There was a crazy old man screaming about killing Palestinians and Muslims as I was leaving the grocery store today. It's insane to see this sort of full throated islamophobia, I was born after 9/11 and now I feel like I can sort of imagine what it was like.

It was pretty wild after 9/11. Some bigot poured out gasoline at one of the local gas stations around me, and tried to ignite it, and failed. All because of the "Muslim" owners of the gas station (they were actually Indian).

On the Evangelical point-- Evangelical beliefs have a LOT of spillover into mainstream Christianity. My Christian family upbringing frequently mocked the "bible-thumpers" but also held a lot of specific beliefs that don't have a biblical foundation, only an Evangelical one. A good example is Purity Culture.

If you keep up with anything David Pakman has said over the past few weeks he’s been parroting that exact same phrase in response to the 10/7 attack, yet has he been remarkably silent about the Israeli government’s role in the displacement, genocide and death count of Palestinian civilians. Izreal seems to advertise itself as a Western-style democracy in the Middle East. But the more I observe Israeli politics, even in the pre-Netanyahu times, the more I am convinced that Izrael is more of an East-Central European country in the Middle East. More like Hungary or Poland's political vibe. And I would know coz I live in Warsaw. Also, the organization of the political system, a parliamentary democracy, which is very different from the USA's president-centric type of government, is the same.
Suppose you go to the Muzeum of Polish Jews in Warsaw. In that case, there is a room dedicated to Jewish involvement in Polish politics in the pre-WW2 era - it had the SAME political ideologies and types of parties (it was difficult for a Jew to get involved in most of the mainstream organisations, because of the antisemitism).

In Israeli newspaper Haaretz (their equivalent of the NYTimes, more or less) they report that between 75% & 95% of Israelis want Netanyahu to resign. There are Palestinians in the Israeli Knesset & on the Israeli Supreme Court. The surrounding states prohibit human rights for women, the lbtg communities, & any religious groups that aren't Muslim. One thing I just wanted to point out is not all “born again” Christians are Evangelical fundamentalists and not all Evangelical fundamentalists are “born again” Christians. Being a born again Christian just refers to people who became Christians and after doing such basically experience a sort of “ego death” which then results in them changing from how they used to be entirely and working on improving themselves morally. They’re basically just people who feel like Christianity helped motivate em to become a better person, and a lotta those people don’t fully support what Israel is doing currently. I would know because my parents are “born again” Christians, but they’re not fundamentalist evangelicals, they’re non-denominational. And while both of em, do agree to have their own land, they also think what Israel is doing currently to Palestine is absolutely dreadful and don’t support it. The fact that born again Christians and Evangelicals are even put in the same category just seems really weird and disingenuous due to how you can be a born again Christian in nearly every denomination while with Evangelical fundamentalism is strictly like its own category when it comes to categorizing different denominations

I think there is a kernel of truth to your argument about the nature of Israeli influence, but on the whole it doesn't hold much water. Strategically, Israel has been a millstone around the U.S.'s neck for decades, costing us massive amounts of goodwill around the world, notably in oil-rich Middle Eastern countries. Saudi Arabia, by contrast, has historically been of far greater strategic importance to the U.S., and indeed our government often does the Saudi royals' bidding, yet politicians of both parties can denounce the actions of the Clown Prince without reprisal, Congresscritters aren't pressured to sign statements of blind loyalty to the Saudis, and I can attend an anti-MBS rally without fear of being doxxed and vilified in the media.

I think one of the interesting reasons anti-Semitism gets forgotten by a lot of the left is that most Jews (not all, but American ones in particular) are fairly well off, one of the few examples of systemic discrimination being _purely_ ethnically based, in comparison to the intersections of economic and racial disparities other minorities have to deal with in the USA. That's not to say their wealth isn't also discriminated against; its only very recently that Jewish people have been able to enter the "halls of power" like white shoe law firms and major investment companies, its easy to forget for us Zoomers but the Jews that have lived in New York had pretty much their own version of everything because they weren't allowed into the WASP dominated industries. Tons of old hotels and resorts out in the Catskills were primarily owned and operated by Jewish businesspeople trying to give their diaspora a similar vacation destination that they were often denied by the Protestant brahmin of the Northeast.

The support for Israel among evangelicals accounts for a small portion of the "why?" I can't think of another political issue with smaller parameters for acceptable discourse at the elite level.

The only problem I have is with the idea that the default dumb thought is that "Israel is doing bad things" and "Jews are doing bad things" are the same.
Without outside influence, I think the default is not even realizing Israel is Jewish, because I don't think anyone knows fuck all about what Israel's whole deal is.

There's also the duality of Jewishness:
      Is it an ethnicity?
      Is it a religion?
Is it both? Exclusively or either/or?
Makes it vulnerable to attacks on many sides.
