    I enjoy The Cheviots, too. It is the path less travelled - that’s why it’s unclear. At this time of year, you can walk all day without meeting another soul. But, it is still cold. April is the month for me - you don’t freeze and you are still pretty much alone, everywhere you go.
    Pleased you are well, after getting over Covid. I’m getting soft in my old age, too, but you’re a long time dead, so don’t slow down until the wood that surrounds you is lowered into the ground.

    Hello Damian!
    This show is/has been very nice...you've not lost your sense of humor, even though you are not old yet! I, too, have gotten a bit soft; Ale & living here in this 250 acre retirement community. Having our 150 acre forest with whitetail deer, foxes, coyotes(always unseen, so far & occasionally heard) & the Autumn black bear seen just before hibernation, does keep me active enough to still want to backpack about@69....I know it makes sense to do a bit of wild wandering.
    Ever since you said you didn't want to become known as the Fair Weather Wanderer; I realized, that is who I have become +/-. Warm sunny days are my time to wander....Happy Trails man......

      Thank you Dave and ATB to you and your family also, I've been busy the last few weeks and not able to get out. It was such a short video, I had loads of footage but all my filming and waffling was focused around the wild goats, which I couldn't find so video was a bit short. Glad you enjoyed it, the history was a bit of a plan B. Because it was getting dark so quickly, I wouldn't have had time to look for the whisky still, if I'd seen the goats. I will have to return to see them, which isn't a bad thing as the area is great to explore.

  • @banksarenotyourfriends
    @banksarenotyourfriends 2 года назад

    Cracking video mate. I don't know if anyone else has said, but a lot of what remains of the whiskey still you were looking for is basically just an old flue that's been dug into the hillside. It's possibly even easier to spot from the other side of the burn looking back across at it. As you say, the still itself was probably just a wooden barrel.
    Recently I've been looking up LiDAR images of the region that the Environment Agency have been doing. If you like looking for old sites then it's a canny tool to mess about with.
    All the best.

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  2 года назад

      Thank you for your comment. When I looked at the LIDAR imagery, it showed the valley in shadow with little detail. The latest data should be better, I will look now for updates. The LIDAR database moved incase you want to check it out. environment.data.gov.uk/DefraDataDownload/?Mode=survey
      Edit: I can see malt floor from 2021 LIDAR but no chimney from still. Thats not to say its not there, I've seen a pic of the still foundation and remember reading somewhere it was made from bricks but little remains now

      I don't think I've got long covid but lack energy and motivation to get out, but once there, I'm loving it. The search for the whisky still was just a plan B. I did loads of filming and waffling about the goats which had to be scrapped when I didn't find any. Camping in the car is to comfortabe for me Jimmy, so tomorrow I'm in the woods, trying out a DD hammock.

    Excellent upload ... I used to know that area like the back of my hand ... I have seen the Wild Goats many a time especially on that section of the Pennine Way between Chew Green and the Refuge Hut at the foot of Lamb Hill ... also seen them at Yearning Hall which I first visited many years ago and since then have watched it deteriorate as a consequence of use by Troops on Exercise .
    We are indeed lucky to have such magnificent scenery and history in our area .

      1064, just before the Norman conquest. Its amazing you can go back that far. Jackery have a deal on at the minute but ends in a couple of days time, discount codes are in video description. I don't make any money from it, just happy to recommend them after using their products for months now. When you're car camping, the last thing you want is the car battery going dead because of charging devices from it. Its ok when the alternator is running but you can't use it as a leisure battery
