I've been away from iPad stuff for many years, but now that I got the new iPad Pro, I'm wondering if this AUM app lets you assign different MIDI channels to each Synth? Say, for something like a Hardware Sequencer that I have that can sequence on 4 Tracks, and I want to assign each track to a different synth on the iPad?
I love this demo Doug. It inspired me to buy AUM and use it for live performance with various synths and my SL88. And for a few months it worked really, really well. I am running an IPAD Mini 4 and have never gotten over 55% DSP or CPU usage running 4 synths and AUM DUB. But I recently purchase Kauldron and Zeeon and as soon as I started using those with AUM, I noticed random crashing. Then it started getting more frequent and worse. Kauldron is definitely a culprit, which is why I bought Zeeon on the app developer's recommendation. But now it too has started crashing. And it's happened in the middle of gigs! It actually crashed and reset the IPAD twice. Embarassing. It's gotten to the point that I'm actually afraid to use AUM on stage. I am investing in SampleTank and hoping I can replicate what I had going within that app using its built in mixer. Anybody else experiencing crashes with AUM?
Zeeon is the culprit there, not AUM (in my opinion). The reason I think this: I’m on a brand new iPad Pro with gobs of storage, all up to date (the obvious stuff) and Zeeon is one of the very few apps I see crashes with CONSTANTLY. Not just in AUM. Everywhere. Frustrating when these devs put all that time and effort into dialing in these killer apps but they don’t run properly. Good luck! I’d definitely recommend checking out Bram Bos (developer). One of the few with a lot of top quality apps that consistently run without issue under all conditions and combos, even on older iPads.
Simon Dg Yes, it can, it can do layers and splits at the same time, here is a video I made about six months ago showing you exactly how to do it ruclips.net/video/SXPOQEApf90/видео.html
Do you by chance have an AU plugin for ipad which is a midi sequencer ? Im looking for one with similar functionality to the Akai line of midi sequencers or even better the Elektron sequencer.
Why not just add the three synths into Cubasis as instruments? That way you save on DSP and simplify things? They can still run as multi timbal synths if you arm them. I’m thinking that you like the one interface for all 3synths type setup as opposed to opening up numerous windows?
Get a monitoring app. The DSP meter doesn't measure your CPU usage so I have noticed it starts crashing plugged into a keyboard and if I am running 4 synths plus an App. It is more stable with some apps than others. It crashes constanly with EchoPad, and now increasingly with Kauldron
Used AUM last night in live Worship, pretty stable running Korg Module for piano + [ iWavestation + SunrizerXS ] for pads and a lot of addional fx busses with AUM's own filters + Crystalline Shimmer + EOS reverb. Very powerful, close to Mainstage. What I'm not able to run in AUM what I could do in AudioBus 3 (but also to a limit) is Moog Module15's arpeggiator along with other synths as it runs to high on CPU, so I might need to buy another iPad just for Moog and sync with LINK
Im not a fan of apple or their products because of the way they treat customers. They design the phones especially so that as soon as a new one comes out and updates the OS the previous models start acting like a piece of junk they intentionally charge a fortune for even minor repairs in order to dissuade people from repair and instead to a new buy. They insist on removing any of the connectivity ports which would make it easier to use with other brands and insist that its really what the customer wants. Despite all that and more Im very interested in buying the new ipad air because of all the fantastic au plugins. For a live performer such as my self many of those plugins could be extraordinarily useful. Also I saw that my deepmind 12 can be controlled from an ipad app. Also I think there are controllers for it which would allow me to control them usingtje link feature in my ableton push 2.
Danielle Scribbins I think you are totally wrong about Apple. For the professional apple is king. I have an iPhone 6s which is over 3 years old but works like a charm updates and all. The iPad Pro is the best mobile device ever. I can load 6 or 7 synthesizer in the AUM app and still don't use half of my cpu. Get a ipad Pro and you are the man with a mobile studio and live performer.
Nothing's better than an iPad pro 13", it's a bona fide professional-quality music instrument, with apps such as these. Rant all you want about 'evil' Apple, but there is no other way to go if you want reliable and robust portable music/instrument software.
Whilst the presenter knows what he is showing, his presentation was difficult to follow. There is no flow in the presentation making it difficult to follow. Any good presentation should be outlined on a note pad, possible even scripted so listener doesn't loose focus from start to finish.
This is why I got the integra 7, I knew it would be useful for this type of thing!
This is super awesome! I thought this was only possible with Audiobus. Thanks Doug for your endless contributions to IOS musicians !
Incredible demo! This is a really end-to-end tutorial on how to make music on the iPad.
Thank you for that clear and simple demo.
You Doug Woods, are a legend, cheers mate.
Excellent demo on recording basics in iOS!!! Thank you.
Wow that synthscraper app is really cool!
Absolutely brilliant! Thanks for such a clear explanation, mate :)
3:13 really cracked me up for some odd reason. Just the pause before saying anything... so relatable. Which one of these things is hot?! Lmao 😂

The SoundTestRoom does not seem to read comments and reply....
So cool! Thank you! Could you make a video showing midi learn, especially to the volume faders?

Hey buddy have you started using sample Tank? How is it?

Just solved another routing question I had in AUM - THANKS, Doug! 😁 🙏
Thank You!!! I learned so much from this great tutorial 👍😀
Absolutely awesome!
I really like AUM. I use it much much more than audiobus. Very stable never let me down.
I would like to know if with AUM I can divide the keyboard for each instrument. Thank you
Simon Dg Yes, it can, it can do layers and splits at the same time, here is a video I made about six months ago showing you exactly how to do it

Blessings !!! you are a great Teacher
This was so insightful - thanks so much for sharing :)
so witch ne is better, audiobus or aum? whats the diference between them? witch woud yu recmend to layer many apps for live perfrmances?
would it also work to build a binaural synth?
could i split they keyboard on aum .....like zones
no
Why High Quality Off?
Cool vid

BeatHawk by UVI is an AUv3 now
thesoundtestroom thanks.
How do you save the presets for each synth so you can recall them later calling up the correct presets?
MidiSTEPs is a great AU 4 track sequencer ... up 64 notes per track ... each track can control a separate MIDI channel (up to 4 different synths).

Now, this was the whole point. Do something like this without a DAW, to be more flexible. Understood?
What about this CPU usage? How long til it crack everything?
This is running good on an Air 2, but I don’t reckon I could push it much harder without it cracking up

Could you do this entirely in Cubasis 2?
I have the same question. Is it possible to root al these 3 apps through Cubasis?

Andre Venter can you tell me is that the midi link sync app? Can it link 2 ipads together? Thanks
Andre, can you tell me how fast AUM change presets for a live performance? Thank you.
Please show how things are wired up. USB hub? Powered or unpowered ect. Different midi channels. Start with step one please.
It STILL CRASHES MY IPAD PRO . PEACE Christo

Danielle Scribbins Get the latest iPad 2017 model. It's like an iPad Air 2 but slightly more powerful and cheaper
