  • Neil again, bringing you the last chapter of this series outlining Great Britain’s electricity markets.
I’ve covered all the major markets for the trade of electricity in Great Britain,
but there’s still a group of services through which generators in Great Britain can earn revenues: ancillary services.
As you’re probably sick of hearing by now, the supply and demand of electricity have to be balanced at all times.
On top of this, there are other elements such as frequency and voltage that need to be regulated and carefully managed.
This is so the massive amount of electricity being transmitted across the country is able to be used safely in homes and businesses around the country.
National Grid ESO uses what it calls ’ancillary services’ to enable the power system to operate in a stable, efficient and safe way.
There are several different types of ancillary services in Great Britain, and I’m going to outline the main ones here.

great video to explain the ancillary services, is there a way to know how much money can a provider earn based on how much power he can offer to the gird? thanks
