- What is Alexandrite? Alexandrite Stone Properties
Alexandrite is a stone that shows color transitions, turning blue-green in sunlight and red-purple in unnatural light such as candlelight. Alexandrites that have sharper color transitions and do not show a brownish color are more valuable. It is one of the rare stones in the world that has color transitions and changes color like Zultanite.
Alexandrite belongs to the beryl group, just like Emerald and Aquamarine. It is a member of the Chrysoberyl family, a subspecies of the Beryl group, showing color transitions. What makes Alexandrite unique is that it contains titanium, iron and chromium.
Since this deposit in the Ural Mountains was closed after being operated for a short time, the Alexandrites obtained from here are very rare and very valuable.
Today, they are mostly mined in Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Brazil, but those of Russian origin are the most valuable.
Alexandrite is useful in protecting against harmful rays due to its ability to filter cosmic rays. It is known that it is good for nervous system disorders. It helps in the treatment of pancreas and spleen disorders.
