- Enjoy the Stunning views of The Moon in 4K HDR. We made this High Dynamic Range 3d animation of the Moon with color and elevation textures assembled by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission. svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/4720.
Technical Details:
Moon 3d model, texturing and render made using Blender.
Color and Elevation textures supplied by NASA: svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/4720
Exported as Linear OpenEXR.
Converted from Linear to HDR ST.2084 PQ 1000nits.
Color grading and color correction in Davinci Resolve.
HDR Mastering Monitor: Apple Pro Display XDR at 1000 nits.
What is HDR?:
If you watch this video on a HDR compatible device like an Oled TV, or a mobile phone like the Samsung S8 S9 and iPhone X, you will be able to see a High Dynamic Range version of the video. HDR basically means better contrast, greater brightness levels and a wider color palette. The idea is that your eyes can perceive brighter whites and darker blacks - greater dynamism - than traditional TVs have been able to display.

Hello everyone!, I made this new animation in HDR using the 3d software Blender. My goal was to make a 3D Animation with nice views of the Moon, and take advantage of the awesome contrast and brightness available with HDR. I highly recommend to watch this video on a HDR Oled TV or mobile phone with Oled screen, to see the beautiful contrast of the Moon, Sun and stars with the full dark background of space. I tried it on a LG C8 Oled TV and it looks amazing 🙂. I made this animation in Blender, for more technical info check the description. I will upload a longer version soon. Enjoy! -Julian

I remember being on an American Airlines flight to Europe with my family back in July1969. I was 13 years old and had found the latest issue of "Life" magazine on my seat. In it there were beautiful photographs in color showing the moon the earlier Apollo 10 astronauts had taken with their Hasselblad and 16 millimeter motion picture cameras as they were on a moon flyby orbiting mission in May of that year. I remember being awed and mesmerized by seeing close up shots of the moon as I have never seen before. I was a moon freak back then and it was my favorite celestial body next to Mars. This video reminds me of that time. The same month we were in Europe, The Eagle had landed on the moon. Thanks for posting.
PS: I ended up "borrowing" the magazine at the end of my flight.

Looks amazing on my Qled 85r all most at the same level as my oled tv. The blacks are a bit better on oled. But the color and brightness on Qled is superb. Oled and Qled both superb

T LOOKS GREAT FROM ECHO THE MOON IS FORMED OF SELENITE AND THURYTA SO IT SOMETIMES REFLECTS THE WHITE LIGHT AND OTHERS THE ORANGE LIGHT DUE TO THE BEAUTIFUL THURYTA (lunar rock) ... IF I FIT YOU VERY WELL
