They are just sitting there because they want to hear the song not the screaming that happens today. They are giving him respect.
I can understand that !!
I understand that he was very nervous because his parents were in the audience.
As a geezer who was around during this era, I agree. Different styles. Look at the singer. No gyrations or theatrical expressions. Everything you need is in his voice and what he shared of himself, not of some stage singer they told him to be. The people in the audience let his voice take them somewhere else for those few minutes.
People respected music more back then.
No phones just radio and live music on tv or concerts.
with only a few tv channels may i had..
Screaming happened back then, too... it was just directed toward The Beatles.
The audience is listening - it is called respect for the artist to wait until the end.
I understand!! There’s so much soul and passion it would be hard
spot on mate people had respect back in the day
amen the 60's era had utmost respect for the artist, not like todays generation.
the older generation audiences were that way during ballads - very stiff and formal - in time - the more involved audience responses - such as swaying - would appear in the white audiences - Bobbie would have been used to the old audiences and it wouldn't have bothered him - notice that he still gave an emotional singing performance
This was also a live performance as part of the Andy William's Show, so in fairness they may have been asked to do so. And don't kid yourself. Women went nuts for these guys. It rained panties.
PERFECTION WITHOUT AUTOTUNE!!! One of the greatest singers ever and one of the greatest most beautiful songs ever!!!!!
The audience is simply spellbound and in awe of one of the greatest singers to ever pick up a mic. R.I.P Bobby, you were and forever will be a legend.
The late, very great, Bobby Hatfield. No one will ever sing this song again like Bobby did.
Totally agree! The one and only Bobby Hatfield.
His voice became very rough within 5 years after they teamed up. It was like hearing a buzz saw where a violin should be.
You're are a sweet sight
These people are simply mesmerized by his talent.
Agreed
Love when he bit his lip at the end of the song….he knew he’d nailed it!
This is aLIVE Performance No acustics No doctoring No dubbing PURE VOICE PURE TALENT
To think he was actually nervous to sing this because his parents were in the crowd . Bobby owned it and scary how effortless he did it . Rip buddy
That’s what I heard someone else say
You left the sketch with Andy William's before he sang.....
He also had a cold that night. What a performance!
Its called respect, in those days we sat still and listened. If the artist asked us to clap or dance, or whatever, we did. I sat in an arena of 15k+ people in attendance. When ballads were sung, we were all quiet, respect for the artist and the audience.
It's called being mesmerized by pure vocal beauty.
Agreed !!!
Live....no autotune...... just PURE God given talent. Sooooooo RARE.
This was recorded live in front of a TV studio audience, and the producers of the show controlled when the audience could react. Clapping and yelling was forbidden because it interfered with the other audience people hearing the song. It was just respectful to remain quiet so that others could enjoy the song, including the TV audience. This was live, meaning the TV audience was seeing this the same time he was performing it, no tape delay and no auto tune. ✌️😎
Love these old songs with no auto tune where the performers went on talent and abilities. Great reactions darling.
Thank you so much and so do I
Greatness deserves awe!!!
This epic live performance back in (1965) on the Andy Williams show. Has become the performance that every recording artist is measured by. Bobby Hatfield of the 'Righteous Brothers' cemented it as the quintessential version of them all. It is the version every recording artist has used, and uses today. In this performance Bobby Hatfield was able to hit 20 notes...Unheard of for a live performance. Great and honest reaction.
I can also hit on those notes. But of course, you would have enough of me in the first 5 seconds seconds. :)
Walked up , cold to the stage, no auto tune, no computers. And his mother was in the audience and was real nervous!
Back in the 1960s/1970s, if/when you were ever been invited to a television taping, you were told to be still and silent until/unless the teleprompters told you to do otherwise.
I figured !! Thanks
@Hillary's emails to Lorne the audiences of those days didn't need to be told to keep quiet. They had a greater respect than many people do now. Beautiful performance.
The audience was mesmerized, in shock at what they were witnessing and hearing, perfection, a truly rare commodity. The octave range Bobby Hatfield demonstrated on this performance is a thing of legend and beauty. I defy anyone to improve upon this rendition, many have tried
While the studio version is very good, this live performance far exceeds it. It is not just the "vibe", which you noticed right away. Perhaps to impress his parents in the audience, he went for the gold here. Several extended runs leave one breathless. That's topped off by his show of range in reaching the high notes. Compare the final 10 seconds of this to those of the studio version. There is no comparison. He reached a crescendo and held it -- a quite strong ending. Here, he reached the crescendo and manages to take it higher. You think, "Wow, that's amazing." But he's not through yet and closes by bringing it even higher. All that with his voice never straining. The kicker to me is his smile in the final half second. "Nailed it." "Mom, do you still wish I were a dentist?"
Yessssss !!
r0kus I never knew his parents were in the audience. That’s cool.
je partage à 100%, cette version live est incroyable et la fin magistrale manque à la version studio !
I downloaded the studio version. I looked all over iTunes to purchase this live version but have yet to find it available.
This is what is called Nailing It! No voice fillers. Just amazing...1965 to 1975 was IMO by far the greatest music era from rock, soul, folk.
Brother has soul!
It's been over 50 years since the first time I heard this song and it still seems raise me above the chair while he sings. This is an amazing song.
It really is
@@SimplyKSimone Bobby makes it amazing, Before, it was just a pretty song.
Yes it's live ..its wat u call true talent lol
This one deserves ten thumbs up
What people down below already wrote: It's respect for the artist. You'll witness the same phenomenon when John Denver sings live (rip). Guess you could call it being in awe in the presence of true performers.
It was a live TV show program , Audience keeps quiet until the applause sign comes on
You are correct about John Denver as well! Both amazingly beautiful singers.
His parents were in the audience and he'd been nervous before he began. Didn't matter. He was great.
His parents should have been the PROUDEST parents in the Galaxy! Bobby Hatfield was beyond Perfect, it's as if a God was singing.
Great reaction. He is singing with the angels mow.
🙏🙏 Thank you
Yes this was a live performance on the Andy Williams Show.
Cool
During the 1960s, TV performances by music artists were widely varied, in the sense that they were limited by the show's ability to get a clear audio signal on the videotape. Show studios and halls, where TV shows were made, sometimes had terrible acoustics, and the music artists were not allowed to perform the song live. They had to lip-sync from their record in those cases. The audio staff at "The Andy Williams Show" was a very good one, and were able to allow their musical guests on their show to perform their songs live, in the way the artists intended for them to be heard.
@@LaptopLarry330 but this was 100% live and absolutely amazing.
Hey, I used to watch that! Used to love Andy Williams and his brothers. As for the audience, put it down to enamoured rapturous attention.
If it didn't give you chills and move you..you're dead!
Studio audiences never clapped until the end of the performance and that was pure raw talent. God Bless
The voice of butterscotch syrup drizzling over an ice cream sundae...
Yesssssssssd
Perfect explaination
Yes this live version was sheer magical. Bobby Hatfield owns this song no one can touch his performance it was effortless, smooth and sheer perfection. Many Artists before and after him have done this song but no one will ever compare to his live performance. NOT A RECORDING this was a live performance on the Andy Williams show there were no do overs just his amazing voice and a small microphone. Thus was his true voice Many fell in love to this song and with him ❤ Glad to see the younger generation appreciate this music Thank you. LISTEN TO BOTH THE RIGHTEOUS BROS PLAY YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING (live) and YOUR MY SOUL AND INSPIRATION.
Straight-up live!
Just him with a mic and that amazing voice!!!
The audience was as captivated by this performance as we are....just a great live performance!
Agreed
This version is over 55 years old, and it’s still as good, if not better than a lot of today’s music ! And remember, there was no such thing as auto tune back then, this is just pure , raw talent !
Being there they had to have been mesmerized by his vocal talent. Totally in awe.
Very true
I remember hearing this song first in 1965 on the radios in the base camp/camps of Vietnam when I was with the 1st Air Cav and later the 10st Airborne. Great song, brings back some of the very few good memories of that time.
Love when music can take you back 💙
I hope that the good memories can bring some healing. 🎵
One off the all time greats,
I agree !!
Understand his partner Bill Medley was in audience as well as his parents. This was on Andy Williams Show, so yes, live but totally different from regular concert audience. BTW many have recorded this song. It is beautiful whoever does it but I think Bobby was born to sing it. ❤
Good to know !! Thank you
@@SimplyKSimone 😘
Incredible performance, his parents would be very proud, best male live song. Just pure talent,. Thanks Bobby. RIP
Bill was in the wings with Andy Williams and came on after to shake hands etc, it was live, no gadgets at all, just pure talent, watch the whole clip when all three were on stage before he sang.
God Bless Him One of The Greatest Songs of all Time , Did You See That Great Smile at The End
Yep... that’s him singing live
When someone this good performs you dont ruin it with hooting and hollering, not needed. You can show appreciation after the performance. Used to be like this but not in this day and age.
I think I’m being taken wrong I don’t expect anyone to yell but the song is so amazing there’s no way I can be emotionless which is what they seem to be !
Hi , the audience are moving , it's on the inside and it's 💞 that are moving . peace n love from the UK . 🖖
Mr Bobby Hatfield, what a wonderful voice. Bless him in heaven. In 1965 the crowds waited too the end to appreciate the talent.
I'm late to the party, but loving Bobby Hatfield's live performance of Unchained Melody on what looks like an old Andy Williams Show. These Righteous Brothers songs have withstood the test of time. Classics! Thanks for showcasing this great music!
When a vocal pro GENIUS like Bobby Hatfield sings...you are totally focused on every note & phrase, completely enraptured by his near supernatural...GIFT!
Yesss
It was a TV audience not a 'concert'.
The over the top reactions din't really start until the Beatles.
But even in their early video's you can see fans sitting and listening.
Sweet, sweet moment as he finished the song...he bites his lower lip and looks up shyly...he knew he nailed it!
I smile when women react to this song...they smile...their eyes sparkle..they lick their lips and touch their hair...they tingle ALL OVER...😊
How to sing a song, true greatness!
1965 live performance, no autotune or digital enhancement (because it didn't exist yet!) Just a amazing vocalist. He actually was dealing with a head cold at the time which you can hear hear if you listen close.
I was 15 years old when I watched him sing this beautiful song 1965 on the Andy Williams show. He was so awesome and handsome. As a teenager we all fell in love with him. This is his song!!! RIP Bobby!!! ❤❤❤❤
These guys were something else they also had great eye candy, listen to this old 73 old lady we loved them,I remember when I was a tiny bopper and learning how to dance my brothers friend had me stand on his feet to learn how to dance. I will always remember that.,when I hear that song thank you for letting me share that with you all. 🙂
The music is so good that they wanted to hear it. Also back then they didn't drown out the artist with fan noise.. meaning that they wanted to enjoy themselves instead of making a fool of themselves.
Little lady,
Your smile is all I needed to see. Thank you for sharing with all of us❤️
Truly one of the best vocal performances ever, that man had the pipes and the soul!
I've seen other females had big smiles on their faces after hearing this classic song
I've heard this a thousand times and I'm still crying like a wee lassie
Beautiful
There were two reasons the audience reacted the way that they did. First, this was a TV taping of a variety show that was going to be broadcast at a future date. The show's staff told the audience not to applaud until the end of the performance, in order for the performer to be heard by the TV audience on the videotape audio track. This was a common practice for variety and music TV programs at that time, and still is to this day. Second, Andy Williams was a pop singer, and the host of this show. Most of the audience were Pop music fans, and tended to be older people. They were not the teens and young adults that were in attendance for Rock acts, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Supremes. Although The Righteous Brothers were a Rock/Soul duo, and had a lot of teen and young adult fans, they also developed a an older-Pop fan following, which was why they were booked to perform on "The Andy Williams Show".
20 notes. He sang a 20 note range. That's an octave and a half. Most singers who are GREAT can sing a full octave. Bobby was a once in a lifetime talent. That's why this hits people like it does beside the fact he sings like singers try to do with runs now.
anyone who has sung the song "Doe, Rae, Mi" has sung 1 octave - it wasn't hard was it - this guy doesn't know what he's talking about
I think Bobby sounds like an angel in this performance! If you don't agree, then you need to have your hearing checked! 🎸🎹🎶😘😁🇺🇸💓
Bobby was one in a trillion.
Bobby had a three and a half octave range (B2 to E6) In this song he covered more than two (B3 to G5) and was well within his range.
No auto tune needed just pure natural talent.
Back in the day audiences were told to sit still. They were taught listening to musicians was the height of showing them respect and how much you enjoy the music.
We need a review that really appreciates the accomplishment here.
I get goosebumps whenever I hear this song. In my opinion, it is the best song ever recorded. Hatfield was a TRUE artist when it came to music and his voice was and still is incomparable! When he died, the epitome of music died with him.
Agreed
He died, but the wonderful music which he created is gratefully living on through technology, and these important reaction videos. 🎶✨
It's real and it's live, no auto tune, pure talent, nobody today can come remotely close.
Bobby had this song "in his pocket." He had sung it several times when with his first group, The Variations, and also with The Paramours. Bobby first made it better for the studio recording, perfect for the Andy Williams Show.
They was just sitting there because they were probably mesmerized.
Because back in the day, you waited until the performance was done and then you showed your appreciation!
I Cant Believe anybody In The World Would Give This a Thumbs Down , One of The Greatest Songs In History
🤷🏽♀️ me either
His beautiful sound was known in the 60's as "blue-eyed soul". His voice draws out emotions now, almost 60 years later, as much as it did then. Your reaction is priceless!!!
I never get tired of hearing him sing he has a beautiful voice
No auto-tune no electonic gadgets you had to be able to sing
Glad you enjoyed that, because this was performed on television The Andy Williams Show people were respectful enough to want to hear the performance plus reactions were controlled by producers of the show so as not to ruin it for those who weren't there in person.
Every queen wants her man to serenade her with being able to sing like this
Most of their love songs made women swoon. Listen to "Lovin' Feeling", "Soul and Inspiration" or even their early recording of "I Just Want To Make Love To You" which is down and dirty blues. Women today seldom get to be serenaded with songs like these.
I can’t imagine being that good at something
I can't imagine being THAT good at ANYthing.
I think also to do this cold basically, for live tv, should be considered in the greatness of it all.
If you want something really interesting, check out Todd Duncan singing part of this song in the film it was written for - Unchained (1955). He was a trained opera singer who purposely sang with some "rust" to make the scene it appears in believable. It's just kind of fun to compare what it originally was intended, to what the Righteous Brothers turned it into.
Thank you for your re-reaction. Yeah, back in the day they applauded in the beginning, slightly swayed and swooned quietly during the performance, and applauded at the end. It wasn't until the Beatles started something completely new in fan participation of nonstop screaming and wild pandemonium throughout their performances known as Beatlemania
You want to know why the audience was screaming remember, first off, this was 1965 when people were more civil and respectful. This was a live taping of the Andy Williams television show. It was being recorded. The audience was probably prompted to "hold their applause" until after the performance. This was not like a 'concert' where its a free for all, yell & scream, stand-up in front of everyone and do the bump-n-grind, blocking their view, etc. This was filmed in a television studio.
No it's his voice live
The ultimate in Blue-eyed Soul........Bobby Hatfield nails it.
Good choice to do the live version. It's sooo much better. They didn't go "clapping" and moving around out of respect because back then fans respected the artists.
He had almost 2 octave voice range, yes he killed it never to be repeated, covered by 670 artist worldwide and nobody has come close to his performance not even Elvis.
Actually, he was a countertenor with a six octave range.
@@barbarakennedy2667 B2 to E6….. three and a half octaves. Which is still pretty remarkable considering most singers have two or two and a half🙂
Can't say it enough...best slow dance song ever! I know I am not the only person with soooooo many great memories 🥰
They are in awe of the awesomeness.
This is one of music's BEST songs ever written. And it still hits people in a very emotional way. I love this song.
I absolutely agree
Believe me, the audience was mesmerized, but that’s the way audiences behaved back then. They showed a lot of respect for performers, and they stayed silent, but you can believe there were tears streaming down their faces because Bobby put his heart and soul into that song.❤️ At the end of the performance they showed that they loved the performance by clapping, and sometimes it went on for a long time. (BTW, I loved your reaction. I love when people react by smiles, etc. instead of talking during the performance and stopping the video too many times)
When he finished this song his partner Bill and Andy Williams the host of this tv show joined hm. They do "what'd I say ". Shows a completely different side of Bobby Hatfield singing, a bit of dancing in place and a lot of goofing off. Google Andy Williams and the Righteous Brothers what'd I say. You'll love it
Wow he was amazing
Yessss he was
So good to see you follow up your studio version reaction with this live version. I love this live performance. Cool to see you really getting into it. Great reaction
This is absolutely a live performance, people back than had respect and class. I'm sure every woman in the audience wanted to wrap their arms around him.
Great job listening to comments. Chris Stapleton ( present time) is another singer/ songwriter that live versions are the best way to listen/ watch. Truly great singers don't need autotune or background music.. the true tune if the voices , even the imperfections are best listened to live.
Yes I love Chris !! I’ve reacted to him a lot
The audience is actually listening. When greatness is performing, people usually are respectful and in those days the audience understood that it wasn't their turn to be heard.
Simone you are simply absolutely so very beautiful just watching your reaction to the song.... i love this song as well
Oh thank you so much man I appreciate it
Totally best version of all time
this was performed on a live t v show Andy Williams show. this is how we knew how to act back in the day. love that you have discovered MY music. love your reactions.
Great reaction & I'm glad to see so many younger people discovering all the amazing music I was lucky to grow up hearing. i was born two years after this performance, but I always heard it played at home & on the radio. It's been one of my all time favorite love songs since I was a young kid. This song has been covered many times by many great artists but Bobby Hatfield's version is probably the most well known & beloved the world over. It was used as the main love theme for the movie GHOST starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, & Whoopi Goldberg (she won the Academy Award for best supporting actress that year). This was definitely Bobby's song as no other can match his performance - so silky smooth & melodic, such a one of a kind ethereal voice that can make any lady (or man) swoon - LOL! Keep in mind also that he did this on live TV. This was back in 1965, years before any computer aided autotune. This is what we call Blue Eyed Soul. My late uncle used to call this & other love songs like it from back in the day "a guaranteed panty dropper" :-D
Your doubt that this is "Live" is resolved by the applause at the start and end of the performance.
Just him, a mic, and this beautiful song, and a nation fell in love with Bobby, the greatest singer in the 20th century or any century.
Yess
I had seen The Righteous Brothers in concert. They were awesome and Bobby Hatfield (singer in your reaction video of Unchained Melody). Bobby sounded just as in the video and seen it live.
Luv you girl. Fantastic song of an era gone by. That was music.
