This is actually the second time Sam has torn her ACL she torn it in 2011 so hopefully it is not the same one or that could extend her recovery time. As a Aussie I am devastated as is the rest of Australia and wishing her the best of luck❤❤❤
I was shocked & gutted when I heard this news ! Carrying both teams , club & country has been too much pressure on her physically & mentally in my opinion .
Hope she makes a complete recovery & comes back as strong

Couldn’t agree more. The number of games, the travel & lack of rest is simply not sustainable. The more successful you are (as Chelsea is) the more games you play. It’s not a coincidence when you list ALL of the players who have torn their ACL that most of those player’s all play for club & country!!
I'm not a Chelsea fan, but gutted nonetheless on Sam's injury. So many top players raptured their ACL's, especially before big tournaments.
I also watched the Step By Step documentary and although there is still no explanations on why women rapture their ACL's more often, (mental) fatigue is possibly involved. Sam's travel schedule in the past few weeks might ülay a part into the injury.
It's definitely fate that Kristie is now in London there for Sam. I hope that Sam will have a fast and full recovery.
Interesting to note is also that Sam's contract with Chelsea is expiring at the end of this season.
I am SOO sad. I was very excited to watch her in the Olympics since I can't watch Chelsea games, but now . . . 😭😭😭. I'm still not over the injury and feel so bad for her. But now I'm very curious what Chelsea and the Matildas will do without her (and how to *replace* her) Also, the coincidence that kristie comes over, and the engagement party happened, then sams acl. . . at least her and kristie can be there together ❤❤❤
Gutted for Sam Kerr, as I was for all those players who missed the World Cup, and especially as Emma Hayes is leaving. Glad Kristie is there to help her. Wishing her all the best for a speedy and full recovery. Wonder what will happen when Sam`s contract is up this year. Hope they can get a real answer soon for these ACL injuries, it`s got to stop.

Like Beth said in an interview it's not just a matter of men's or women's boots. Everyone has different conditions and there isn't a boot that could fit all women, even when specially designed for them. She also said that she has worked with Nike to optimize her boots, but I guess not all the players, especially not in big teams and with high profile, can get this benefit.
I genuinely shed tears when i saw the news as a Chelsea fan...we will never see her play under Emma Hayes and even maybe play for chelsea again (if she doesn't trust extend)
There was mention of her trips during the break but she had two away games one to Sweden and the other to Bristol City to add to her travels from December into January. I remember watching an Instagram post from Chelsefcw and someone posted that she looked tired. Fatigue, not to mention that she isn't the "young" player anymore and the fact she was not yet fully recovered from the calf injury, that could contribute to her having the injury. Nike had an interview with Fran Kirby (she has had her share of injuries lately) and it was mentioned that they are looking at shoes specifically designed for women.
OMG i didn't realize all that other travel! Yeah in her pics in Morocco she looked very tired. Not surprised if that had a major impact on this. Gutted but I think she pushed her body a bit to far. Also, I didn't know that about the boots very Interesting! Thanks!!
Im not sure if you guys know, but Sam also knows what ACL recovery is like. She did her ACL in 2011 when she was 15. Not sure if its the same knee or not.
Theres a great book i dont know if you have read it, its called "Roar" by Dr Stacy Sims. Talks all about womens fitness training and excercise and how most training is planned and designed to male bodies and is not suitable for women and it could be a link to why there is so many injuries in womens sports ("Women are not small men, and we should not be training like one"). definately worth a read.
OH wow thank you!! After i made the video live I googled something and that came up that it was her second! I had no idea! Oh wow we will look into that book! I feel like the change is coming where these clubs figure out how to train and manage the load just right for these women! They deserve it!
I was straight up devastated!!! I still really can't believe it. The timing breaks my heart, the wedding, the Olympics, new or continued contract with Chels. We have to get to the bottom of this issue. I personally think it's a combination of many things. Just gutted for Sammy and for the sport really.
She has alr done her acl a long time ago and came back well so I think she knows what she’s doing. So gutted for her 😭. They do train them too hard tho pls like this comment so she can see it
Hello Sara and Sarah. On another channel's report of this, I read a comment about how Alexia Putellas has gone from being like Messi to the Barcelona fans to struggling to get game time. I think that there will be a "New Wave" effect, for those of us old enough to remember Punk first time round, as young players steal the show, like I recently commented about Paris FC.
Just awful news. Extremely difficult player for any team to replace, but sadly Australia doesn't have anyone that can come anywhere near close. And to happen a half dozen weeks after an ACL injury to 20 yr old Holly McNamara, who might be a glimmer of hope as a future star striker, is extra painful as an Tillies fan. So glad Sam and Kristie are in the same country now, to take away some of the recent stress!

As an Aussie & Chelsea fan I am devastated for Sam. In hindsight, I do believe that things happen for a reason and the fact that Kristie is now in the WSL is a huge bonus for Sam. I believe she was meant to be there to go through this with Sam. This is her 2nd ACL so she knows what to expect with recovery, etc. Sam is a very positive person and is excited about planning their Wedding together. I also think that this will help extend her career. The pace & number of games she’s played for club & country in just the past 4 years was not going to be sustainable. Obviously no one wants 9-12 months off but I think the rest will do her the world of good. I’m 🙏🏻 that her recovery is routine with no setbacks. I also don’t believe they will alter their wedding plans at all ❤❤❤
It’s extremely sad times for Australia 🇦🇺 and Chelsea 😂, we losing the captain. As soon as the news came to Australia, the first thing went in my mind is that Sam has done very extensive travelling in a very short period and Perth weather conditions did not help since Europe has winter ❄️ and than warm weather training in Morocco, also she had injuries past 6 months. Hope she comes back healthy and stronger ❤💙
So sorry to hear about Sam; thanks for the info. I'm sure she'll bounce (or backflip) back in no time. Any chance of mentioning the Rachel Daly/Sarah Mayling romance at Aston Villa? Mayling is a lifelong Villan, despite playing for rivals, Birmingham City FC for a while. I think it's great that they're dating, because it might mean that Daly stays at Villa, instead of moving to a more glamorous club.

I have been wondering about why has been taking so long for press and Macario to get back compare to the Europeans, could it have something to do with the national teams and league teams support, and the medical system.

When I first saw this, I was sitting there thinking .... Sam is 30. She has to heal up and then she has to get back to form, however long that's going to take... Is there a chance that we don't see her back as that monster of a goal scorer that she's been throughout her career? It would be absolutely sickening if the end of the prime of one of the greatest we've ever seen is spent in rehab and she just never makes it fully back.
It honestly depends on the athlete. I would think rehab is usually the same generic program with some modifications.
Some players come back totally fine and others are never the same.
I'm sooooooo hurt , I cried really Sam just as we about to start our games but Chelsea has amazing players. hope for the best for Sam

When uswnt lost at the world cup my coworker asked me about it some since he knew I'm a fan and he was basically like "well who cares about it with the Olympics next year?" And I was like "you have those mixed up, you get stars for world cups and nothing for golds."
OMG Yeah! I guess it would be like in baseball. I don't think many people care about A Olympic gold medal in baseball. I mean I do but do most people? (i don't even think they have baseball anymore lol ) But The USA not really understanding about the importance of the world cup is still mind blowing!
So so devastated for Sam! I’m a big Chelsea fan and was going to go watch them play Arsenal in England but am rescheduling lol but I’m upset because between the World Cup and it being Emma’s last season it’s heartbreaking. Luckily Kristie is there to help nurse her back to 100%!

Sam Kerr could still be selected for the Olympics just like Kyah Simon was selected for the world cup roster 8 months into her acl injury but even if sam can't start yet she could be used as a last minute sub or for penalties and receive her gold medal🤩🤩🤩

Sam is such a monster on the pitch and a class-act off of it... It's just heartbreaking to see injuries plague her otherwise illustrious career-- but I know she will be back... She's too bright of a star.

Completely agree, Sam is awesome!! Considering that rotten run of injuries 10+ years ago she’s had a great run and she has won just about everything you can possibly win during that time. But her body has reached its breaking point and is forcing her to take a break. 🙏🏻 that she has a routine recovery without any setbacks. I’m also glad that she had a Wedding to plan which is exciting for them!! She is too bright of a ⭐️ & a determined one, she’ll be back better than ever!! 🤞🏻❤️

Bottom line: Football just ain't gunna be quite as fun to watch without Sam Kerr's involvement in thee game (no matter who you support). Also, Fran Kirby worked with Nike recently to develop a boot for women, her signature shoe, so hopefully changes are a'comin more at least with that element in the equation. Maybe it'll kick off a trend of player signature boots!
