You can check your research progress in the pause menu where you can also check the map. Remember to use Telekinesis against the Rumbler when they shoot their missiles at you and throw them right back. You can do the same with spears. Using the mini-turrets from your hack tool is very useful when you gather ADAM.

One thing you can do is before you finish off the main objective of the level, you can just go around hunting and researching Big Daddies to complete their research quickly. A lot of people forget to research a Big Sister before they fight them as well.
