As a San Jose State Alumnus, Spartans have a rivalry with the Rainbow Warriors. I hope State of Hawaii can build a better than average stadium. I want Hawaii to continue to be a part of the Mountain West Conference. Hawaii is a perfect location for a postseason bowl game.
They can't demolish without great expense in Hawaii because trash is a problem. There's only certain water bottles allowed there and you can't even ship everything from Amazon because they have to consider what materials are coming in that will be trash later. There are laws against throwing away items that can be recycled. The elimination of trash is a big issue there.
They should build a low attendance stadium with only a lower bowl. It would be sick to see some cool scenery in the background. Their original stadium was damn near completely enclosed. It should be open and have great views 360 degrees around
The NFL reaped the benefit of Aloha stadium for so long. I think they should help fund a new stadium with an agreement of using in for the Probowl in years to come and maybe even see if MLS and or MLr would be willing to expand there too.
It not being connected works well for Hawaii imo. It allows you to see more of actual Hawaii. And I thought you were the main one that said you didn't like everything being connected into a "wall of seats" anyways
As a local in Hawaii who has been involved in Architectural, Structural Engineering firms and Construction Administration since 1976, the COR-TEN Steel was supposed to "patina" then create a surface that was supposed to protect the steel from rusting. What was never considered, was that we are an Island that is covered with a plume of salt spray. The COR-TEN wsn't designed for that. In a few years, it was suspected the rust wasn't stopping. Fast forward to about 2015, money was awarded and repairs were made, involving grinding then painting the steel. At about 2020 the Staduim was abandoned and several designs and finance packages, (building condos to help fund the project. Nothing has happened to this day. Toward the latter days, the greatest source of revinue are the Swap Meets on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
My brother lives in Honolulu. There’s more than just a football stadium complex that is being built. They supposed to be building a long monorail system going from Waikiki Beach to the North Shore. The finish just 10 miles of the monorail system & ran out of money. The main family who is trying to help fund the construction is the DeBartolo family who lives in Youngstown, Ohio
Before you say anything about Hawaii you should do some research. The rail is not going to the North Shore at all, not even close, nor is it going to Waikiki. 👎🏻👎🏻
It’d be really cool if the NFL would collaborate with Hawaii to build a whole shopping center and stadium, since they host the Pro Bowl there. I mean the stadium doesn’t need to be huge by any means, but just like building a Pro Bowl complex that’s a destination sight for fans…and allow Hawaii to play there.
Just renovate Aloha ffs, you dont need new stadium every 20 years dear Americans. In Europe we almost never build new stadiums, just upgrade old ones and no public money.
Blame inflation, plus no one wants another Waikiki in there back yard, and it’s more then football at the aloha stadium it’s also the gathering place for most of the high graduation ,its worst then that to ,I kind of wish they renovated it because cost about the same price
Hawaii needs to just drop FOOTBALL completely, this is ridiculous!!! What I don't understand here is, they don't have any other school or college to compete with in their state, why don't they MONEY!!! C-mon Hawaii, this doesn't look good at all for your state!!! This situation is embarrassing and it's sad, I feel bad for this kids!!!
They don't have the money because the government feels the money can and should be invested somewhere else within the state. It's a basic clusterfk. Hawaii is not in a Power5 conference and they pay travel subsidies for all teams that travel there including for their Olympic sports opponents in the Big West. Now add that Hawaii is expensive to do ANYTHING and it's government is inept....and that's what you currently got. Sad tbh.
@TheHaloRed I'M entitled too my opinion, just like you are? If you don't like it go fix it? Don't disrespect someone you don't even know? I'm known too CLAPP BACK!!!
There is an arena that belongs to the Oregon Ducks that is not in use anymore. It is called McArthur Court. The Oregon Ducks basketball team used to play there. They moved out to the new Matthew Knight Arena in 2011. Now, McArthur Court is used for the universities' physical education and recreation. IMO, they should knock it down. There is no use in keeping it.
Everything is cost prohibitive in Hawaii because they are 2500 miles away from everything, and because it's a Democrat shithole under all the surface palm trees and ocean views that God put there.
@@mjamitche5245 You’re spot on with that, I’m just talking about the school’s football program. Most of that talent plays college ball in mainland U.S.
UH should just cut the program. Focus on other sports. Cumbersome travel schedule for teams to fly there and back. Hawaii is a hot bed for HS football talent and should just focus on that.
The steel they used weathered very badly. That's really why it can't be used
Hawaii needs to go on the route of the MLS Stadiums. Small and covered seating

They did have a minor league baseball team play there, and Tony Gwynn played there while playing in the minor leagues.

I coached with a guy who played at UH in the mid 2000s (their golden age). Sad to see that program slide so much.
Whoever thought building a steel framed stadium in the middle of the Pacific would be a good idea.
What was the alternative? Not wood.

NFL no longer hosts the pro bowl in Hawaii
It looks like an especially bad version of the 1970s Cookie Cutters.
Miami built a beautiful “temporary” stadium for 60mil. The UH problem is simply VERY poor planning and management by their athletic department.
They might as well just keep the temp stadium, it's fine, if they can't get a new one up.
Beautiful stadium
Maybe the could build a permanent stadium at the track site and move the track stadium elsewhere on campus
Rust Never Sleeps
This stadium issue has been a problem since I was stationed in Hawaii back in 2010.

The parking lot of the old stadium is being used for a flea market
anyone else notice moana on the screen in the first pic?
The cost would be under 300k? Not sure this is accurate. The materials needed alone would far exceed that. Hmmm
I think he meant millions
@@StS9LBJ23 Yeah, must have. Honest mistake.
Another completely weird take around a situation that doesn't demand nor require anything resembling a massive investment in the stadium.

It’s similar to the Saint John’s arena situation at Ohio state.
Also, Nevada Wolfpack football plays at a track stadium FYI. I have seen no plans for a new stadium.

At least hawaii is not joining the big ten nor sec. Their stadium situation doesn't meet big ten nor sec standards.

I think they were trying to reward pro bowl players with a free trip to Hawaii. This was back before gambling blew up.
Go Bows!
I love Aloha stadium, I loved how unique it was and location of course was dream like. Again Ginger you have no taste but we still love you.
It’s a poorly ran state, and football is an after thought there. Plus they suck for the most part, just another FCS school with very few real fans.
I thought we have a good number of Samoan and Hawaiian players in the NFL.
