This was already a game I was super hype for, but between this and the metacritic being an all time high for the series I am beyond excited to get my hands on this.
Just finished Yakuza: Like a Dragon last night and I gotta say, one of the most fun games I've probably ever played, sure it's not perfect in every aspect, but the story sure is crazy.
Can't wait to continue my journey with Kasuga, what a great main character he is!

I owe it to gameranx for introducing me to this series about 3 years ago? They had Yakuza 0 on one of their lists and it looked interesting so i decided to try it out, i have now played every yakuza game since and judgment games and cant wait for this game. Thank you gameranx
Yep that's what happens...you play 0 then marathon all the games like a maniac. 5 was so long that I regretted pushing through the series with no breaks though
@ghintz2156 Yeah I adore the series but serious burnout can happen if you play all the games back to back because they are similar in alot of ways in terms of gameplay, mechanics, structure, but each game is unique and amazing in their own ways.
@@ghintz2156exactly what happened with me. I played 0-6 all in a row in July 2021. No breaks, day after day for the entire month was just YAKUZA. And I don't regret anything haha. I got soo fucking hooked, still am.
In yakuza lad it was shown the enemies are actually kasugas imagination running wild because of his love for dragon quest.

I’ve spent over a 100 hours in every single Yakuza game. Even Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 3. Then there’s also the two Judgement games and Fist of The Northstar. So my anticipation for this is through the roof.
Not many people put more than 30 hours into Y3. Respect. It's one of my favs in the series.
I've got principles, so as much as I want to buy I won't because of NG+ being locked, one they remove that I will buy it preowned.
New game plus was a dlc in Yakuza 7 too. This isn't anything new. New game plus in a game like this is literally worthless. Yakuza 7 new game plus was terrible

@@thequinlanshow3326no, that was only in Japan. Also, do you even know what ng+ is? It's replaying the game with acquired upgrades and items carrying over. Your just saying the game is bad if you think ng+ is garbage.
Tbh it makes sense, this game is so huge that 70 dollars feels like a steal anyway. This is one of the few games I would absolutely pay $100 for so I understand that that's the price for the full experience (+ replay).
I plan on spending probably 300 hours on this game which will last me til summer or damn near fall, I don't think I'll be itching to "start over" after such a grind... But that's just me I get why ppl are upset
The Infinite Wealth name really matches this game with all the paid dlcs and new game+ stuff lol. Tbh i'm waiting for it to get cracked or pick it up in a month when it's cheaper. They already screwed me over with Gaiden by already selling it 30% off after 1 week of launch

This game is phenomenal, I just can't stop playing. It's got every game in it too, Pokemon, Animal crossing, there's probably a 2D Mario game and FPS later down the line. It takes a little bit to take off with its slow early story, but I got hooked once they gave me a swegway.
I completed like a dragon looking forward to playing this because I actually prefer the turn based fighting
Knowing that this game plays in Hawaii was the only reason I pushed through these first 4-5 hours. But once you're there, it's smooth sailing
I was born and raised in Honolulu but I can see people playing this game then going there and saying oh I seen this place in Like a Dragon. 😂😂😂😂
I love this franchise so much. I am SO damn hyped for this game, especially with Kiryu becoming a party member. Only way I could be more hyped is if Majima was also joining Kasuga's party.

Hell, I can even easily imagine Majima jumping into the Dragon Quest fandom head first should Ichiban ever introduce him to the franchise, giving him reason tongo all in with the turn based combat just like Ichiban does. Plus, Majima is getting older, and IMO we see some pretty strong evidence of that during the end of Gaiden when both him and Saijima struggle to hold off one guy despite double teaming him. Yeah, it was the final boss of the game, but the fact that this blatantly shows that both Majima and Saijima aren't on the same level that Kiryu was at that point means that they're starting to decline to being closer to where Kasuga and his party are. The next game honestly might even have both as party members.

I have 0% experience with these kinds of RPGs. I never played a single Final Fantasy game or even a Yakuza game. But i think its time to dive in. I'm very excited to play these from the very first to the very last.

im gonna wait for a sale, but what i would absolutely love is if they combined the English and Japanese dubs to make it as immersive as possible. it'd be really cool to hear Kiryu's Japanese VA talking with Danny Trejo
That's my dream. The English voices for Ichiban and a lot of other characters is fantastic. But hearing Kiryu's english voice is almost physically painful to the point of making me consider changing audio to Japanese. I really like Ichiban and the other's in English though, they did an incredible job, so I don't want to switch. I would literally pay money to be able to keep the game in English but just switch Kiryu to Japanese. His Japanese voice is just too iconic.
They will put that behind a pay wall like they did to this game to own the full version. 🤬🤬

They improved everything in this game, which is surprising cause they didn't leave a lot of room for improvement in the last game. I kinda miss playing in Japan though. I would have liked a new location in Japan instead . Also very sad that Eri and Ichiban Holdings is gone 😔
Really looking forward to this game! I need more Yakuza Like A Dragon in my life 😂 When I played 7 it made me play near half of the Yakuza games and they’re great! Still need to play the other half. Great vids as always Falcon and Jake too! Always look forward to before you buys. Also, yea locking NG plus behind a paywall is so scummy but such a Sega thing to do. Even Persona does Day 1 DLC garbage. Not cool! Jrpgs are a one and done for me most days.
Same here! Like a Dragon was the entryway into the Yakuza franchise. I ended up buying Yakuza 0 - 6 and both Judgment games. I'm really looking forward to picking this up on Friday!

The idea of any game openly being set in Hawaii sounds kinda cool. Idk if I’ll play it tho as it brings back some bad memories of my Ex when we went to Honolulu right before she broke up with me lol. She also passed away recently so RIP… it’s been 2 and a half years since we broke up and I still thought about you.

I mean, everytime someone say something likes this everything goes wrong but I genuinely think you can't go wrong with a Yakuza game. They're always good because you just feel how much efforrt they put into it. They may have flaws but they're still great

If you spend money on this game you can never complain about micro transactions again, infact if you spend money on this game it's your fault why companies do this.
I mean with the fact your dealing with the extra 10 dollar cost with many PS5 games (which ironically GRANDBLUE FANTASY: RELINK DID NOT UP ITS PRICE TAG AND STUCK TO THE STANDARD 60 BUCKS!!!), it just made that 15 dollar extra for new gameplus with additional `content` even more annoying.
Yakuza series games were always full of stuff where i got tired of the game cause of too much stuff, which atleast because they had things like Sega arcade, many multi-player type games you could whip out when friends/family over to have some fun either with 2 controllers or handing the controller over to eachother for the shenigans.
Ultimately though unless Infinite Wealth was released during a time when no other `beeg` RPGs were releasing at the same time, it just landed in my `Get it a year later for a discount`, since i managed to get the first one for 18 bucks last year and enjoyed it and dont regret NOT spending 30~40 dollars instead for the discounted ultimate edition. Too much stuff released at the same time just straight up screws over day 1 pick up remaster/sequels since Yakuza games tend to be VERY LENGTHY and not the type of game you wanna play alongside other games to avoid too many games played at the same time `burn out.`
Alternate outfits and `extra jobs` or `extra personas` or `extra OP gear i dont see as justification to spend extra money on a single player game anymore.
Which is the same case im doing for Persona 3 Reload where i can just throw it to march or some later month this year, but atleast Like a Dragon I.F. wont be doing some `remastered edition` aka Persona 4 getting Golden, and Persona 5 getting Royal, which since P3 Reload `avoided` putting FeMC and Answer, means they could easily bring it back when they release Persona 3 Reload Moonlight in 2~3 years, making anyone who already burnt out on P3 Reload annoyed, even if they have the option to spend an EXTRA TWENTY BUCKS OR SOMETHING, to upgrade to `that` version, even in the best case scenario.
Exactly, I don't wanna see these guys complaining in the future when other companies start locking content that should be in the base game behind a $15-$30 upgrade. This is entirely their fault
Throw in the fact we already have that with alternate outfits, alternate endings, alternate voicepacks, `cameo battles` and more.
I certainly remember plenty of earlier `tales games` having easter egg type bits, now if you look at more recent ones, its basically a buffet of money stealing for a mostly cleaned out buffer table of so-called goodies that your expected to be `happy with` despite paying nearly half the price of the game, for what mostly amounts to 1 or 3 boss fights and maybe one outfit for each character and thats mostly it in many cases.@@ninjakiwi2476
No, we can still complain. Plenty of people won't be aware of the scummy locked off ng+ and I'm sure there will be more complaining when the game is out and those people find out it's behind a paywall.

SEGA frisked up Persona 5 Royal with the addition of Joker's "Third" Persona as a flipping DLC, and now, an RPG staple of NG+ for a series like Like A Dragon, it truly boggles the mind.
I tried the previous game, played it for like 20 hours. Really enjoyed all 5 minutes of gameplay I got in that time... Yes, the rest was cutscenes.
Yet here you are checking the review for a sequel which is even longer

Out of all the RGGS games, i only purchased 3 of it with my own money. Judgment (Softcopy), FoTNS:LP (sold it already) & Lost Judgment DLC Kaito files. As of the rest, i borrowed it from a friend to platinumed it. Lol
But somehow in this case for Infinite Wealth, i would really gladly pay it with my money
Friday I'm going to lose all my free time for a few weeks. FF7 can wait til I tire of all the side content. Crazy that I just finished Gaiden and there's already another game! RGG is the best...just not that NG+ cash grab!

It is really annoying that NG+ is locked behind a more expensive version of the game. It is a downright scummy business decision and it needs to be called out. This is not something I want to see in future games. If this doesn't die here it's just gonna get worse

I’m guessing it’s because they assume most people are gonna buy Atleast the deluxe edition anyway. If we took NG+ out of the master vacation pack would it still be worth the extra $15 tho?

I love that Yakuza can completely transform from a goofy but dramatic soap opera beat 'em up, to a full on Dragon Quest parody now complete with a very similar "monster taming" mechanic that still has the same goofy but dramatic soap opera story. It's the one video game series that has made me cry with every new entry I play. They certainly know how to tug on the ol heartstrings. Ryu Go Gotoku Studio should get way more recognition than they do, while every game isn't perfect they clearly know what they're doing.
The ending of Yakuza 6 absolutely broke me into tears.
I have to agree, if you follow all the Yakuza games from 0 to Infinite Wealth then you are in for an absolutely amazing and surprisingly coherent, rollercoaster of emotions, storyline, with so many details carrying over from game to game just by looking at how the maps change. It is remarkable how RGG does it, but taking Yakuza across several places in the world is such a logical next step and they seem to be pulling it off so well.
I'm very excited how long they can carry a torch burning so bright, if not brighter and brighter for each game. I want nothing else but for Yakuza to continue become a greater reaching franchise, the longer it goes, and so far they are wide in that success.
Yeah this is a very rare series where these games can have seriously good drama that moves me to tears, while also being so stupid as hell in the best way, and hilarious af. They actually pull off going back and forth between hilarious and serious/hard hitting. So far this game ranks right up there with 7 and 0 for me personally.
As a lover of JRPGs, Yakuza games, and Yakuza 7, this is my most anticipated game of the year. I spent over 150 hours in Y7 and this looks like it'll take up even more of my time. Ichiban is such a good protagonist, and I can't wait to see how Kiryu's story ends. (if it does end)

Same this was my introduction and only Yakuza game I've ever played. The Turn based RPG elements were the deciding factor for me giving it a shot back in 2020.
I'm seriously considering taking a half day from work on Friday just so I can play earlier.

I played Persona 5 Royale (TWICE) followed by Yakuza: Like a Dragon just a few months ago, so getting this was a no-brainer, but I super appreciate you making the comparison to Persona 5. After having almost zero RPG experience beyond some of the Mario ones, these games quickly became some of my favorites of all-time (I played DQ11 right afterwards and loved it, too.)

I love Yakuza series, but I hate the monetization for this one. This is a full price AAA game at 70$ and while I still not agree with that price I can accept it, but now, pay-walling a basic feature like new game+ is beyond greedy, is plain evil.
Yes, not everyone likes playing multiple times the same game after finishing the story, specially JRPGs since they are not usually very replayable since they are usually grindy and linear, but the are still people that like to do that, specially when the games are really really good like Yakuza, and this also a basic feature when you are trying to complete all achievements/trophies, and making that more difficult or time consuming is such bs.

From some comments I've received, it's not a money issue since games can be costly and something like this having so much content is worthy of the 70 dollar price tag BUT, I don't agree in trying to rip players off by removing a feature that's been in previous titles with no price tag.
There's no defending this kind of practice cause if they can get away with it they will do that for every single game along with the rest of the industry if we normalize that kind of business practice.
Gonna buy this at steam winter sale just to spit on them for doing that new game + crap...
I was a big fan of Yakuza 7, and am definitely going to buy this game... in a few months when it inevitably goes 50% off. Like most Sega games do. Too many games are coming out this year, and spending 70 dollars on all of them is bad money management.
Also the New Game+ being stuck behind a pay wall is a terrible precedent to let slide with the mentality of " yU nOt gunnA RE-PlaY GamE Cuz it 2 LooooNg" is brain dead stupid. This sets a terrible precedent that other game studios could absolutely adopt. Letting game companies get away with this kind of shit is obviously a problem no matter if you individually plan to use new game+ or not. The apologists in so may comment sections is concerning as well.

Also note, that it has a day-1 DLC for a large "bonus" dungeon among other things. Day 1 DLC is a scourge and should just stop being a thing. If the content is ready day 1, it should be included in the game, not sold as an addon.
Another reason to wait for price drop. If enough people do EXACTLY that, it should send some signals.

No way they'll revert that decision now that the purchases are finalized. Best-case scenario, the DLC bundle goes on sale for a much lower price within the next year or so -- still very scummy, but it's the only real way to avoid having to issue refunds.

Having to pay an Additional $25/£15 for the deluxe Edinburgh just to unlock NG+ means I will not be buying the game at all.

It is such a credit to a series to be so many sequels in and still keep things fresh and enjoyable. This series reallly flourishes in being able to change things up. Great video Falcon and team, as always.

I wish i could customize their appearances, I just can get to like Kazuga's hair, hate it. It makes me feel as if he were a total clown can't get myself to see him seriously. He has humor but he's also cool...xcept for his goofy hair.

Before you buy: know how disappointing it is that Kasuga is sidelined in this game.
To not even mention the NG+ dlc in the review is disappointing. While you shouldnt rail them for it, you shouldnt ignore it either. Next year it will be "Like a Dragon: More Money Less Product" Everyone will be like " Why are you complaining its only $17 for a save file"

YOU CAN'T DO NEW GAME PLUS it's ONLY AVAILABLE FOR THE 80$ ver.
technically its 70 dollars for the `base game` and then an extra 15 bucks or 85 dollars. not counting the `ultimate edition costs` on top of that and likely whatever extra clogs they slip in that just screams, wait till other games are done and then pick it up on a month of game drought or when it goes on sale next black friday or the year after that for 50% or even 80% off.
Thats how i got Like a Dragon Standard edition for 18 bucks. could of got the ultimate one for 30ish or so, but just didnt feel the desire to at the time.

Its not simply the matter of New game plus, its the matter of, let me repeat it, more and more systems getting `removed` and charged as additional costs, then simply leaving them alone.
Since as repeated: The bloody game already costs an extra 10 bucks because of the PS5 horse in the room.
Throw in the fact that people normally play video games to get the fk away from reality to just have fun, like people do the same for paying for `services`, `consuming debilitating materials to put oneself in a state of stupor and more`, its really not too different in that part.
Ultimately, many people can always go to different pastures while they wait for this one to go down in price with discounts and for any `fake lightning & fake grass` to get peeled up before it reveals additional costs or bad systems in place.
Cause anyone remember how Capcom shoved DRM in alot of its older games? Makes one realize alot of game companies if they want can pull that crap `if they wanted to`.
In the end this is just me giving my fingers some exercise while venting some frustration from multiple annoyances that happened this week and is more healthy to me then blindly beliving its totally a good idea to spend effectively over 100 dollars for a smidge of `additions` that were originally by default a part of the game in general, instead of being what is essentially 5 dollars to pay for a particular game mode and 10 dollars for a supposed `non-descript` additional post game that may or may not be that very lengthie at all and might mostly just consist of Repeat boss fights that just have thar stats inflated like your standard Story based lazy rpg that just reuses all the previous boss fights with no real context because they are too lazy to write a story more consistent then Final Fantasy 1 to justify fighting a bunch of bosses more then one time again.

I absolutely love Yakuza 0-6, but I keep trying and just can't get into the turn based gameplay. I want to but it just does nothing for me. I have the same problem with Balders Gate 3, it doesn't feel like playing a game as much as just clicking things and watching the game play itself.

Yeah I get you I felt that way at first too but eventually it kinda clicked for me I would rather an action game but I’m still super excited. If you have PC they made a huge combat over haul mod that plays like regular yakuza it looks pretty dope I play console though.
The mod is for 7 btw I forgot to say that. Also kiryu can break out of the turn based mode and just beat some mfs up with his yakuza 6 fighting style
The main antagonist of the game is literally Jeffrey Epstein..... Like unironically. You even get a trophy called "hidden in plain sight" during a cutscene where he has a child on his lap and everything is being revealed

Starting from 0 then playing 1,2,3, etc in order is considered best from an overall yakuza story perspective. If you want to play this game asap then start with yakuza like a dragon, then head straight into this game. That being said all games provide enough backstory to be played standlone.

i can easily believe it, what? i mean this is a 2 decade old series that used real-time brawling as its mainstay gameplay mechanic. ofc some people are going to be pissed that the series where they used to just beat the tar out of any thug and actual tiger standing in their way turned into a turn-based Dragon Quest style RPG. thats not to say its bad at all, but it should be easy to see that when a series makes a change like this, its gonna ruffle some feathers.

I loved Like a Dragon so much, and am now on first playthrough of Infinite Wealth. It does feel like there are more moments in Infinite Wealth that translate into English so poorly and come across as so cringeworthy. Some dialogue just tries so hard to endear the characters to you. Especially once Eiji helps you once Kasuga arrives in Hawaii, and there's what feels like 25+ minutes of cringeworthy polite, friendly dialogue to sit through in case you miss anything.
I laughed pretty hard when you described the side content. I've never played any of these games, but this one looks so insane. I have to experience it lol
