4:54 thanks for pointing this out, I may not have noticed this on my tab s8+ until it was too late. My simple solution to this was to put some clear tape on the corner just enough so it cover the corner and up the back. At least it adds a little protection against small scratches for now till I figure out a better solution

Great question! So I just loaded up MS Word and typed out a few letters, then flipped the keyboard all the way back, and the input from the keyboard was disabled. I tried it in a search box too, same result. That's awesome, it's behaving just a like a 2-in-1 laptop, I was not expecting that. Thanks for the great question.
about the arrow, the surface pro also will have it's arrow disappear after awhile. seems like most of their function (including keyboard shortcut) are similar to surface pro. it's great video for me to compare as im thinking to get tab S8 ultra or 8+ tablet with more versatility

The function keys no longer have play/pause, ship forward or skip back. These were on the s7 keyboard. I have found that the arrow keys control these function.
Hey Rader, great video, I am still trying to figure out this keyboard... to my huge disapointment, the only available keyboard here in Canada is French/English, so there are some differences. but I can't seem to find out how to use them. Example on my (= +) button there is also a 3rd option show for (3/4) however I can't get it to work. I tried all Shift/Control, alt and all combinations. nothing works. Any advice would be amazing!
Howdy Matt, thanks for stopping by again! To be honest, I'm not really following what you're saying. Doesn't your keyboard have the +/= on one key, and then 3 and 4 should be on their own keys. Are you saying that the numbers are part of that +/= key as well? I'm a bit confused. Yes, input lag does happen especially with the track pad, it seems to come and go and it's never been a big issue. You can try wiping the connectors with something like WD40, if it still doesn't work, then quickly return it before warranty runs out.
I'll keep a lookout for it, so far mine has been pretty good, hopefully it stays it that way. I do notice every once in a while the 2 finger gestures just stop working for pulling down notifications. It's happened like 3 times now, once after recording this video just a few hours ago. I'm hoping it doesn't start to become a "thing", it never happened to me with the S7+ keyboard. Another great video! Just confirming, the keyboard can fold completely back on itself? If so, does it disconnect easily while doing that folding action? Your earlier video made it look like it disconnects too easily but I also noticed you had the kickstand out so maybe that affected it? I prefer that keyboard to REALLY require some force to disconnect it..
Yes it does. Same as the S7/S7+ BKC. However the hinge is much stiffer and designed a bit differently (two discrete points of articulation, rather than wobbly fabric), so you gotta work it in a bit before it'll fold back easily without popping off.
It does fold all the way back, similar to a 2-in-1, but I'm not sure I'd recommend doing it as a regular thing, so to speak. I think eventually it might put too much strain on the internal cable, going all the way back like that. It will come disconnected pretty easy when folded back like this. Not so much if you remain still, but if you move around some it can be disconnected fairly easily. It definitely doesn't require a lot of force. Hi, thanks for watching! Yes, it has dedicated Vol+/Vol- and Mute buttons that are part of the Function key row. You can press Fn+F12 to lock the keys, then you can use them as dedicated media keys without having to fiddle with the Fn function button.

I feel as though, a sheet of some type of metal should've reinforced the bottom. I think the big redesign might be next year, just a guess. The partnership with Microsoft may be promising, especially with the new surface keyboard. We may get something similar. It's a long shot,but it may potentially happen.

No solution yet afaik, but the best thing to do would be to bring it up in the Samsung Members app and hope they release a software update that addresses this (and hopefully makes it more customizable).

Hi, thanks for watching. It sounds like the wrong character set might be in use. In Settings, go to General Management, and your keyboard language options will be there. I'd start with double checking those.
I don't remember if you owned an S7/S7+ as well, but if you do, did you go back to it and try to lock function on there too? Cuz I did. Disappointed to find it doesn't work :( I hope they add it when the S7/S7+ gets the OneUI 4.1 update. I'm kinda bummed we don't get media keys on the S8U keyboard though :/
I did have the S7+ and loved it, but it's now back with Samsung as part of the trade-in deal. But I did try locking the Fn row back when I had it and got the same result - nothing. It is nice to have on this newer Ultra keyboard. Media keys sure would have been nice, totally agree. I'm so lazy that I usually just skip tracks and stuff with the s pen, but that's not always handy. Thank you so much for watching.

I typically hold onto my old devices and try to find some use for them, though that's gotten harder in the age of batteries glued in under layers and layers of screws and adhesives. I've found myself with 3 high-end tablets now (I have both the S7+ and the S7 because I picked up the 512GB S7 for under $400 during a promotion Samsung was offering on top of the usual education discount a year or so after its release) and I'm not quite sure what to do with them. 😅 I think once I get over the "hype stage" with my S8U, I'll go back to using the others more as well though. Sometimes it's nice to have something that fits in the hand too haha
@@joon0 The last 2 sentences you said sum up how I feel too... It's nice to have some different sized devices, as having one super large tablet can be a bit "much" at times. I'm thankful for my Fold 3 for that reason, but wish I still had the S7+ for when I'm sitting on the couch. It was the perfect size for sitting situations, but I do prefer the Ultra for most other situations.
@@RADERTECH It really is. It's a great size for some casual games too like crosswords, sudoku, various "matching" games, and the like. I have to believe Samsung did a ton of research when deciding what sizes to make these tablets (just for all the iPad users to complain about 16:10 aspect ratio 😂). I find my S7 is the perfect size to throw in my bag when I'm feeling like going out but I'm not certain if a work-related thing might come up that requires my attention. It's just big enough to pump out a little bit of "serious work" while I'm out if I need to take care of something quickly (and doing it from my phone would take more time), but small enough to pull out in most situations.

Great question. There was a speck of dust that got trapped under it that caused an air bubble to never settle. It was tiny but I'm OCD about that kind of stuff. Totally my fault for doing an on camera install and not doing a quick close inspection off camera while doing it. So I ended up removing it after a couple of days. @@john7641 I most likely will within the next week or so, just trying to get some down time to catch up on things. A couple tips to ensure a good install... Make sure your A/C or heating unit is turned off and you have no open windows or doors or kids/pets running around. Any air movement can cause a speck of dust to come in contact even right after you finish cleaning it. Next, hold the tablet up to a good light source right before you apply it, and move it around under the light. You'll see any little specks of dust this way. That's about it, you should be in good shape, just take your time and don't get nervous. I know, easier said than done, but it'll go fine. I've installed at least 50 screen protectors in my day without issue, but none of them while a camera was recording, that was the problem with my install here. Make sure you have zero distractions and it will be smooth sailing :)

@@user-xi7lg3em8i Oh my, that sucks. So have you done the latest update? Where you connect the keyboard for 5 seconds, the disconnect it for 5 seconds, then re-attach it - it should prompt you for the update on-screen then. That updates is supposed to help with it.

No, no, no, let me explain... Pushing up from the bottom like that emits the same forces as having the tablet keyboard between your legs and pushing DOWN on the trackpad like you normally would. It was much easier to do it this way on camera than sitting it on my lap and trying to come up with a microphone solution to pick it up. If you end up getting the keyboard you'll find out exactly what I'm talking about. The trackpad accidentally clicks like crazy, too much so. Thanks for watching 👍
@RADER TECH I don't remember you emphasizing that it's an issue with NORMAL OPERATION, in that case I will look into it on my tablet, just got mine two weeks ago. I do see the keyboard STOP WORKING, on me, and the track pad TIMING OUT too, the Tab S7 Plus keyboard wasn't this bad, Samsung should know better.

got my keyboard delivered yesterday from pre-order. it is kinda heavy now with it but still best if with keyboard attached

Go to settings -> accessibility -> interaction and dexterity -> bounce keys (disable it)

How can you make @ in the keyboard? Im trying doing it as you will do in a regular keyboard but it doesnt work

I don't remember if you owned an S7/S7+ as well, but if you do, did you go back to it and try to lock function on there too? Cuz I did. Disappointed to find it doesn't work :( I hope they add it when the S7/S7+ gets the OneUI 4.1 update. I'm kinda bummed we don't get media keys on the S8U keyboard though :/
I did have the S7+ and loved it, but it's now back with Samsung as part of the trade-in deal. But I did try locking the Fn row back when I had it and got the same result - nothing. It is nice to have on this newer Ultra keyboard. Media keys sure would have been nice, totally agree. I'm so lazy that I usually just skip tracks and stuff with the s pen, but that's not always handy. Thank you so much for watching.
@@RADERTECH That trade-in offer was sure tempting. I typically hold onto my old devices and try to find some use for them, though that's gotten harder in the age of batteries glued in under layers and layers of screws and adhesives. I've found myself with 3 high-end tablets now (I have both the S7+ and the S7 because I picked up the 512GB S7 for under $400 during a promotion Samsung was offering on top of the usual education discount a year or so after its release) and I'm not quite sure what to do with them. 😅 I think once I get over the "hype stage" with my S8U, I'll go back to using the others more as well though. Sometimes it's nice to have something that fits in the hand too haha
@@joon0 The last 2 sentences you said sum up how I feel too... It's nice to have some different sized devices, as having one super large tablet can be a bit "much" at times. I'm thankful for my Fold 3 for that reason, but wish I still had the S7+ for when I'm sitting on the couch. It was the perfect size for sitting situations, but I do prefer the Ultra for most other situations.
@@RADERTECH It really is. It's a great size for some casual games too like crosswords, sudoku, various "matching" games, and the like. I have to believe Samsung did a ton of research when deciding what sizes to make these tablets (just for all the iPad users to complain about 16:10 aspect ratio 😂). I find my S7 is the perfect size to throw in my bag when I'm feeling like going out but I'm not certain if a work-related thing might come up that requires my attention. It's just big enough to pump out a little bit of "serious work" while I'm out if I need to take care of something quickly (and doing it from my phone would take more time), but small enough to pull out in most situations.

@@RADERTECH A shame.. so its a NexDock then for a full size connected keyboard with the S8. I had reason to want the "Cmd + Lang" share keyboard functionality..avoid the need for a multi-client Bluetooth keyboard.

Thanks for stopping by. Sounds like your Fn key may be in the locked position, the light remains on if it is. That might be causing it. I'm away from my tablet, else I'd double check on it.

Brian, you had Spigen Tempered Glass screen protector installed about 2 weeks ago. What happened to it?!
Great question. There was a speck of dust that got trapped under it that caused an air bubble to never settle. It was tiny but I'm OCD about that kind of stuff. Totally my fault for doing an on camera install and not doing a quick close inspection off camera while doing it. So I ended up removing it after a couple of days. @@john7641 I most likely will within the next week or so, just trying to get some down time to catch up on things.
A couple tips to ensure a good install... Make sure your A/C or heating unit is turned off and you have no open windows or doors or kids/pets running around. Any air movement can cause a speck of dust to come in contact even right after you finish cleaning it. Next, hold the tablet up to a good light source right before you apply it, and move it around under the light. You'll see any little specks of dust this way. That's about it, you should be in good shape, just take your time and don't get nervous. I know, easier said than done, but it'll go fine. I've installed at least 50 screen protectors in my day without issue, but none of them while a camera was recording, that was the problem with my install here. Make sure you have zero distractions and it will be smooth sailing :)

How is the backlight turned on
It should be Fun+F12 to switch between the backlight levels. It doesn't get very bright in this keyboard.
The chacters on the keys are registering on different keys. Not sure if its is a malfunction

Ha ha, lmao! I can't argue with that, that's so funny. There's quite a few little things for new users to learn about this particular keyboard, especially when you start throwing in app shortcuts and stuff.

@@user-xi7lg3em8i Oh my, that sucks. So have you done the latest update? Where you connect the keyboard for 5 seconds, the disconnect it for 5 seconds, then re-attach it - it should prompt you for the update on-screen then. That updates is supposed to help with it.
@@RADERTECH yeah I did, and after connected to my own mechanical keyboard I realized it's a software issue.... where u have to lift the key all the way then push down it works.... But lift half way it doesn't....is urs the same.... Thank u for replying

No, no, no, let me explain... Pushing up from the bottom like that emits the same forces as having the tablet keyboard between your legs and pushing DOWN on the trackpad like you normally would. It was much easier to do it this way on camera than sitting it on my lap and trying to come up with a microphone solution to pick it up. If you end up getting the keyboard you'll find out exactly what I'm talking about. The trackpad accidentally clicks like crazy, too much so. Thanks for watching 👍
@RADER TECH I don't remember you emphasizing that it's an issue with NORMAL OPERATION, in that case I will look into it on my tablet, just got mine two weeks ago. I do see the keyboard STOP WORKING, on me, and the track pad TIMING OUT too, the Tab S7 Plus keyboard wasn't this bad, Samsung should know better.
