This is a great song and my favourite on this album bit I think the album 'Ride the Lightning' is very hard to beat. During this time I think Metallica were definitely at their best

reminds me of my youth, I think I was 15 when it was released, now I am 36.....time flies fast.....and this is indeed a MASTERPIECE!!!!the newer generation missed one of the greatest decades of all times ... the 90s.. I just wish I had a time machine
My dad met Metallica in London and talked with them for about one hour. He also met Cliff and got his autograph a couple of hours before he died. I wonder how much that autograph is worth now?
Did it ever occur to you that maybe your father sabotaged the tourbus and made the accident happen? Like the guy who murdered John Lennon for kicks? Just messin with you :P
That Kirk and Jason fist bump around 1:30 felt awesome. At least those two got along good. I felt real bad about how they treated Jason. But Kirk always said he and Jason were friends. Badass song and video of course.

Many years ago, i was listening and watching this song without being aware of anything, and i was listening to it by looking at the photographs and thinking about what people had experienced in these places. Over time, it has become my favorite song and the one i listen to the most. 20 years have passed since then. I learned the meaning of sanatorium and now I am a "Tuberculosis War Doctor" and I work in a sanatorium. From time to time I look back and wonder if this song had an impact on changing my life.
Now every time I hear this song it reminds me of the HBO documentary "Paradise Lost" and I can't help but feel sick to my stomach with how messed up our court system is. There is no real justice. 3 boys were wrongfully charged with the murders of 3 younger boys. But in the biggest fail of it all, they could only be released if they plead guilty to the crime they always knew they were innocent of. Jason would have refused if Damien wouldn't have been facing the death penalty. So not only did the "justice" system fail them, and take away 17 years of their lives, but the REAL killer of 3 precious 8 year old boys walks FREE today. And meanwhile in a case I'm very familiar with since I reside in the state of Florida, the Casey Anthony trail. OVERWHELMING evidence of her guilt. But she walks free today. Why? Because she's a young white upper middle class woman. These boys were convicted because they liked black clothing and heavy metal, something that now 20 years later people don't bat an eye at. And once again, the real victim is that precious baby girl Caylee, who was thrown away like trash, and her KILLER walks FREE today. AMERICANS, THIS IS NOT JUSTICE. WE CAN'T JUST KEEP TURNING OUR BACKS AND PRETENDING THIS IS WOULDN'T HAPPEN, IT IS! AND UNLESS WE START DEMANDING CHANGE, MORE WILL DIE IN VAIN.
Nico Contreras yeah, after 17 years in prison for a crime they didn't commit. worse, the actual killer was has never been found or punished for the 3 boys that were murdered. They were all 8 years old. So justice isn't just lost, it's perverted. There is nothing justified about it. Makes me sick. The WM3, men now, boys still themselves when they were arrested, to be released they basically had to plead guilty or else they wouldn't be released. So justice will never come, because they aren't looking for the killer. They can't accuse someone else of the crime they pled guilty to already.
Carrie Olson-Carden It sucks, there´s no way "justice" can give them back those years but I am happy to see they are alive, their mind must be in pieces though ...

I never really believed in the idea of vinyl being so much better than digital until I looked up this tune and tried to press my headphones onto my ears as tightly as possible the way I did when I was a kid to get that "right there" audio quality. Back then, on my old record, it felt like Hammett was directly behind my right ear and the song was playing in the middle of my brain. I still love the song, but I can't really experience it the way I used to when I lived with my folks and Dad had his old 70's stereo system. So yeah, I'm now looking up record players to buy.
there is one ( that i know ) that was recontructed in my country again to open the gates ... and this happend last week ( yes, its called a sanitarium BUT if your true, maybe not ... )
This song along with this video sounds so hauntingly beautiful 🤘🤘 Takes me back 5 years back I first heard this masterpiece. Too much nostalgia in this song.😍😍
I heard sanitarium for the first time when I was about 15 years old locked up in kidspeace it felt like a reality it felt like they were singing about the situation that I was in I'm now in my forties and still listening to them more than I did ever they're the best group that ever came out
I remember when Metallica didn't want to be apart of making music videos.. some called it 'selling out' back then, but i looked at is as a way I was able to hear or see my favorite bands music that was not played on the radio

This song never got any air time. it is truly one of their best. I have been a die-hard fan since I was 10 and I'm 43 now and they are my favorite band of all time. I can't wait to see them on May 12th. We got fucking killer seats on the floor 21st row. Haven't seen them since 09
I've always kinda seen Metallica and Megadeth as The Beatles and Rolling Stones of Metal .... The Stones were probably technically better than The Beatles but the Beatles just wrote way better songs that are far more loved and memorable than those of The Stones, Same with these two amazing Bands, Megadeth in my own opinion are more technically gifted than Metallica, but Metallica as with The Beatles just write way better and more memorable songs that endure in our hearts. this is just my own personal opinion, I prefer Metallica to Megadeth and I don't think any Metal band will ever be bigger than them, but they're both badass bands in their own separate rights. :-)
My neighbors LOVE this song. They threw a brick through my living room window just so they could hear it better! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Maybe if you go break their windows, it'll help them hear it better on that end

Lyrics
Welcome to where time stands still
No one leaves and no one will
Moon is full, never seems to change
Just labeled mentally deranged
Dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight
No locked doors, no windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred
Sleep my friend and you will see
That dream is my reality
They keep me locked up in this cage
Can't they see it's why my brain says rage
Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone
Build my fear of what's out there
And cannot breathe the open air
Whisper things into my brain
Assuring me that I'm insane
They think our heads are in their hands
But violent use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
He's getting better, can't you tell?
No more can they keep us in
Listen, damn it, we will win
They see it right, they see it well
But they think this saves us from our Hell
Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone
Sanitarium, just leave me alone
Fear of living on
Natives getting restless now
Mutiny in the air
Got some death to do
Mirror stares back hard
Kill, it's such a friendly word
Seems the only way
For reaching out again.
Thank you so much ❤
One of the best Metallica songs ever... period.

This song is a Masterpiece.
It’s beautiful
It's SUCH a journey. Agree about it being a masterpiece.

T-Ann Winter Ugh.. Yeah... Of course... Easily..

Jesus Christ Dude, same. It's kinda saddening nostalgia
Jesus Christ boss

HOLA AHREE SIGUEN VIVAS?
something sublime! thank god for rock n roll
Looks like Pic's of Chernobyl after the meltdown.
so glad this video is still on YT
Hands down my personal #1 Favorite song of all time
