    My daughter had mental math last week. I couldn’t for the life of me comprehend and break this down for her. I even had a group of coworkers try to help me comprehend. We were all puzzled. It still feels like a bit much.

      It can be daunting. But, it's valuable! For K through 3rd grade, you can use 1 and 2 digit numbers to practice, like 9 + 9, 9 + 8, 19 + 6, etc. For 4th grade and above, you can practice with 2 and 3 digit numbers like 29 + 6, 299 + 99, etc. Let me know if you get stuck and need guidance. :-)
