all of these products are great to help with using it. I love the Stratia Liquid gold, thanks to you. Also one of my all time faves is the Skinfood royal honey propolis serum. The Krave Beauty Great barrier relief is amazing and I have other products that I cannot be without and helped me through my journey. ❤️
I stopped everything harsh until my moisture barrier had healed. All chemical exfoliation and yes even my Courology. To see which things were irritating the barrier I added one thing with low percentages in of the active. BHA was the cooperate. Thank you for your time and hard work. Keep the knowledge coming. So interesting.
@@RandyandCyndi that’s a great idea. I need to just let my skin calm down and stop using retinol for a little bit and let my skin get healthy as well. T
Great tips! Looking back at my tretinoin journey what really helped my are those no-frills product. Tret, as it is, is just so potent that you can't really risk adding so much active ingredients. I kept it simple. For hydration, what worked for me is the Innisfree green tea seed serum. And for moisturizing I had The Ordinary NMF+HA.
Thank you for this Kelly! Im using Granactive Retinoid by the ordinary now and am definitely in the adjustment phase. This is so helpful! You are a great content creator and inspiration for me and my channel. Very diplomatic and positive 😊👍
loved this video! wish I could have seen this before putting in a huge yesstyle haul yesterday, but at least now I have a list of things to buy next time I shop! With summer coming up, can you do a video on sunscreens you've loved over the years? Both hits and misses?
I am so happy you put this up. You’ve given me some terrific options to consider, I totally agree that Mugwort is a fabulous companion on the journey. Ive been appreciating the Missha Artemisia essence. You’re right about finding the right sunscreen it is some quest indeed. I’ll think about bringing in some of the supporting products, like Propolis I’ve been interested in trying. The whole Tretinoin thing is such a journey, one I thought may be a walk in the park, as I didn’t have any big reaction, in the first minute and a half, well, I have had a process, am still in process. So appreciate this video and looking forward to the next instalment with eager anticipation.
I began by using tret at 0.05% from the first day, I did not do it gradually so you can imagine the irritation I had to fight. XD Products that have helped me: * for daytime in order of use: LRP hydrating cleanser or bioderma sensibio micellar water, cerave cream, innisfree ato soothing sun stick. * for nightime: bioderma micellar water to clean all the accumulated sunscreen from the day, a first thick layer of cerave, wait 15 mins to dry, then apply my 0.05% tretinoin, then apply a second thick layer of cerave cream. Then go to sleep. i hope it helps :)
The Laneige cream skin really helped as did the Illyoon cream on my tretinoin journey. I've been using it since September and I use 0.05% six nights a week (the seventh i use an acid). I also used niacinamide in conjuction at 10% for redness etc which i think did help. Even with my supr dry/eczema prone skin I had purging - 2 spots having never had a pimple for years lol. I believe it is worth it and am noticing changes on my skin - it feels more dense, smoother, improved texture and pores and wrinkles look better too. A real win. Be well and best wishes.
Great video! Can you do a moisture barrier friendly skincare routine for acne prone skin? I always end up using too many anti acne products to reduce existing pimples followed by actives to get rid of the marks. I know what I'm doing wrong but can't seem to get the right balance 😔. Your help would be highly appreciated!! ❤️
Very informative video, support products are so important when it comes to incorporating tretionin. But honestly, my routine is so simple now when I'm using tret. I love the I'm from Honey mask - it's doing wonders for my skin too.
Thanks for your video! Have you ever used clindamycin for acne, because I am used that and Tretinoin prescription. I just got the Purito for my night routine.
Love to see this video about tretinoin journey and products that help redness and irritation. You truly tell actual problems and their solutions. Please keep update when you find redness and irritation saver product more.
If Gothamista is like western skincare enthusiast, you are like korean skincare enthusiast. Loving every single video of urs. And my wallet is crying now. I'm holding myself from over purchasing until I finish my current skincare items. I hope maybe u can do a video on. Ur ride or die skincare products or 'this is all you need' kinda video. Hope to hear from u
Love Curology! I think you inspired me to try them (rather you sold me on it after deliberating months on it.) I’m tretinoin 0.01% niacinimide 4% and azaleic acid 2% and I’m absolutely loving the results: I have had some irritation and using new products along side the combo is not a great idea but I have no self control lol. Krave GBR is nice and just tons of moisturizer. I’ve found allowing my toners and essences to completely dry before applying my curology helps me have less irritation, followed up with a nice moisturizer. Also thank you so much for reviewing/recommending the vitab5 toner, I’m so in love with it! Love your videos and thank you!
Nice! That's my RX currently too! I'm thinking it might be time to bump up the tret soon but still really happy with my results so far! It's the second time around that I've used them and just really happy for the service!
Kelly Driscoll I thought about bumping up mine too, next month given I have no extra irritation but I seem to be tolerating this well so far. I’ve heard different opinions saying that a higher dosage isn’t necessarily more effective but I can’t help but feel that it would be. I’m trying to remind myself to play with all of my other skincare products but the retinol is a long haul product meant to be used basically forever lol so I think I wanna set a goal of staying low for about 6 months.
Jenny I just started the same cocktail this week. Did you start using it every other night or just jump right in to nightly? I feel like if I do e/o it will allow nights for me to use other products down the road but I’m not sure if I should wait to do that until I’ve been on curology daily for a while.
Michelle Troop I think I tried to do it nightly but found I needed to skip a night here and there while my skin was adjusting to it. I have a little irritation but not too bad. I find that using my toner and essence, allowing them to completely dry, then I use the curology mix, allow that to dry, and then follow with my moisturizer. It was a learning curve and went against everything in me to allow my products to dry between layers but I found that really cut down the irritation to the point that I can use it nightly. I also had to skip my vitamin c serum some mornings when I started the tretinoin, it was just too much. After a month I can now use both most days as long as they’re not in the same routine but I do take days off if my skin is not happy lol. I say try e/o night the first week and see how it goes!
I'm just using the over the counter retinols by the ordinary, started out at 0.2% retinol to see how it goes, but it certainly dries my skin. This is the video I've been waiting for as I've been really struggling to hydrate my skin, as I recently started alternating retinol with 20% vitamin. I was already dry before, so am in dire need of moisture and hydration. Awesome video, thank you :)
I got vitamin A cream from my doctor against the homonal acne I get that time of the month, because it lasts the rest of the month, then my skin it's acne free for 4 days, then it's that time of the month again, so ..... I got dry and very sensitive Lupus disease skin, so it's definitely a weird skin combo, I an using the etude house 2x barrier intensive cream you showed in a video, and it works greatly in the summer time for me, but still looking for a winter cream, that is thick enough but doesn't bother my hormonal acne. Thank you for showing me my favorite summer face cream. 🙏💚💚💚 Stay safe and take care.
Great recommendations! Thank you! On another note, I see the Isntree Green toner behind you. You previously recommended the Benton green toner. Which one do you like better?
This video is so helpful as I am starting tret! Sorry if I missed it but do you apply your toners before the tret and then apply the rest of your skin care products?
So glad you did this video. I myself have been on and off tretinoin, and I've definitely had major irritation and dryness when I first started using it and applying it every day. Nowadays, I've been sticking to applying it 2x a week and will soon up the frequency to 3 times next week or the week after. I would think it's fine to use other anti aging skincare right? Also, I see Isntree's Spot Saver Mugwort Ampoule... how do you like it? Would you recommend it alongside it with the other mugwort products you've used? How does it compare?
Thank you for this video! Still really struggling keeping my skin moisturized while using tret. >.< I peel like crazy whenever i wear makeup. Have you tried any of the zeroid moisturizers? I wonder how they compare to the stratia liquid gold & illiyoon.
With ceramides I always wonder wether a product contains enough for the ceramides to do anything. They are added as a blend, and all the individual components of this blend are always below 1% on ingredient lists, and since below 1% everything may be listed in random order... who knows wether it's actually doing anything, or wether you are paying extra for nothing.
Same thoughts here!!! Plus usually products only includes one type in their formulas. I´ve found only two affordable exceptions Cerave Facial Lotion PM (USA version) and Simply Pure Daily Serum (from Drugstore unfortunatelly not available online all over the world). If anyone know any other products that fills these requirements I would be happy to know about them!!!
I've been on accutane for 3 months now and my current moistrizer is not doing the job anymore (skin dry and very sensitive) and i'm scared thicker creams will break me out BUT I'M GONNA ORDER the illyoon cream and update after a month here!
Hi..i hope you can help me,i just wanna ask if i can use rovectin essential treatment lotion while i’am using differin?please..please help me🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😔😔😔
Hey Kelly! I was wondering if you've tried the Sidmool Galatokside Real Peptide Barrier Moisture Cream and the Sidmool Madagascar Real Moisture Cream (and if not, if you'd try them out). I am currently waiting for an HPR Serum Oil that looks promising and want to get used to retinoid family products until I'll use tretinoin in the future so this video comes in handy! It's really helpful for later on! Kind regards + loving your videos (!!), Annie
I'm about to start week 2 on retinol. This akward time we live right now gave the perfect time window to start it. I use the Ordinary retinol 1% in squalane. My retinol plan for week 1-2: 2 days in a week, 3-4: 3 days in a week...etc. I followed Cyrille Laurent's advise and reduced the products in my routine to very minimal: A hydrating toner, cream and spf. In the morning I wash with lukewarm water and pm double cleanse with an oil and a water based cleanser. (If I stay the whole day inside, I do nothing to my skin in the morning) I cheated a bit to use up my Pyunkang Yul essence toner, and I just use the cleansers I had even though they contain some fragrance. I wish they won't be too irritating in wash off form! I had cut out the Laneige cream skin refiner too, but is it safe to add back even during the retinol adaption period? After one week I think my T zone is a bit more oilier than usually but no change in my cheeks. The chin has developed some tiny non-inflamed breakouts. I started the Illiyoon cream and it's lovely! I followed the instruction in the retinol product and keep it in the fridge. I also refridgerated the other active containing products that are currently on hold until my skin is over the adaption period. It is so nice that I don't need to wear potentially irritating makeup for a while because there's no social interaction...💁🏼😬😄
This is actually a great time to start retinol especially if your skin peels! My mom just started back on vitamin C because with WFH she doesn't have to deal with makeup and flakey skin! I think Laneige CSR is awesome to help extra tret dryness but not necessary if you're not feeling the moisture loss.
do i apply first essences and hydrating toners before or after tretinoin? I have prescription strength tretinoin and i have been applying it immediately after cleansing? is that the best way to apply it?
Just to confirm, you apply toners and essences first, then the strata products (liquid gold + oil), THEN mix tret with moisturizer as the last step? I’ve always read that you should put tret on DRY skin to avoid irritation. I can see the essences and toners drying down, but what about the strata oil? I haven’t started tret yet but is thinking about doing it soon once my retinol runs out so I’m doing research on tret beforehand 😊
Hello I’m using Adapalene for few days already and I also use illiyoon as my moisturizer. What I do is the sandwich method which I use a thin layer of illiyoon before applying adapalene. I have a question, is the illiyoon cream too occlusive for adapalene? Im afraid that adapalene wont penetrate to my skin if I use illiyoon since its bit thick.
When my skin was still adjusting with tretinoin, I had to remove my salycilic acid soap and opt for a bland/moisturizing facial wash. I'd found that tretinoin alone is very irritating. No need to add another active ingredient as much as possible because tretinoin is very potent.
Halooo, new subscriber here. At 4:12 you mention that you are using watery toner and paired it with cosrx propolis toner. Would you mind tell us what watery toner you are using? Thank you 🧡
I´ve some nurse friends that suffers same problems atm so I did some research to help them. If you want my advice I would recommend you: a) be specially gently with your cleaning routine (avoid hot or cold water, use soft towels to dry your skin and use only gentle and hydrating cleansers) b) avoid any kind of exfoliation (maybe if the irritation is severe any kind of actives) c) use any kind of repairing balm (like: Uriage bariederm; bioderma cicabio pommade; La Roche Posay cicaplast; Eucerin Aquaphor) d) at night you could seal your face with petrolatum as the last step of your routine (great oclusive, gret price point, deedless product wich is actually reliable specially for sensitive skin). I got most of this info from @santamarina (Instagram account) who is a great spanish chemist. I hope your skin become better soon and thanks for your hard work atm!!!
I have a few of these products and I’ll be adding the rest based on your recommendation hehehe. But I’m curious to hear how do you use the stratia? Like in what step?
Win win retin a takes a while to adjust to it been using for years .Yes I'm finding the I'm from mugwort works wonders with my retin a just superb even the mugwort cream 🥰❤😘💯
Hi Kelly! I was wondering how long your curology bottle lasts you? Not sure if i should go for the large or small bottle given i'll only be using the formula 2x a week since i'm just starting tretinoin.
In my experience the 2 month bottle lasts for exactly two months and this is kind of a weird observation but even if I had left over product that I could use into month 3 it didn't seem as effective after 2 months (I'm sure the formula is only fresh and active for a certain time). So if you're only going to be using a few times a week I think you'll get more efficacy from your RX if you stick to monthly bottles (you can adjust the shipping date in your profile).
@@KellyDriscoll What serum will you recommend for acne prone/blemishes combo dehydrated skin? My pores and acne scar tend to look bigger with certain products.. I am actually thinking of pairing benton green tea with Numbuzin no 5+?Is that fine?
There's a bunch of stuff in here that could be useful for me after jumping up to 0.1% tret... and both Japan and Korea have stopped shipping products to my country. FML
Hey that’s not true everyone does not go through a purging process! I didn’t and several of my friends haven’t either. I think it just depends on your skin and all that
what part in your skincare routine do you add stratia liquid gold? is it a serum that you put on before toner and essence? BTW thank you for all you skincare recs I watch every video you put out and they are amazing.

How do you get tret from curology? They sent me something, but i don't think it has tret in it? Doesn't curology send lotion etc to go with it?
I'm in my 6th year of Tretinoin (the last 3 with Curology.) I started using Tretinoin when I was 27. It's been LIFE CHANGING ❤️
Halooo, new subscriber here. At 4:12 you mention that you are using watery toner and paired it with cosrx propolis toner. Would you mind tell us what watery toner you are using? Thank you 🧡
Just come back from your other vid. Is it lirikos calming pure water toner? 😸
Can I use tretinoin with snail bee essence?
What made you start to use tretinoin?
do you use the retin-a before the first treatment essence and hydrating toners?
Having stubborn breakouts from wearing mask. Please do tips on how to prevent it. Being a healthcare worker, it's not possible for me not to wear it
I´ve some nurse friends that suffers same problems atm so I did some research to help them.
@@enriquemp96 really appreciate tips, thank you so much!
This is really helpful since i’m trying to incorporate retinol in my routine.. thanks kelly 💜
I have a few of these products and I’ll be adding the rest based on your recommendation hehehe. But I’m curious to hear how do you use the stratia? Like in what step?
After serums and before moisturizer!
Win win retin a takes a while to adjust to it been using for years .Yes I'm finding the I'm from mugwort works wonders with my retin a just superb even the mugwort cream 🥰❤😘💯
I’m on Accutane. These would all be great for me as well, yeah?
Definitely would help manage the dryness!
Kelly Driscoll thank you so much!!!! ☺️
Do you use any AHA/BHA product?
Also , which method you use for removing makeup miceller water, balm or oil
Double cleanse, cleansing oil followed by cleansing foam!
Can i use benton green toner and torriden cica moisturiser with Retinol?
Be careful with the torriden because it contains exfoliants which might be too much with retinol. Benton toner is fine!
FML
Ahh, yes it's definitely a difficult time right now!
Can I use the Cosrx good morning low pH as my cleanser when in tretinoin? Thank you!
Yeah,why not?
Hey Kelly did you notice any facial fat loss since using tretinoin?
Hey that’s not true everyone does not go through a purging process! I didn’t and several of my friends haven’t either. I think it just depends on your skin and all that
what part in your skincare routine do you add stratia liquid gold? is it a serum that you put on before toner and essence? BTW thank you for all you skincare recs I watch every video you put out and they are amazing.
