From a practical perspective, I would not want to ride a bus 20-30+ minutes every morning regardless of WHERE it's going (not to mention adding an additional 20-30 minutes onto the end of the day). That requires waking up even earlier and studies have shown that school already starts too early at 8 a.m. which is detrimental to children's mental health & cognitive functioning. I first saw a black person in 1966. I had one black girl and one black boy (his name was Samuel) in my second-grade class. I always chose Samuel to be on my kickball team because he would always kick the ball over the fence, and we would always win. It was the same time I first encountered racism. A girl in the class brought peppermint sticks to class one day and passed them out. the only people who did not get one was Samuel and the black girl. As a seven-year-old child I knew why she did not give them one. I changed schools the following year and that school had no black children until 1974 and there were no black people in the town, I lived in. However, we did have some black teachers. The black teachers were placed there because of integration. This was in South Mississippi. My dad was in the Air Force and he coached many of the military teams on base. We had a black guy on his fast-pitch softball team and his nickname was "Old Folks." I never knew his real name, but he was on the team, and I can see him now running those bases and sliding and giving it his all for the team. After the games the members of the team would drink beer and celebrate because we usually won. And "Old Folks" would be right there with the team drinking beer and smiling. And my dad would give him a big hug and tell him what an important role he played on the team. My dad was my hero and I often wonder what happened to "Old Folks."

What alot of people don't realize is that Louisville had two school systems. Louisville Public Schools and Jefferson County Public Schools. People who claim that "separate but equal" was going on in both systems. Not!!! I went to Louisville Public schools and we got what was left over by the county systems. Old text books old desks old furniture that was used. Lunch was provided by the school system. We walked to school and the only interaction with whites were school teachers cops and those who owned businesses in our community. I was blessed at the time to be in a school already a part of busing. We moved to the county so we weren't bused. But some kids were bused from West Louisville. And they went through it. Teachers who didn't want to deal with the need black students made up all sorts of things to keep black students at a disadvantage. Alot of these young people were put in special education classes even though they didn't have to be. I remember when we were coming back from visiting our grandparents who lived in Westpoint KY and on the home we ran into a "stop busing" protesters in the middle of Dixie highway and when we drove past them we were called everything. I was so naive thinking that people liked me. Now better either.
unfortunately unintended consequences have proven to be catastrophic - the neighborhood relationships have been compromised to the point people who live on the same street don't know each other - Jefferson co schools have been ruined by beurocratic decisions - sadly African Americans have been hurt the worst - The people responsible have all left town
Arriving to school on that first day, I was eight, and I'll never forget the parents lining the roads to school and around bus dropoff area. They had bats and weapons... these were adults we knew. Many parents boycotted and kept their kids home. My parents sent us everyday. It's crazy to watch this as an adult, disappointing to hear the comments from these parents.
Forced bussing to achieve so-called integration and an equal and quality education for all would not have been necessary and left to the Federal Courts and the Executive Government to implement if places like the Southern U.S. (and rest of the U.S.) would not have practiced racism and discrimination against non-Whites since the inception of this country.

America is much more racist against blacks than Canada and the EU . Why ? because America has a terrible history with blacks due to slavery segeration and lynchings , Canada did not and the UK EU did not . Europe blacks had more freedom than in America , American Blacks fought for their masters freedom in the revolutionary war and knowing they would not get their own unless they fought for the british. Honestly if the British won they would have ended slavery sooner and no jim crown . And White American Christian Racists have an entitilement problem . We lynched burned and maimed to control a group of people . Why ? Because of fear of them rising from Slavery . The Woman in the begining of the video ? Thats how racist white chiristians think ,

Same here i didn't know. Its ironic because Louisville is full of democrats right now destroying the area with their racial equality and anti police policies. Yet they are the real racists that created the injustices in the first place. There's a lot of racism still in Kentucky. Especially in southern parts like in the Kentucky lake (land between the lakes) and in Louisville even though there's a ton of African Americans there. But the majority of the state isn't like this.

I have to admit, that I did not know, nor thought in school about what happened in the USA during the mid 70's (daaa, it was communism until 1989 in Eastern Europe) , and since this is Black History Month, I've been educating myself on American History to learn how North Americans got here. I think it is extremely important to know the history of the USA to understand how history is CONNECTED. I have to tell everyone that I am against "Black History Month", just like Morgan Freeman, because the mind-blowingly terrible slavery is everyone's history both countries, USA's and Canada's history, If history divided, then we will be divided!! BTW, communism and socialism is equal to slavery, trust me, my grandparents generation were killed either physically or starved to death because there were NOTHING or punished (Hungary 1956), my parents generations where stripped from human dignity and brainwashed and they had to obey to stay alive, my generation fled as soon as we had opportunity, just ask an Eastern European.

I didn't take the same thing from her rant as you did, I believe she is honestly just somewhat ignorant and doesn't like the idea of the government forcing her to send her young child far away from home when there is a school right there in the neighborhood. You come off as a pretty intelligent dude but I think you are overthinking it. There seems to be an underlying feeling with a lot of blacks of distrust with white folks and obviously it goes back to the mistreatment and down right hate that was all to communally experienced by blacks in the past. Of course it still goes on at times but it is far, far less now than it was maybe when you're parents or grandparents were growing up and I also put a lot of it on the media because of course that's what sells. How we as Americans resolve this lack of trust and for lack of a better word "paranoia" from both sides, I do not know but it is unnecessary and it is further weakening us as a nation. BTW.. I taught most of my black buddies to dance lol!
What was she ignorant about? Her words ring true today. She was 100% right 45 years later looking back. Biden was on her side adamantly.
ignorance and stubbornness, when combined, are dangerous.....
Buddy is complaining that the govt is like the gestapo, but yet he tells you he is a member of the KKK?!?!?! Hypocrisy!!
1975 was not that long ago. This is crazy
And 50 years later, it has done nothing for integration or race relations. In fact it’s worse now in 2024 than ever. And thousands of kids are still bussed across town and arrive home late in the afternoon or early evenings. Only a handful of cities still do this since its didn’t help. The bus money should be
used to build new schools in
poor neighborhoods.

You could literally take out bussing kids and replace it with teaching CRT, and the conversations would be the exact same. America doesn't change
both bussing and CRT are liberal trash policies that only have created more division in this country,
@@SHUTTERSHOT45 CRT isn’t even taught in most schools and comes from college law schools. I think it is a red herring, as people have assumed definitions of it.
Probably because both are stupid.. reaction to stupidity will always be here

How is bussing and CRT the same? One is a curriculum and the other is physical attendance. If CRT teaches that Cleopatra was black, then we don't need it.

Excellent Film Footage Keep it coming Im a School Teacher I love this stuff

My dad was my hero and I often wonder what happened to "Old Folks."
interesting! What city in Ms?

@@RELopez-mk4ic Haven't been there. I like your story, Mine is similar -- opposite. only 1 white boy,1 white girl and one Indian girl in my 4th grade class. The boy was very poor & was REALLY into frogs and lizards (would even bring to school) and wanted to do some job in biology. I had a microscope. I brought it in just for him to play with -he loved it. Lots of the other boys were into sports. He was the last person picked for kickball everyday bc he was kinda goofy. His name was Samuel. The Indian girl's name was Jaswanda. The white girl was older, had failed a few grades, she told us about the birds & the bees. She honestly came in one day with a hickey on her breast & showed us.
Do you think a Kennedy kid ever went to
School with black kids?
unfortunately unintended consequences have proven to be catastrophic - the neighborhood relationships have been compromised to the point people who live on the same street don't know each other - Jefferson co schools have been ruined by beurocratic decisions - sadly African Americans have been hurt the worst -
The people responsible have all left town
I would of hoped that if people had heard the children, things would of been smoother
I never knew What this was supposed to accomplish. It’s the definition of communism. You can’t force people to like each other. Respect is Earned.

I was born and raised in Louisville, KY PRP as a matter of fact. I was born in 1971 but I have older siblings they were in high school during this time and yes they did make kids go to what school they assigned them too. I have twin brothers 10 yrs older than I and I remember one was in the advanced program and was able to stay in our area school but his twin had to be bused to a school in the west end and he refused to go. He went to work on a tobacco farm instead of being sent far from our area. I remember the truancy officer banging on our door and my dad standing in the doorway arguing with them.

Yea, because they were wrong? They were spot on. Blacks have been destroying their own communities for decades and running to the white man to fix it or dumb down our own society to make you feel included. Why should these people send their kids 30 miles away so the white kids can suffer "too?" They are all poor it's not a poverty thing.

I should have qualified. I thought all the bussing crap was just in the 1960s.
Thats how racist white chiristians think ,
Believe it or not .American blacks since at least the 70s were exempt from South African Apartheid , Yes Racist South Africa gave blacks from America more freedom than America, People dont know how anti black racist America is until they visit other nations.

I had no idea about this 1970s busing issue also going on in Kentucky( besides Boston Massachusetts). Thanks .
Yeah I live outside of Boston and hate the fact that people think it was just in Boston that this sort of thing happened.
My mother was bussed to Southern High and they were rocking her bus. To this day when she passes that school she remembers them waiting with bats and chains smh.
The issue was just as heated across the middle of the country.
It was all over the country.

It would be nice if today (21st century. year 2024) you could interview a lot of people (if they are still alive) who were racist at that time, and see if they are still racist today or not. Understanding all the changes that the US has experienced (Hippies, Vietnam, Cold War, etc.). It would be interesting to understand if American racism was due to the culture of the moment, or due to past history (past centuries) or simply due to bad customs (that take root in the people).

Great fact based educational channel as long as you let people to think on their own . I am a Hungarian Canadian was born in 1974 in Hungary during communism and we, Hungarians NEVER EVER had colonies nor had slavery on our land, in fact some of us were taken by the Turks and enslaved during the Ottoman Empire and lived under submission for 150 years on our own land, but I don't want to get into history, because I wouldn't able to stop.
