  • I shot this quick video in the hopes of giving folks my initial impressions of the KME Axe Sharpening Kit. On this video I discuss a bit about its function and show the progress I’ve made on one of my carving axes that needs quite a bit of attention. This system is great not only for maintaining the factory grind on your carving axe, but with a bit of patience you can also reset a convexed bevel to flat. Here’s a link to KME’s RUclips video demo of it in use:

    I picked one of these up because I have a lot of vintage axes and some of them have some questionable bevels from previous owners. Good tool for me to set the bevel angle to how I like it, and then much easier to maintain with a fine stone or strop. Thanks for sharing this, which led me to make this purchase.

      Is it just for the Arkansas stone?

      Larry Chronic Jr I personally use it on all the stones except the diamond ones. Seems to keep the them from clogging as much as they do when you use them dry

      You’re very welcome! There are ways to create your own jig too but, time being precious to me, I didn’t want to put in the necessary work to make my own.

    We’ll after 3 years are you still using this to sharpen axes? I recently purchased a carving axe but the edge is flat with a slight convex edge. Looks like they rolled the edge when hand sharpening…think this system might fix it😊

      Actually, yes! Every single carving axe I sharpen is done with the KME system. I’ve purchased a number of stones to compliment the system (probably too many lol). You’ll have to figure out which ones will work best for you.

    Do you know if this system will have any issues on a double bit axe?

    • @HuronSpoonCo
      @HuronSpoonCo  4 года назад

      I can’t say I’ve had any experience with double but axes. It’s possible that the magnet might be able to attach to the top of the head, but typically it attached to the butt

    To keep a convex edge. Use a yoga matt with wet and dry. Has you push on the edge you get a convex edge naturally. Why do axe makers give you a convex edge? Thanks for showing. Tormeks give you a hollow grind.
