Your 55k shortfall is similar to the reason my family got out of farming. We had to pay retail price for everything, but only got wholesale prices when we sold. Everything we purchased had a fixed price, everything we sold was subject to market fluctuation. While our cost for energy, freight, spare parts, labour, land taxes, chemicals and vehicles increased, our product fluctuated to the point where it was cheaper to just leave it in the ground. And now the interest on money borrowed goes up each month, our savings interest does not. Thanks Harry, just make sure you keep a family garden and a few head of cattle for your our consumption.

Completely understand the decision given the incentives. For the next 5 years however, I would be very surprised if those who can ride it out are not handsomely rewarded.

Maybe it's the politicians who want to control food supplies? Why are they buying farms for re-wilding and paying farmers not to produce. Are they messing with the weather?
      assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/883115/geoengineering-position-statement.pdf
Here is an extract from the governments views.
SRM technologies reflect some of the Sun’s energy that reaches Earth back into
space. Examples include the brightening of marine clouds and injection of aerosols
into the stratosphere. While these would be likely to reduce the Earth’s temperature,
they would not reverse ocean acidification (unlike GGRs).
So they are putting chemicals into the air. I am always told they're ice crystals.

I really enjoy your videos very informative. I’m a suckler farmer in South Shropshire and totally agree with you on government meddling. We farm without any payments and although I can’t access any grants or schemes I’m sure we are better off making our own decisions and farming to create a small income to sustain our hobby. My thoughts

Can you do a video how to operate the combine? Like a car review but on a bigger scale.
I sort of know how a combine works internally but I don't know what buttons to push and how to set everything up correctly.
There is probably a lot of knowledge to be gained from an experienced farmer that we non farmers can learn from.
It's always good to learn new things. I watch car reviews for super cars I will never own, I would watch a combine review even if I will never own one of those as well (but I would like to own both one day if luck permits).

A good break crop that we use may help you. We grow stubble turnips which we get paid £640 / ha from CSS then follow with spring beans which are cheap to grow and put nitrogen back in the soil. Fantastic first wheat after beans. Also you can graze the turnips which can bring in extra income and put muck on the land or just incorporate them before the beans hence a good amount of organic matter. Margin with CCS payment is the same as a good crop of winter barley !

A lot of folk voted for known charlatans. My concern is that people who fall for lies will never learn, how can they if they're so easily taken in? Next election they''ll be a whole new set of lies for them to fall for. I talk to my acquaintances who voted for Brexit and they STILL believe it can work, it's just it hasn't been implemented correctly! They cannot figure it out.

It's difficult to believe how short sighted this awful government is on food security. I would have thought they would have learned a lesson from what happened with energy. So short sighted and incompetent. Farmers want to produce food, that's what they're in it for, how frustrating and demeaning must they find this governments understanding of agriculture.
By the way Stanley looks to be maturing well.👍👍
