I believe Peterson makes their lock picks out of 420 stainless steel. They call it “government steel” whatever that means. But Peterson picks are expensive and high quality. And lock picks have a design constraint in which they must be extremely thin (.012 to .026) and also extremely tough. They can’t bend and snap, but they also need to fit inside very narrow key ways. Sounds like 420 stainless is strong AND affordable
