Hey I’m Josh from Adelaide, South Australia. I'm a proud father of 3 and passionate about heavy music.
I was the bass player for post-hardcore/alternative rock group Capulet from 2004-2012, releasing an album, EP and several demos.
Capulet were signed to Red Bull and the Taperjean Music Group alongside Closure in Moscow and The Mission in Motion.
Highlights of my music career were playing with amazing bands like Anberlin, Emery, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Haste the Day, Awaken I Am, and touring Australia several times.
I wasn’t the most technical bass player, but lived for performing on stage. I have always loved the process of song writing and the visual art that accompanies music.

This band is just consistently good. I don't listen to them too much, but they will always be on in the background when I'm playing No Man's Sky or Surviving Mars. They just blend the ambient/sci-fi sounds with metal so well.

Their music videos are more like short Sci-Fi-/Dystopian movies with a dark, technological vibe to it and they try to warn us - the humanity as a whole - that technology can be great and useful, but it could get dangerous when it falls into the wrong hands of people with evil intentions... Amazing concept and they will always be my favorite band!

Hey, nice reaction! 😎👍🏻 Trust me when I say this: STARSET is more than music, way more! They've created a full universe, especially Dustin Bates, who has Masters in electrical engineering and Aviation! He's a literal genius! Check out their immersive lore! Can't wait to see them in Germany soon!

Edit: He's got bachelor degrees in electrical engineering and a Masters degree in Aviation and almost a PhD, when he founded Starset after his old band Downplay!

There's extensive lore here, including a novel and a graphic adaptation of the novel in collaboration with Marvel. It's called The Prox Transmissions. The rest of the lore to date has been released mostly via music videos, and also with some printed and visual propaganda at shows (demonstrations) and on social media. Starset itself kind of *is* lore. The jist of it is that in the near future, over-reliance on technology and extreme capitalism bring humanity to the brink of total destruction. The band is like a spokesman of sorts to spread the message warning of man's imminent demise. Dustin is supposed to be Dr. Aston Wise from the story. The band started out not breaking character for interviews and such, but I guess even for almost-Dr. Bates (he has a master's in electrical engineering and almost a PhD in avionic engineering), the ultimate nerd, there is a line where something gets too nerdy, LMAO. The second novel is called A Brief History of the Future, and it comes out April 8. Some of us lore geeks have been waiting a loooooong time for it, haha. There is supposed to be a third novel in the works as well (the first book is way behind the music videos in the story) and there should be a fifth album this year. Vessels is my favorite album by anyone. Definitely check out some of the older stuff, especially from that era. The band is not in the music videos, other than Carnivore (because the label made them) and Dustin is in Halo for a few seconds. They are all cinematic and lore-based. There are a couple of animated ones too.
