I had one for years as a child. My Dad used them and gave me one for show and tell in school…I loved that thing. Of course, it’s gone, but it is cool!

Ives always preferred bobbers that stand up right like that. Very interesting process!

@@ModernRefugee It is incredibly stupid and not worth anyone's time. With that said, as I was flipping through the channels that was on and they were hunting down Porcupine quills just like the ones shown in your vid.
Just made me think of it.
Coincidence in the timing was spot on though.
Anyway, please keep up the great content and I love the old timer methods of doing things. This is the stuff and skills that will truly be needed in a long term situation. Needs to be remembered and documented before it is lost to time.
Kind of like the Foxfire books.

I have a couple of those somewhere in my mess? But yes it's a thing for sure. I have migrated to steelhead and salmon fishing these days. But with the right company I can fish for anything.

Before I started steelhead fishing we used to slay the white bass on the bad river in the spring.

would a light sanding of the quill tip allow the nail polish to cling better?

Suggest an undercoat of white paint or tippex to make the float, (bobber) stand out. fluorescent paint is always better over an undercoat of preferably matt white paint
