      Thanks for watching! This is some incredible product. It inspired me to get some newspaper paper for my future props.

      Oh wow, that's cool. How difficult was it to get?

    • @MaxWriter
      @MaxWriter  5 лет назад

      Very simple actually. There's a company called Blick online where you can get it for about $4 a ream of 500 sheets. Seems like a good price.

      Wow. Have you tried to print on it? How'd that go?

    You said exactly what I was feeling: it looks too good to risk having my players damage. Haha! I don't know why I treat everything so delicately. They are meant to be used and there would be no reason to keep it pristine as I'd never sell it. But... DAMN! I just have a hard time allowing people to even touch things as beautiful as that. Help me!

    • @MaxWriter
      @MaxWriter  5 лет назад

      Right!?! I've always printed out my handouts, never cut them out of the book. This one will be hard for me to share and it'll have to be a group that's really invested in the game before I let them touch the real things. Having said that, it won't be hard to scan and/or copy right onto newsprint or the like to make some nice props I won't feel bad about letting them touch.

    I've been on the fence about buying into this module. Me and my players have been jumping different rule sets and call of cthulhu seems promising(We were a 5e d&d group but high fantasy isn't doing it for us any more). We just finished the starter set and are looking to continue with the rule set. It looks like the investment will be worth it. Thank you for an amazing quick look at this set of props!

    Excellent unboxing!Thank you for sharing! Peru chapter? Must be new to 7th edition. I'll be running it in 6th, with bits of Pulp Cthulhu thrown in. I'm convinced! Ordering it today!

      Yes, Peru is new to 7th Edition I think. I've only just ordered the slipcase Masks of Nyarlathotep and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. The prop said is AMAZING!

    Always love any products from HPLHS, the attention to detail they do is always amazing. You should check out their radio plays they do it’s on the same level of detail and care

    I need to muster all my willpower not to order this. The outlook of me running Masks in the foreseeable future is very slim due to having two small kids, but MAN do this look amazing.
    Great video as always.

      @MaxWriter  3 года назад

      Thank you. But ... your kids will grow up someday and then you'll have it to play with them! Justified! ;) In all seriousness, it's a great set but you could also buy some newsprint paper (they sell it in 8 1/2 x 11) and print out a lot of the newspaper articles. I do that with my other stuff.

    If you run it online, please invite me. I'll be there! Don't worry, any knowledge I have about the plot will not alter my roleplaying. I'm all about the story!

    • @MaxWriter

      I don't run much online, partially because I don't have the privacy where I live. Partially because I have very little skill setting up those kinds of things. If I do, I will let you know, though.

      MaxWriter I much prefer playing in person but living in rural Japan doesn’t allow me such luxuries. So I’ve had to run my games online with friends around the world. I’ve only had a chance to join as a player once in the past 15 years but that was in a Pathfinder game and after a couple of months I had to bow out as it just wasn’t my style.
      Sadly haven’t been able to do Cthulhu. Tried twice over the span of 10 years with almost the same group of people. Both times they all backed out just before the game could start. They’re not the most reliable lads.
      My current group does Star Wars Edge of the Empire and we’re about to reach the end of a major arc. After that we’re thinking of switching to a different system for a small campaign and change of pace. Cthulhu is one of the top choices. I hope it happens.

      I'm sorry you haven't been able to play it yet. I like the simplicity of the system, combined with the horror. I always injected horror into my games, when I could. I love creepy stuff. It's surprising it took me so long to finally run it (about 10 years ago for the first time) though I'd collected the books for a long time before that. I don't think I thought I could do it justice, but I've enjoyed it more than any other tabletop rpg.

      @@MaxWriter I've played Cthulhu back in university and tried running a session about 15 years ago or so... But I've been meaning to try it again with some friends online and that's what has fallen through every time.
      When I played back in my university days, it was actually my first exposure to Lovecraft. The games themselves were very creepy and atmospheric. A friend of mine would run it in his old apartment in a somewhat unsavory part of the city. Another friend, who lived across the street from my apartment at the time, and I would go there in the late afternoon and we'd end up playing until 1am or later. I had always hoped the Keeper would say, "Hey, why don't you guys just crash on the floor for the night since it's so late." but he always had us leave. So we'd have to walk home in the late hour going through some very questionable areas, past abandoned homes and voices carrying on the wind from who knows where. After hours of having the embers of fear stoked inside our guts from the cosmic horror of Call of Cthulhu, the shadows seemed to reach out at us unnaturally and those distant voices always seemed much closer and less human with our imaginations playing tricks on us. It really could have been a dangerous situation for us but, in hindsight, it really hammered in the intensity of those games and has become a treasured memory.
      Just wish I had a chance to play again. Or even be the Keeper. I've been GMing so long now, I wonder if I'm even able to be a player anymore.

    • @MaxWriter
      @MaxWriter  5 лет назад +1

      That sounds awesome. My own players don't really take the game seriously. I'll be trying to make it more atmospheric and creepy as we go. Right now, we're playing Down Darker Trails so there's a bit more gunplay than outright strangeness. I'm going to try to change that this fall.

      @@MaxWriter Looks like you didn't get my question ;) the HPLHS has also created a "Super Deluxe" Prop Set for their Radio edition of Masks for Nyarlahotep. It actually doesn't have documents features in the prop set, that you've already reviewed (so your order won't duplicate). But it has, apart of the DART show Masks of Nyarlahotep and props for the DART show Masks of Nyarlahotep, a number of artifacts, that are designed to look like a real thing. That includes the jade figurine of a bloated woman, Golden Mirror from Peru (of course gold plated, not real gold, but looks like a real thing), the crook and the flail of the Black Pharaoh, Bundari's Enchanted Fly Whisk, Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh Ceremonial Robes, Token of Bast's Regards, and two sides of the Token of Light and Darkness (one half wrapped in silk, other in Egyptian Parchment. The Prop set, as far as i understand, is still to be released soon, and the price is astonishing 919USD or 808 Euro.

    • @MaxWriter
      @MaxWriter  5 лет назад

      I DID misunderstand you. No, I have no plans on purchasing the second set. The price makes it impossible, unfortunately. I do like they didn't double up and the other set it entirely new stuff though. Thanks for the info.
