    Sharif's death in Menace II Society actually hit me harder than the death of Caine because Caine was living a wild, reckless life and it was only a matter of time before it caught up to him; while Sharif the logical voice of reason for the crew who wanted to always do what was right to the point where it annoyed the rest of the crew.

      @darkerthanblack4430 Месяц назад +1

      I think the reason people found Caine's death very tragic was bc he was true potential. In time all of the things Shariff once told him were beginning to marinate and materialize. Shariff was already there, he already mentally achieved his place. Sheriff died a young man that knew himself and loved himself regardless of his friends. Caine was on the verge of this. But before he got a chance, he was snuffed out. No chance of discovering this world through maturity. Shariff's tragedy lies where he was bright and intelligent, young, up and coming, and definitely coming to do the greatest things, gets snuffed out too.
      It sucks for them both in the end.

    The fact that Vonte Sweet was in 2 of the best hood movies of all time (Menace II Society & Boyz N The Hood) should've been enough to carve out his talent and impact in the film industry. But sadly, after those 2 movies, I can't think of many other big budget films that he was in (if I'm wrong then I'd gladly be corrected). But it just seems that his career came & went. I feel that he should've been hired in a lot more movies because of his untapped potential as an actor.

      His only way would be if ODog took full responsibility but even then it is still doubtful he would get off completely free.

    I think the movie's message was basically that the hood is a chaotic place.
    Sharif was an example of a character that made good decisions. Sharif had a father as well. He still was a victim of the streets.
    Also the movie implies Sharif was getting in similar trouble as Cain and ODog before he found Islam, yet Sharif had a good father.
    Sharif's main downfall was his association of friends.
    Caine's beef with illyena's cousin had nothing to do at all with Sharif. Sharif was mainly there to help Caine pack to help get him out the hood.
    Ultimately Caine's made alot of mistakes and the movie implies that maybe of Caine didn't get shot and killed, he would have ended up in jail anyways. It would have been a matter of time before he was arrested for Robbery and Murder.
    But Caine's ultimate downfalls was his tendency to solve problems with violence. Pistol whipping Chauncey (who probably did deserve it), got their names hot in the streets. Stomping Illyenas cousin (which was probably unnecessary) got him killed, one of his friends killed, and put his girlfriend and her son life at risk. While Cain got killed in the end, it also killed innocent people and traumatized others.
    Sharif had nothing to do with any of it and was killed just for being the wrong place at the wrong time and was trying to get out the hood himself.

    In my journey to find myself in the 80s and 90s and educating myself about my peoples history beyond mlk, I noticed that during that time accepting Islam was what alot of people thought came with Black Power and a bunch of them have since abandoned it because it was pure. I was around alot of 5 percenters in NY back then and they also automatically assumed that because I was invested in the struggle, I should instantly pick up their religious beliefs. I didn't believe in any religion at that time having studied them before I made a choice and I ended up choosing nothing. I needed it to be organic no matter what it was and that didn't come until I was in my 40s. 😊. My husband has been a 5 percenter for 45 years and he said that he didn't necessarily believe in it at 1st. They'd bully the young boys into it in the 70s. I doubt Sharriff was bullied in or a jail convert. For some reason I think his conversion was organically spiritual after reading and studying and having a real interest in it

    Move connect Sharif is the guy Roc in Boyz in the Hood who tried to take the Tickets football ... I'm not simply saying it's the same actor he's the same person because Sharifs dad Mr Butler talked about who Shaif getting in trouble a lot when he was younger before he found the nation

    • @AxiomAmnesia
      @AxiomAmnesia  Месяц назад

      I don't think that's enough to connect this as the same character, especially considering that the films had different writers and directors. I know we all like to make this type of fan theory connection, but there's no real evidence that this is the case. Now if Mr Butler specifically referred to something that happened in the other movie, that would be more suggestive of what you're talking about. 🙂

  • @jackd6881
    @jackd6881 Месяц назад +6

    Sharif is a redundant there are already 3 other people introduced into the story just to basically give the same message he gives, and besides that part of his character he had none. The character has like 5 lines, They originally gave Pac this throwaway role just so he would turn it down.

    • @AxiomAmnesia
      @AxiomAmnesia  Месяц назад +1

      I think you're wrong about this because the other people who deliver the message of leaving the streets are not the same. Both the message and the messenger matter.

      @@AxiomAmnesia Caines Grandparents, the school teacher, Pernell amd Ronnie all give the same message that Sharif did and unlike sharif they play active roles in the story.
      Caines Grandparents raised him, Duttons character was his teacher, Purnell was the reason he got into the gang life (and he was from the streets too), Ronnie was his love interest and the one who orchestrates the Kansas trip and Sharif is just there for some reason. Its so obvious they created this character to be nothing so if directors needed to cut scenes with him in it for whatever reason nothing in the story would change.

    • @jsmacks11
      @jsmacks11 Месяц назад

      I think Sharif's role was interesting.
      Alot of times there are people who associate with Thugs and aren't thugs.
      Sharif didn't do drugs or drink, he seemed to be the downer of the party, yet he was there alot of times.
      While I think Sharif did want to help Caine, I also think Sharif somewhat might have missed his old life. I think on a deeper level he missed his friends and that was a big part of trying to get Caine to get right. I think he figured ODog was a lost cause.
      I think he could have went Islam and found new friends but I think he couldn't live with himself seeing them choose the wrong path.
      Caine was ultimately blind. He had alot of people giving him knowledge. But I think his cycle of destruction started earlier than people realized.
      Before the movie started Caine has witnessed multiple murders, had to deal with the death of both of his parents and probably was a victim of violence many times before the movie started.
      By the time he graduated high school, he was already well on the wrong path even though he probably never killed anyone, i think he had a fairly rough past by then.

    Having a good father in the home doesn't mean that there is no mistake, bad decisions, missteps, etc.
    What it means isn't that there is a significantly better chance that when those things inevitably do happen, there is someone there who has a better chance to course correct them.
    Shariff did have those before, but through help and guidance of his father, he found a way out of those things.
    And after he found his way out of those things, he tried to be the leader and course correct his friends as well.
    And up until the end of the movie, he was succeeding to a degree. 2 of his friends were in the middle of course correcting with him.
    If that drive by is scheduled a day later, he and at least 2 of his friends would have it out.
    And like Heit said, Cain himself was 1 decision away.
    If Cain had handled that 1 decision better, the drive by would not have happened.

    I liked thw character but I agree with Pac's criticism. Black Muslims aint punks and the way Shareef was spoken to by his friends indicated that he was, wven if they were joking. I feel there shouod have had more respect and he should have been a bit more authoritative in his demeanor.

    Most of the time in the black community moms are automatically assumed to be there. They cannot be there but be present. Kane don’t have to mention his father death. The fact he not there may assume he not around.

    Do we know how old Ronny is? Because she's hooking up with a guy who just graduated high school and she's dating a man who was an adult when Caine was a kid. And she has a kid who is like 5 to 7ish. So either Parnell is too old for her or she's too old for Caine assuming Caine is 17? But I mean...let's be real...in real life this and much worse goes on. I know a woman who casually admitted her 32 year old friend was dating a 19 year old guy for 3 years and didn't even think it was weird or wrong...If we ignore all that and assume they're close in age, I think Parnell pretty much gives his blessing. He wants Caine to take care of her and his son because he's never getting out or he'll be an old man or something.
    I don't like all the characters dying either. I don't need movies to be real and sad. Real life is hard enough, sad enough, and just too much sometimes. I want to see happy endings. I already "feel" enough from real life, lol. i gotta disagree with "anthony's gotta go". Now, Ronny being killed and Caine having to take care of Anthony...that's super tragic, but maybe a better ending because that would hurt Caine more than dying himself. But with the ending the way it is...I think it's better. Caine is not a really good person. He tries save Anthony even though he's really just putting Anthony in more danger...but that's about it. He's not show doing anything for anyone but himself and the girl he likes. So him dying isn't too tragic for me. Sharif is more tragic, but even then I'm just like "why are you always around them".
