- The Duke of York’s alleged links with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein are set to come under further scrutiny with the release of hundreds of files from a defamation case.
US Judge Loretta Preska ruled on Monday that documents relating to more than 170 people who were either associates, friends or victims of disgraced financier Epstein should be made public.
They include 40 documents of evidence from Johanna Sjoberg, who has claimed Prince Andrew touched her breast while sitting on a couch inside the US billionaire’s Manhattan apartment in 2001.
Buckingham Palace previously said the allegations are “categorically untrue”.
Royal commentator Michael Cole says that this development just ahead of Christmas is the “worst” festive present for the Prince.

One of the most famous cases of this is Anita Hill. Another woman discredited for “coming forward”. But she didn’t. She was asked by the FBI about sexual harassment. You can’t lie to the FBI. So it came out. No one came forward. Any time you hear a woman dismissed for “coming forward” find out if she really did.

I can honestly see several reasons for the payout. It was the Queens Jubilee and the focus was on him, His daughters would have probably been dragged into the court case and would possibly had to have given depositions - The Firm may have felt that it was the best option available at the time. Additionally, it is America and civil court cases can be horrifically expensive, even if you win. If it was a jury trial as opposed to judge only - that might have also been a consideration.
