@modoc852 well that's great that you picked a 20lb rifle to lug around. You weren't carrying a 13 lb mortar tube + 40 lbs of gear in over 100 degree heat. That 3 lb difference bw a Garand & a carbine was a lot. Especially when most of these marines were kids & probably weighed 150 lbs.

@@Charles.The.Hammer they have failures typically because of old springs. Try buying a spring kit, it is so so worth it in every way possible! Makes the gun come alive again!
@@dompdompdomp The M-16 having malfunctions wasn’t due to the rifle itself. It had to do with the aluminum magazines that corroded in the humid temperatures of the forest, and the incompatible ammo that was sent.
I was assigned to the Seabees in Vietnam in 1970 -- we had plenty of M1s and M2s (full-auto was an option). They were great to carry in a Jeep or a truck or on a piece of heavy construction equipment. These carbines, plus a few M-79 grenade launchers -- and the odd Thompson submachine gun -- were all we needed while going about our daily chores. And the M1 was fun to shoot at the target range or in a pond out back of the camp.

To those who say this weapon is lacking in lethality I say think again. Unless the intended target is wearing body armor this round is potentially lethal out to 150 yards
