Don't forget Randle played for Chris Finch. He said in his press conference he's excited to play in his system again cuz that's when he had his best years... Randle's words
Randle might get most improved tbh
@@bigbangbasketballno. Not a chance. He's been an All Star 3 of the last 4 years... He's not winning MIP.
Tim Connelly had an interview on KFAN yesterday, and he said that Finch loves Randle, and that basically this trade was a win-win in terms of potentially improving the team in the immediate future, as well as opening up more possibilities in the long term.
I have full trust in TC and everything he does, so I’m just going to keep trusting him and his moves.
@@bigbangbasketballhow? I really doubt he has a considerably better year than 24-9-5
@@bigbangbasketballcan’t, he already won MIP in New York. Also an all star & all nba player cannot be

Another thing too, Randle worked with coach Finch for a year in New Orleans and is saying he's the best coach he's ever worked with in terms of putting him in the best positions to succeed and getting the most out of him. That's another reason, health permitting, I loved this trade for Minny.
He's literally just talking... the guy is headed home to Texas next year.
Randle & Chris Finch resulted in 33 wins. "best position to succeed" lmao okay cope
@@jhank0cean lmao I'm good. Just paraphrasing what Randle said in an interview 😊
between the money situation and the incredible variability of KAT's postseason play, i think giving ANT a bigger chance to take the number one role and getting a good shooter and spacing our floor more is a much smarter move than the rest of the league is thinking it is
But what do the line ups look like? Is devencenzo the 1? And what do you do about mcdaniels who was a huge part of their playoff run? I doubt you pull him for Randle? And if you don’t and Randle goes to the 4, what do you do with naz Reid who I feel has earned a starting spot?
@@newsogn5148 Conley at the 1. NAW/Ant/Dillingham take up the rest.
Everyrhing is about randle
The Timberwolves are shockingly deep, especially if Dillingham turns out to be a playoff contributing bench player. I'm going to miss those Kat 3-bombs though.
I think shannon is the more likely contributor immediately
Not really Div is also a 40% shooter & Naz is improving at that three so I wouldn’t be too worried

We were already deep and added another rotation player with the trade, so I have no idea how they are going to play everyone. My hope is there will be plenty of garbage time on a regular basis, lol. Legit some of the best analysis of this trade. Addressed the primary motivation and dissuaded people who think this makes them definitively worst. Well done 👍
this is one of the best takes I've heard on this trade so far, nice work
Randle's ability to create plays when he's got the ball on his hands also opens up opportunity for Ant to play off-ball cuts. We already how fast this dude moves so giving another layer of creation for Ant definitely is a plus
They can stagger Randle minutes with ANT so you got two iso guys giving you buckets throughout the game.
Randle also very elite isolating in the mid or post up. Something they lacked with KAT. Get DVO as a shooter and defense and Naz Reid can shoot it.
Imo wolves could have also won it all this season with KAT too BUT that heavily limited their championship window due to the second apron and salaries with their young core. They traded KAT while his value was still high and got a good return in Randle and a shorter contract plus Divio on a really good contract. Knicks also got a center that can spread the floor. Weirdly a win win for both sides considering they both fill out each team's needs and want well.
This move means that the window for contending for the wolves is still wide open when their young core all hit their primes in a few years. Brilliant move that doesn't shoot themselves in the foot imo.
A national guy who actually knows what he's talking about.I love it!
I think people are still not realizing who ANT is
he is ready to be the #1 & #2 option 😂 & then you add the shooting from Donte
Naz & McDaniels are ready to go to the next level
Coach Finch & Randle have prior history together
The young energy of Rob & TSJ
Yeah they lost size but they are going to be running circles around teams with that speed
Both teams got what they wanted, it's a win win
Man this season is gonna be a blast. So many fun teams to watch. Ant bout to avg 30 🔥
As a Wolves fan, this is exactly what I thought about the trade, not as in-depth as you, but basically the same sentiment. I figured Donte was actually the player they wanted the most and Randle was an intriguing expiring asset that they can keep or trade depending on how he fits with the team.
I dont understand why so many look at Randle as a bad player or bad fit. Dude averaged 24.7/9.7/4.4 over the last 2 seasons, NEXT TO a dominant guard in Brunson. He is a 3 time Allstar, 2 time all NBA member (probably 3 times if he doesnt get injured this year). And yet, so many think the Wolves are worse.
1st He knows how to play next to a rim running, non shooting big, cause he has done it for the last 5 years. And pretty efficiently btw.
2nd He can score on any level. Yes he doesnt shoot 3s as well as KAT, but he can shoot. (34% on over 5 attempts for the Knicks)
3rd He can be a 2ndary playmaker and thats what the Wolves need, cause Conley gets up there in age.
4th MAYBE he is worse then KAT fit wise. But in combination with DiVincenzo this team isnt worse then before.
5th And even if they would be a bit worse... they are WAY more flexible now for Ant's prime, that hasnt even started!
If anything, as a Mavs fan and Knicks supporter (since Brunson went there) I hate this trade. I think the Wolves got deeper and better suited for the future. But the Knicks lost depth and lost all flexibility for the future! The Knicks are one OG injury away brom breaking down like last season. They have 8 playable guys for the PO (Brunson/McBride - Bridges/Hart/OG - KAT/Robinson/Achiuwa) at best... maybe 10 (Dadiet? Payne? Sims? hopefully at least 2 can be playable) for the reg season. And one of them is already out for months.
I really dont like this trade for the Knicks... I get why they neeed another C.
But couldnt they get a cheaper one for either Randle or DiVincenzo?
I've done this song and dance before, so I'll keep it brief: I love their lineup flexibility now
Congrats on 100k alex!
Thank you! 🤝🙏
Pretty great video. As a nuggets fan Connelly is really smart. I’m not sure this team is the Nuggets killer of last year, probably based on the idea they don’t have to be. A lot of teams have to depend on developing young talent more than ever.
I’ve watch various videos from multiple good NBA RUclips channels on this subject. This is the best one. I’ve learned more on this one that all the others together 😂
Two words. NAZ REID. Actuality though, if kat stayed then Naz and naw were gone. Now we can keep Naz and naw and likely ddv who combined are more impacted than kat alone. Not convinced Randle is in the long term plans
Wolves can't pay naw more than 8m a year regardless
With DDV here I think NAW becomes expendable… I love the kid but DDV, Dillingham, and TSJ are more valuable assets going forward.
U trade Rudy and start Kat & Naz 🔥
@@Steveooter Rudy is not tradable… who’s the market for that? As it was, literally the only team willing to trade for KAT was NYK, bc Thibs has some sort of obsession with him… trading Rudy was never an option. Also, Rudy is far more important to the success of this team than KAT was, as much as I love the guy… they will extend Rudy. Mark it
Naz Reid.
Their sneaky deep with trade assets.
Jr if he's smokin they keep him for a push. If struggling move him at the deadline.
DD is a great shooter who can spot defend 1-3 in mini does.
Bench you have Naz who finish if Rudy matchups are bad. Guard the best big when Jr on the court and give you 15-18ppg.
Dillingham/Shannon Could be good spot scorers 10-15mins a game. Miller has stretch 4 potential I like these wolves
I disagreed until I watched the video. You’ve convinced me. Great stuff
KAT getting Max and NOT being Ant's mentor was very bad. KAT getting MAX and not having smart things to teach ANT was BAD. KAT getting MAX and needing to be told by ANT to "Just Don't Foul" in front of the media was BAD. Ant was KAT's mentor, lol. SO Glad He Is GONE!!!!
What can Kat teach Ant. He is just as good if not better than him. You only teach someone who is inferior to you.
@emersonssbb - KAT is a max contract vet, he should be able to teach good habits and how to win games. But KAT is not a winning player
@@nydibs KAT is a Center. Ant is shooting guard. Only another shooting guard can mentor him. You dont see Giannis asking a shooting guard for help. He got Hakeem Olujawon for help.
Randle is a dog. So much better
Kat was most definitely a mentor to Ant. Dumbass comment
It'd be wild if the Wolves and Knicks met in the finals next year. Both of them are my favorite teams.
Lmao keep dreaming lmao

Thanks for actually looking at this trade logically. I’ve seen so many ridiculous takes.
I want everyone to keep sleeping so we can sneak into the 1 seed again 😉
Divenvezo is a poormans Steph Curry, so this was a steal for wolves
He's a poor man's JJ Redick
He ain’t a poor man Steph. He’s a 3 and D guy who can occasionally get you a bucket or a pass. They def needed him for letting ANY focus more on offense while giving defensive responsibility to DVO. Same time DVO can replace Conley or help that weak guard rotation. Conley past his prime and getting older.

Anyone who thinks losing Kat is a big loss from a playoff pov is just wrong. There were more times than I’m comfortable with where we were a lot better off with Kat off the court and naz taking his minutes instead in the playoffs.
$61 million for KAT? Geez...That is $743,902 per game.
Good stuff Alex
When I read your headline I thought to myself this is going to be BS! I could not have been more wrong! Your take and insight is by far the best look at the trade from Minnesota's point of view! Chemistry is my main concern for the Wolves because they had great chemistry last season and an unhappy Randle is bad for chemistry! Let's hope he stays happy! Fantastic job....appreciate the hard work....
Really appreciate this, thank you!!
great stuff, i've watched a lot of videos on the trade your insight is one of the best i've heard imo. liked and subscribed
Sincerely appreciate that!
100k!! you worked hard for it man. also, i love how much of an outlier Boston is on that 3pt chart lmao i didn't think they were THAT good
I don’t know how anyone thought this trade made the Wolves worse. KAT is great and I’m gonna miss seeing him in a Wolves jersey but are we to believe that Julius Randle isn’t a really good player? Adding a legit threat from deep. Like I said, I miss KAT but this was a good trade
This trade should be reassessed after a few years it is too early to decide what the grade for this trade is.
Randle might not be here to stay but he's a decent option whilst he is there.
Divincenzo is perfect for the Wolves. I can't believe the Kincks let him go tbh.
This isn't a win or lose trade on paper. Both teams improved weaknesses whilst not taking too many hits to their strengths.
The big questions are KAT's defending in NY and if Randle can accept Ant as the number one option and not take too many dumbass shots.
T wolves are easily better than the Knicks rn
Damn, I love that Cordarrelle Patterson jersey behind you! The GOAT! (I kid, I kid. It’s obviously Irv Smith Jr. 😂)
Thoroughly enjoyed this video man exclamation point keep up the great work
As a wolves fan who's wanted donte for for a while W trade . Even if Randle don't fit can just move him at the deadline but also a scenario where he's a good fit and signs a extension. I'm about 99% sure that first is traded at the deadline or on draftnight to aquire a pick or maybe they package naw & the pick to get better at a different position
Randle fits the Wolves playing style. He always plays fast but in control and prefers to press the rim rather than settle for a three. If the team needs a bucket, Randle has more ability than Towns. And Donate fills a need for a shooter. I think both teams and all players involved will benefit with the change.
Depth was a big problem they had last season and they couldn't add more with KATs contract. They got two good very solid players. Donte launches bombss form deep and sometime he is hitting them 4 to 5 feet behind the 3 point line. Talk about floor spacing!
Julius will be MASSIVE for the Wolves. Between him and Ant, this team is going to be aggressive as hell.
- Knicks Fan
2:35 Okay, but can we talk about how the Nuggets have by far the lowest payroll in the NBA, almost 50 million dollars behind the closest contender in OKC and they still "couldn't pay" KCP. I know that it isn't the most valuable franchise, but damn thats so cheap of them.
It could also be that he went 4 for 32 in the series against Dallas, 0 for 8 in game 3 just horrendous in the playoffs, idk about Randle or devencenzo, but dang dude the well dried up stop shooting was not an option for that dude
Necessary trade for both teams, very surprising most trades aren't like that and there's usually a win-lose or lose-lose situation
it sucks that we had to get rid of kat. i had more fun watching that team last season and playoff run than ive ever had in my life watching the wolves. the new cba is ruining the nba, we saw it take down denver and while mn will be fine, if we didn’t have such a smart gm in tim connelly that 2nd apron would have us in trouble
Great video
Thank you for the explanation.
But business is the business
It's like if you have 2 corvettes, 2 yachts, and a bus.
And you're budget can only afford 4-1/2 of these toys.
Ya gotta let go of one.
Everything in this video is true. The trade was necessary because the team is being sold and KATs' salary going forward is just unmanageable 2nd apron busting. Julius Randle does not provide the same spacing as KAT because he's not the best 3pt shooting C in the league. So, everything is matchup dependent. Last year their 2 7footers in KAT + Gobert were able to stop Jokic from destroying the Timberwolves and they Wolves won that series. This year they match much worse against the Nuggets because Aaron Gordon can guard Randle, while Jokic is on Gobert, and there's no KAT drawing defenders out to the 3pt line to clear the lane for ANT drives. However, the Timberwolves might not even face Denver in the Playoffs depending on seeding, at least until the Conference Finals, and this might actually make them better in matchups against other teams, like Dallas, the Lakers, the Thunder.
I don't think people understand that the financial reality of the wolves is just such that it wasn't a matter of if KAT was getting traded, but when.
KAT aint got that dawg to win a championship
KAT at his best is a top 20 player. I wouldn’t put Randal anywhere near that category and has always been
a good-stats-bad-team guy. His advanced stats back that up.
I like your style - new subscriber🏀!
You done your home work, and yes.. The wolves last year rooster is not good enough to had a ring, so get better and get depth. And it's good to had Randle and donte in return, if they can make it more agresif and more healthy.
I also don’t think we would’ve gotten anything close to this type of return for Rudy.
They just defeated the Nuggets who was last year's champion. They just lack the experience, they could have run it back for just one year.
Randle still gets guarded out on the three, cause if they do not, he can be a freight train and go down hill snd get to the paint and score via short mid range, layups or even pass since he is actually fairly good at it. So this pundit notion that we have less spacing with Randle is just false.
Also this team last season was #1 in 3 pt %. Yes we lost Kat. But also gained Donte who is equal in % and attempted way more. We also lost Anderson who was horrific from 3 after his eye injury summer of 2023. Randle same body type and can replace SloMo's playmaking. We also gained Ingles and Dillingham who are both over 40% 3 pt shooters. Both also ball handlers who can play make. And Dilly can create and get shots off equal to Ants ability in my opinion. I think day 1 Dilly has a top 10 nba handle. Kyrie being #1 on that list. Getting Donte also gives us flexibility if one of or both our 1st rd picks pan out and can play to trade Naw who is now redundant to Dontes skillset. Donte a better offensive player. Naw a better defender. But both essentially the same archtype. Could we trade Naw to a playoff team for a 1st round pick? Perhaps. If so, we then have 2 tradable first round picks plus still a fairly deep roster. Not a #1 bench after teading Naw but still a top 8 at worst. Since Donte and Naz are that good.
Win win trade. If Randle performs good then they extend, if he plays bad they let him walk and it opens up more cap space
Not just KAT, losing Kyle will also hurt especially in the playoffs.
What crazy about this take is the Wolves healthy may actually have a better chance to win a championship this year.Ant, Naz and DVO should be balling 💯🏀
People just hate on Randle cause he has an attitude.
People just hate on KAT cause he has an attitude

As a thunder fan I like the trade Kat had some of his best games against us a few seasons. thunder ⬆️
I’ve been saying this since the trade. The Wolves are substantially better after this trade.
So apparently all 3 player were completely blindsided by the trade
Love the video only thing I disagree with is that Randle is a better fit due to being a true PF I don’t think the Timberwolves wanted a true PF I think the two center system was the backbone of the roster construction
The cba turned things like the Kat trade into a reality alot of team will be doing in the future unless they are cool with no high draft picks & being extremely limited in getting better. Personally think wolves are a little worse at pf but are significantly better depth wise now arent forced to count on multiple rookies now Dillingham probably only rookie who even gets non garbage time minutes to start the season even can limit his role if he struggles out the gate like alot of rookie guards do .
We got KAT shooting with Dante and more of a bag in Randle plus 1st rd pick. KAT will give you a double double but with 5 or 6 fouls lol
Thank you for a nice video. Just a question, doesn't the second apron penalty for 1st round draft pick apply when the team is over or reamin at the second apron 3 times out of 5 years, not 2 out of 4? 🤨
The total would be 3/5, yes. If you were over the apron in one season, then you want to avoid being over the apron in two of the four following seasons, which totals out to 3/5. Was difficult to explain that concisely in the video.
@@AlexHoops Thanks for a kind response 👍
The Randle and Robinson front court wasn't bad, so I feel like the Randle and Gobert duo can do great. My only concerns are whether Randle's 3P shooting can be consistent and if any team might take him if Minnesota decided to move on.
The guy is an all NBA player and all star. 35 percent from 3 is solid, especially from your starting power forward. He will do what Kat refused to do: operate and score consistently in the post and make plays for teammates off being doubled in the paint, and he will get doubled...
You are half right. What the Wolves got for KAT will help them beat the OKC, Memphis and Dallas. Denver will struggle because they don't have depth anymore. All the CA teams and Phoenix are not going to be as good as OKC and Dallas. Even the Pels are without a Center and the rest of the West is still on the rebuild. This will help Ant go now and open up the salary to support Ant in the future.
Man u guys aint doing shit lmao smh
You also missed something everyone else is missing. Doesn't Durants contract expire at the same time as Rudys & Randles? Chess, not checkers.
Tim Connelly 🐐 Can’t believe this is real life.
What do people think the rotations will be? Will Donte take a lot of Nickiel's minutes? Or Rob's? Who is the backup center and the backup 4?
Even if randle didn't shoot 3 well, he is big enough to pose a threat inside..ant, Jaden and donte can do the 3 ball
You figured it out.
Wolves are the deepest team in the league and it's not close
No they don’t
@@Young_squeeze they have two front runners for 6moty with Naz Ried and Donte DeVincenzo, two all-stars Ant and Randle, DPOY Gobert + another top 5 perimeter defender McDaniels, and bench players who would start if they weren't on the wolves NAW, Ried, DeVincenzo, while they all are very good at one on one defense Literally all of them
And no ones speaking on our biggest gem, TSJ will be special mark my words.
Randle had a trade kicker of 15% so unless he agreed to waive it, Randle is making 33 million this season. Not 29. Which makes the people arguing this was a cost savings trade even more so illogical.
Edit. I am amazed you put this correct salary in the video. First person to do so i have seen.
Kat is on a 4 year Max Contract Randle could be off the books next off season.
Les 4 millions en plus constituent une prime contractuelle avec NY en cas de transfert payée par les Knicks et non les Timberwolves
Lmaoooo trading Rudy would’ve closed the window and made them a 6 seed with a mid defense
Timberwolves spacing will be reallly bad... Yeah I know Donte is a good shooter, this doesnt change the fact, that u have a frontcourt who cant shoot... Ant has to really carry them
Gonna miss KAT, but I’m excited for the season that my TWolves are gonna out together. Championship here we come! 💪😤🐺🔥
them with KAT still aren't a champion caliber team so I think its just right to let go of KAT's huge contract
What I'm curious about who initiated the trade (assuming it's the Knicks)
Is it really a good to trade off a big that can shoot threes when most of the league want that kind of talent?
Safe to say their roster is set? Or is there a chance they still flip Randle and bring in someone else?
"they" don't no wtf "they" are talking about
Why u take divincienzo out of the thumbnail lol
Twolves have two big guys who can't stretch the floor so Randle should start or no?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
cj mccollum and grant williams ruined the nba with that CBA🤣
I saw a nazreid license plate the other day lol
The trade was about the future but it did make us better immediately as well Timberwolves fans will understand
I like how the wolves beat Boston, and Dallas multiple times during the regular season. Then Dallas was unstoppable, then Boston was unstoppable against Dallas. It's all rigged!
Wolves already had a stretch big.
Seldom does an NBA trade work out for both sides, but I think this is one that will. Timberwolves are ready to go all in on Ant and make him the first player in franchise history to average 30 in a season. If Randle and Divicenzo can show the same hustle they did last season, Timberwolves will be one of the favorites to win it all this season.
I get that they had to move KAT, but julius, unfortunately is not a good piece for them. He plays ALOT of iso ball and hes playing for his next comtract. Hes gonna try to be an allstar again, which is highly unlikely in the west. Hes going to force the action and freeze out Edwards. He used to do it to RJ barrett all the time. When his shots arent falling he doesnt do anything else to impact the game (get a key block? A key rebound? Creating for others?). Hes gonna be a problem i can see it now, because hes looking for a big pay day. I can see the wolves benching him by the time the playoffs come around.
Don’t see that. Ant is the alpha male in Sota….if Randal doesn’t get on board he’s gonna be sitting behind Naz. That won’t be an issue.
They needed spacing, they got a top 15 shooter in the NBA. They needed more creation, they got 2 perimeter creators in the draft and a down hill creator. Honestly I think this a good trade, especially since they got cheaper as well
except donte won't start and julius can't space the floor well. their spacing got worse, not better.
I thought this trade was a clear win win
Nice work. MN will miss KAT
