It started pouring right before Jane’s came on, someone switched the intro music to Peter Gabriel’s “Red Rain,” and thousands of folks sang along. It was a fantastic, once in a lifetime show.
I was at the show in Raleigh and it was Noon to Midnight in brutal 95f heat and rain would have been welcomed. Jane's and The Banshees were fantastic. I remember NIN playing I think after Rollins, and the Buttholes, and you couldn't even see the band because the smokes machines and their light show was just lost in the blazing sunshine. Also Ice-T did a rap set and then a hard rock set with Body Count at a time when "Cop Killer" was still hugely controversial. Lolla was the first of its kind.
Sorry Flea, respect to Jane's, but SOUNDGARDEN takes the Gold medal for the 90s. AnC, Screaming Trees, get the Seattle/Grunge/Alternative silver & bronze medals, PJ & Nirvana can wrestle over the "runner-up" slot! hahahaha.
