I feel this on the other side of the transaction haha. I’m a dancer and I spend most of my time in sweats or something comfy when I’m not working, but I still make big purchases from time to time! A lot of the time salespeople are uninterested in helping me, probably because I’m so dressed down.

Anything surrounding Lamborghini the brand and the man who founded the company is about recognising humanity. I watched on the Lamborghini movie when he said "You don't have to be shy to drive a Lamborghini. You buy a Ferrari when you want to be someone. You buy a Lamborghini when you're someone." I guess based on the Ferrucio was judged by Enzo when he was a farmer making tractors is the reason you don't have to judge anyone who walks into a Lamborghini showroom because anyone can drive a Lamborghini unlike Ferraris where you have to be invited to buy one. Crazy.....

I was only 21 and in college when the GM of Toyota dealership hired me. I was his test crash dummy as he was trying something new with me as being young and lacking the salesman attitude and pushy sales, he wanted to give his customers the non stealership pressure sales experiences with a guy like myself. This was during the dot comer days and I was in the heart of the silicon valley. Since I was new, I had my learning curve so I practiced with basically anybody and even got scolded by other sales guy as I was talking it up with their customers. Lol
Long story short, it was around lunch time and a guy in shirts n sandals came into the floor. Other sales guys would just ignored him because in car sales, we called them jack as jack will waste your time and will not buy anything. They would push all them jacks to me, the new guy. Turns out, this guy was an executive of a tech company and he was buying 10 vehicles as a bonus package for his new hires. I became a dangerous sales guy thereafter and I took my selling skills to other industries and excel in those industries as well. Thank you GM Michael from Stevens Creek Toyota in San jose for believing in me.

      @marcning918 3 месяца назад +10

@@chrisconaway2549 I don't think you understood the first point. It means if you want to know someone's true character pay attention to how he treats people who can in no way help them meet their goals. If they treat everyone with the same amount of respect or not. My comment was more pointing out that people missed the context based on how little of the story is presented here. This was not an example of someone treating someone with the same level of respect as everyone else. It was an example of him using the failure of the staff to do so to get information he needed for his own purposes. He's a convicted con man and forger turned FBI informant who needed information about a man the woman he mentioned was hiding. He got that information by pretending to be a new hire working with her and getting a sale that required the salesman to let him in their computer system. Context the video leaves out because you don't see any of the setup. So people see the video as an example of treating someone with respect can get you things others miss instead of what's actually going on.

One of the first guys I met in car sales came in regular clothes, down to earth kind of guy and noticed he had a Rolex on, became friends and found out he owns a mansion in SoCal and gets a new luxury vehicle about every year (Bentley, Rolls Royce, etc) pays cash for all his vehicles. Also had a guy and his wife come in, plain clothes looking at a C7 Z06 when they were brand new for about 120k. Their combined income was around 250k and owned several rentals. Had another guy come in a wife beater that was stained with sweat and torn jeans, paid cash for a vehicle. On the other hand I've also had a guy come in with a suit and couldn't finance anything because he owed the government around a million dollars.

Long ago worked in a dealership as Salesman. Guy came in with an old F350 wearing a ripped dirty jacket and dirty work boots. He was buying a cheap used car for his daughter no one wanted him. Turns out he was a owner of a construction company.
I sold him a car for his daughter and hardly made any commission and other laughed cause I wasted 4 hrs with him. He came the next week and traded his truck in for a new truck and upgraded his entire fleet. I sold him 24 trucks and one brand new SUV for his wife that day. That commission check was the biggest check I ever had.
His jacket was torn and shoes dirty because his truck was stuck in the mud, so he came in a fleet truck.
Edit: Commission check was around $17k for that week, which included front end and back end. The fleet vehicles used in construction costs around $80k minimum. Only 2 F450s had factory bed the rest were either F450 or F550 chassis cab with various options like hydraulic dump, flat bed, fifth wheel attachment, etc. Every single one was a 4x4 diesel. His wife got a limited expedition which at that time was around $75k. Buying business vehicles can be used as a tax write off.

I had a salesman that sold me two vehicles back to back. We had a good relationship. While we were waiting for my second vehicle he sold me to get detailed he told me a story similar to this involving what they thought was some poor trailer type person. No other salesman wanted to touch her with a 10ft pole. Well long story short, he talked with her and took her around the lot to find a car that suited her. She ended up choosing some economy car because she’s never owned a car before. When he went to see about her finances she told him she would pay cash for the car. She showed him her bank account to get the ball rolling and he said he almost passed out. The woman’s mom had passed away and left her a $1 million dollar life insurance policy. He said never judge a book by its cover. He also was able to get salesman of the year by one car because of it.

Its been almost 25 years and ill never forget this lesson and still tell story to people. Fresh out of High School at 18 I started what turned into a 15 yr job installing high end custom cabinetry. In the 1st month working I we were on a job in a Fly-in community with most houses having a aircraft hanger and taxiway to runway. After a few days there the woman said that her husband just finalized the purchase of his new aircraft and will be flying it from Michigan back to Florida and will be here tomorrow for yall to meet. The next morning unloading the tools you can see in the hanger not a small Piper or Cessna, but a Learjet that to me at the time looked like a flying Lamborghini! It was beautiful, it was incredible, a piece of aviation artwork. Of course I'm expecting to see a man dressed from the neck down in like an Armani suit or someone crazy in shape and tan with an expensive watch on his wrist... But no... the guy with the super model wife and the father of 2 well spoken and mannered 5 year olds twins looked like a out of shape bald t.v. repair man. He had on old beat up matching gray sweatpants and undersized sweatshirt. Rounded indoor/outdoor eyeglasses that stayed black. Wearing 10 year old NB shoes that a thrift shop would trash. Honestly you would walk past this man at Walmart and have no clue he had 20 million in the bank... To this day I have never based their financial standings or judged someone just from what I see or how they look...!

My grandfather was a dairy farmer and one of the richest men I knew. At any time you saw him would be wearing old jeans and a blue shirt. He must have had 10 of those shirts. He always looked like He hadn't shaved in a week. Looking at him, you would never believe he had at least $40,000 in his shirt pocket. He was always going to the stock auctions and buying and selling cows.

Wealth is best when it is quiet. I'm retired from a 30 year career in the car business - I had many such sales from customers that other sales people dismissed. One of my sales beliefs was the importance of getting absolutely everyone behind the wheel for a test drive. I would ask them to drive it to their house or business if it was nearby - to see how it fit in their parking space, and to show it to their family or friends or coworkers.

Really tall, red shirt, overalls, huge shaggy black beard and wild curley hair. He came in, I greeted him for entering my department. He said nobody would wait on him. He bought a stereo with our most expensive speakers, a big screen tv, and a vcr as well. When I was getting the stock on these items, other salesmen approacheh him and he waved them away saying that I was the ONLY person he would deal with. I got a good commission on that one. Funny thing was that our training told us to not pre-qualify the customers, and I was still new there.

A friend’s older brother wanted a new car. He could afford a BMW 5 series, so we went to a BMW dealer. It was around July, in Houston, and that day was scorching. We all had on shorts and t-shirts, and after looking at a couple of cars, we noticed that all the salesmen were just standing around talking. We left to go to another dealership, but on the way we spotted a Lamborghini dealership. Just to see what would happen, we stopped in. My first day actually on the floor, I sold 3 cars and took a trade-in to one guy for his 2 18yr old kids and himself. I had the highest gross profit ever at that dealer for a single sale on my first real day. True story, as told to me by one of his good friends. Former very successful motorcycle racer wanted a new Viper at the time (90s). Drove up to the first Dodge dealership in a tanktop and shorts (clothing judgment, but that's how he dressed back then: poor country boy from the South before he made it big). Nobody would help him, so he went in to the showroom floor and yelled 'Is anybody gonna f'ing help me?' Salesmen told him to leave because he couldn't afford anything. He got pissed and went to the next Dodge dealership down the road. Walked in and said 'I want a Viper and I've got cash.' He told them the story of the first dealership, and then they realized who he was (local celebrity and hero), and were more than happy to sell it to him. He then returned to the first dealership in his new Viper. Walked in to the showroom and said 'F*** y'all. Y'all missed out', and burned rubber out of the dealership. Moral: NEVER judge a book by its cover.

Here's a note of wisdom from a 50 year old broad that was in outside sales for the car industry for over a decade:
NEVER, EVER JUDGE A CUSTOMER BY HOW THEY LOOK!!!!!
I personally watched a farmer come in from the fields to buy his wife a GMC Yukon Denali XL for Valentines Day!! He was still in his "work truck" & overalls. Dirt & dust all over him. The biggest dig was that he paid CASH!! But everyone at the dealership knew him already & most customers in that town were farmers for Riceland.
And an extra piece of knowledge, Riceland in Stuttgart, Arkansas is the WORLD'S largest rice producer!!!
But really, the truly wealthy don't blow their money on a ton of high-end, name brand things. They typically save their money, hence why they have enough to spend on what they REALLY want!!

I talked to a salesman at the airport and it kinda changed my life. This guy asked fantastic questions and listened. That’s all people want.

First rule for every salesman, never judge and underestimate your customers, treat all the customers equally

I used to work retail (music instrument store), this happens all the time. One of my best spending customers was a guy who would show up in sweats and a ratty tshirt. Turns out, he was a divorce lawyer. Would come in an buy at least 1 high end guitar a month.

You can always tell the difference between old money and new money. Most new money rich folks will be gaudy and like to show their wealth off but people of older money and hard earned money are usually like this guy and have manners and class and just want to be treated like the average joe. My dad has taught me and my sister that if you are somewhere that is known for elegance and money don't act like you've never been there or could never see yourself there and look stargazed, just be well mannered and be humble and treat others with respect and kindness and you'll be surprised by the people you meet and conversations you'll have. My family by no means have major money like this but my sister and I grew up comfortable and clothed and never wanted for anything but we stay grateful and humble in everything we do. Don't discriminate people just because the way they dress or look or anything. Money isn't a permanent factor and just because someone is rich doesn't mean they're going to look a certain way.

I remember my dad took me and my brother to a housing complex to buy a house. We drove there with motorcycle, Yamaha Vega. Yes it is an old motorcycle and all of salesperson of the housing complex looked down on us. When we about to leave my dad showed his card and said to the salesperson "i can buy a house right here and right now but it seems that you disrespect us, you miss your chance. Have a nice day". Well we ended up bought my grandpa's house and renovated the house

So you think that some random person leaving a viewing and saying "i can buy a house right here and right now but it seems that you disrespect us, you miss your chance. Have a nice day" is proof of anything?! lmao! Anyone could literally do that and they dont have money at all. Saying you dissed me blabla doesnt make the salespeople respect you, they would just think you are a moron. Imagine thinking giving someone your business card helps at all, haha!

@@lillerosin2915 why so salty lmao. It's not 100% exact word, it's almost 20 years ago. My dad really has the money to buy the house and we were looking for one. But this one sales really disrespected us just because we used an old motorcycle. Other sales in other housing complexes didn't look at us up and down to mock us. They still did their job with a smile, if they want to mock behind us we don't care, but not in front of us. I thought the sales job is to make us want to buy their products not looking down at their customer

Also my dad did that cuz he was so pissed at the sales for looking down at us like that. He had never done that before, it's just he was so pissed so he showed them that he would buy the house if he wanted to

I remember walking on a car lot for over an hour being ignored by all the sales people. I finally walked in with my wife and asked for the owner. When he arrived I made sure to pull out my 10k in cash and let him know that he did not lose a sale that day but a customer for life. I later learned he fired all the sales people immediately after I left.
