Hey Damo. on all our gensets at work we typically have a fitting with a jic cap at the end off the oil drain hose for the very unlikely case off your oil drain valve vibrating loose
Great progress. I would suggest making plaques that indicate "No Oil-Don't Start" for engine and gen set that you can put on bridge and in the engine room. If you get called away and forget, it can get expensive. I also put date and hours on filters so you have a backup reminder.
I hope it is not a sore subject, but I sure wish you still had your dog that was so special. I know that it was wonderful dog and is impossible to replace. Nonetheless, it would be great to see such a canine interacting with you. All the best to you, cheers!
In oil, the "W" stands for "Winter" using the SAE nomenclature. In this case it has to be lower in viscosity than the standard for SAE15 oil at 0C. Then it has to be higher in viscosity than the SAE45 standard at a high temperature.
CI - continuous improvement. Making life easier. How is the rev limiter range now, at idle, 1850 or higher? More items to check off from Jes' list: exhaust heat, exhaust rattle, full speed heat monitoring. Yours: grease nipple size, relocate the filters and build a fuel/oil storage cabinet. Has the radar map overlays been resolved or still troubleshooting?
The other problem you can get with overfull engine oil is the crankshaft can actually hit the oil collected in the sump. That can areate the oil which greatly reduces its lubricity, and it robs power. Its not so much hydraulic lock as itll just blow out crankcase fill plugs and seals.
Thanks, It will be a ton of work as every join needs to welded double continuous (both sides no gaps) and needs to be built in two half's due to the material size constraints
Just a thought, but to deal with the issue of the genset oil filter dumping oil, have you considered a oil filter relocation kit? You could move the oil filter to the same bracket as the fuel filters.
Can you hot glue a big chunk of closed cell foam to that very expensive drone? At least you'll be able to recover it without making a contribution to Davy Jones' collection!
Hi Guy's, on a totally different topic, I am curious and wondering, with Australian Biosecurity laws how have you set up a plan to take the ships most important member with you out of Australian waters, I know back in 96 my Canadian ex wanted to bring her cat and dog to Western Australia and not only the cost of quarantine fees and the time in QT was a huge inconvenience, but as you can imagine the effects on the animals. How are you dealing with the interest from customs even taking puss outside Australian waters and turning around and coming home surely safeguards to Australia let alone other countries will come into play. I could imagine if she got loose in antartica the perceived risks involved to the wildlife would not be taken lightly by the authorities. Tony from Rural Western Australia 🇦🇺🦘 ×× PS I am a big cat lover more concerned about your cats well being **
Hi Tony, once we leave Aussie we won’t be back. Most of the countries we plan to head to count seatime crossing on the boat as quarantine. And we will also limit where we go if their laws prevent us going in without putting her through too much. We won’t be sending her off boat for quarantine
Something i learned from Marty T (Kiwi YTer) is always clean the threads on new oil filters, he alway gets bits of swarf out of them.
Love Marty T!
Huh. Did not know that
Dam beat me to it lol

Thanks I’ll add this. Cheers

Actually did this but forgot to video it
Good advice.
I also shut off start battery switches whenever I’m doing oil changes also.
This episode took me way back to when I used to service my car. Good old bit of nostalgia.

Recommend that when you change any filter take a Magic Marker and write the number of hours as well as the date on any new filter. .Quick reference

The radar is still playing up and we are wondering if our digital compass is dead

That’s a sweet design for fluid storage.

Yeah. Fair point
We just left Gladstone and sailed past you guys!
Enjoy the sail!
You can get an oil jug, it's a jug with a spout
See if you can attach floats to that drone, maybe something attached to the undeside of the arms.

I haven’t but that would definitely work well
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
There’s a little project for you guys, make your own funnel 😀
Not bad for a first run. How much oil did the genset ultimately take?
7.0L turns out this very specific mining spec genset has a high capacity sump
Hi, how long are you tied up in Gladstone? I'm coming that way. Kiwi Sam
Will be here for new years so we can access parts before moving on
Howdy from the US. My wife and have been watching since near the beginning. Great to see you in the water! What CAD program do you use?
Normally we use fusion 360
500 liters of used oil... Yikes. That tank is likely required to be registered with the govt.

Thats actually a briliant idea to save it from sinking! Love it
You better hope Jess does not see you using her measuring cup for oil changes.......Oh wait, she edits the videos......Your screwed! 8^)
put an absorbent pad under the shaft
