Leonbergers are the best!!! I grew up with mine, he passed away at 15 years old. They are the most loyal, protective, sweetest, loving, and gentle giants ever!!
We Lost our 7.5 year old Leo, Liam on 1/28/21 very suddenly. Tonight has been the first time I have had the heart to watch vidoes on Leonbergers. Like your story, he was there for the birth of our 2 daughters, our wedding, our new life as a family. Watching your video on "the hardest part", we too experienced so many moments since his passing. Seeing the joy you have in Octavius gives me hope and joy for you and your family. Thank you for sharing such great stuff. I would love to know more about your breeder.
So sorry for your loss. 💔 Man do they ever leave a massive hole behind!! I still have moments that catch me off guard and leave me in tears, even though we are 8-9 months out from his passing now. Octavius is such a different personality which helped in the transition. It feels less like we “replaced” Monzie and more that we made room to expand our hearts. All the little signs after ended up being very comforting. I had forgotten that I did it but the day before Monzie left, we had groomed him. Head to toe a big family brushing. I took a bunch of his fur and put it in a container on the fence (right by the light) so the birds could use it. Cleaning up outside a bit this week and I found the ball of his fur. Killed me a little. Couldn’t deal with it in the moment. Still is pretty raw. Little O is a stubborn rascal who is always getting into something but he’s been a great addition to the family and I’m so glad (most days 😝) that he’s here. Both of our guys came from Cindy at Concorde Ridge Leonbergers. She’s in grimsby, Ontario.
😍😍😍 nearly all these pups have Instagram accounts too, I mean, I’m not a stalker ... but I definitely tracked down his siblings with stealthy cyber skills 😇 so many beautiful leo puppies to be had on Instagram 😍
I grew up with Leos, so theres a special place in my heart for them, but man, it's nice to be able to wear dark clothing haha. I get my leo fix visiting my parents lol. Not to mention how hard it is to only have them for a decade. The two I grew up with made it around 10 years. The oldest now is 8.5 and we got her when I was in 8th grade, so it'll be heartbreaking when she goes.
I’ve found it doesn’t stick to athletic clothing. When you wear athletic clothing, you become more active and more likely to go to the gym and work out “enclothed cognition”. So Leo’s are only looking out for our best interests by shedding all over us 😝 We learned all to much about the heartbreak this past year. Our Monzie left us very suddenly after just 5.5 years. It’s the reason we had room for a new puppy 💔
We lost our 9 year old St. Bernard Athena to bone cancer on April 20th this year. It was tough not being able to be with her on her final journey due to Covid. We started looking at Leonbergers figuring we would have time to heal before we actually got one. We contacted Disguise Dachshunds & Leonbergers in Wellandport hoping to get on a list for next year. It turned out that Mopsy and Schubie (from Concord Ridge) had a litter of 11 on February 29th so they had 5 more puppies than had been reserved. After the interview process we were told there was still a female pup available if we were interested. So 5 days after Athena left us we were driving 5 hours from the Ottawa Valley to Wellandport to get our girl Bella. She has helped us heal and given us a lot of laughs over the last 7 months.
Schubie was our Monzie’s dad! We lost Monzie suddenly in July. I never considered him passing at home to be a “blessing” in that he was home with family (even though we weren’t by his side), hadn’t considered that you can’t go in at vet appointments these days! I’m so sorry for your loss 💔 Schubie is Little O’s grandfather so we still have a partial relation to Monzie which means a lot to us.
They are well worth the wait. Their neediness, size & appetites make them a touch more high maintenance then other dogs. Getting them when actually ready is much better then rushing it 😘
Monzie was 13lbs when he came home and he averaged out at 140lbs at maturity. This guy, Octavius, was 21lbs when he came home... He just weighed in at the vet today at 30lbs... We're thinking he'll be more like 150lbs+
The only issue with me getting one is their lifespan is horrible and probably due to massive breeding as the wealthy do NOT give a shit about their dogs they just want to show them off so I will stick to rescuing dogs and helping them live to at least 15 plus and I've never lost any rescue under that age.I rescue BIG dogs as I love them more and these pups are so adorable who wouldn't want one ty for the video~
Our other pup is a husky lab MIX, so yes! Whether they will get along depends on the first or pre-existing dog and then how you introduce and socialize. Leonbergers get along with everyone if socialized well. It’s why they make such great therapy dogs. The only consistent trouble we’ve had with another breed is German shepherds.

15!!!??? How?! What is your secret. Your family is so incredibly blessed to have had such a run with him.

Do you think a Leonberger would get along with huskies?
