In March 2012, the Illinois Department of Agriculture seized the bees of Terrence Ingram, owner of Apple Creek Apiaries in Apple River, Illinois. The department claimed that the bees were infected with American foulbrood, and destroyed the hives before a hearing. Ingram believed that the seizure was due to his 15 years of research on the effects of herbicides on bees, including Monsanto's Roundup, which he believed was a cause of colony collapse disorder.
